It doesn't. I think it's real because they also said it's a prequel, and it seems like they were correct.
Anyone could guess that based on the date the original game was set at. You only had a couple years before modernization REALLY kicked in.

Only problem with the prequel idea is that I thought the voice actor for Marston wasn't interested in doing anymore videogame work? I thought that was part of the Polygon interview with him years ago, or am I mistaken about that?
Also, it's a damn shame that the guy who played Landon Ricketts died because I would have loved to see that story weave into this one in slight ways, if it is a prequel.
Also, remember Rockstar's penchant for prequels, which aren't always directly sequential with the other stories. Technically Vice CIty and San Andreas are prequels to GTAIII, but they're also self-contained stories that don't directly lead into the game they're preceding.
nobody knows what's happening.
Well, yeah, they were barely characters because they weren't made to beIt would be a weird tease. Some of the gang were barely characters (and IIRC we didn't meet 7 of them, at least that had names). If they were just teasing a new version, there's little reason to focus on anyone but John.
Well I wasn't implying it'd be impossible, but I think people would be disappointed if Marston were voiced by someone else, unless he was a less significant character. But wh oknows maybe Rockstar threw a bucket of money at the voice actor, too.

Are people serious with the 2017 release predictions lol
I'm expecting 2018 at the earliest, maybe 2019.
SHITSHITSHITSHIT!!!! it's happeniningGG!!!1
I hope they bring this back as dlc again. Would love to see how current gen tackles RDR with zombies.

You could have a new character from Dutch's gang and tell a new story. Marston could be a support character.
That's pretty much how Rockstar operates. They don't reveal stuff until they are confident in a release date that is generally less than a year out. Note that this doesn't account for delays, but a 2017 initial release date wouldn't be surprising.
Remastered RDR this year. New RDR next year

i think i read Redemption started in 2005.

RDR2 started in 2005. It released in 2010.
We've known about this game forever. They've likely been working on it for 4-5 years.
rockstar doing singleplayer dlc? don't make me laugh.
LolRemastered RDR this year.

How does that stop them from being fleshed-out characters in this?
Red Dead: Sunset also includes Red Dead Online
Yay or Nay?
I'm not sure what I expect but GTAs online have done them really well wallet wise, think they'll do the same here kinda?
A direct prequel with the same cast of characters built from the ground up as a primarily multiplayer game sounds like every nightmare I've ever had about a RDR sequel.
Ah, my bad, missed that contextI didn't suggest that.
The person I quoted was suggesting the image was for a PC version of the first game. Which makes no sense because teasing the gang to tease a remaster, especially when most of the characters were barely anything worth remembering.

GTA V was announced around this time in 2011 with an initial release date of May 2013, which was then changed to September 2013.
Even Red Dead Redemption was announced in Feb 2009 and released in May 2010, a 15 month turn around.
This will be a 2018 title almost assuredly.
Take Two's stock price is up 6% today, very likely due to this.
Crazy how much Take Two owes to Rockstar.

I want to play as Dutch. He seemed like a true badass, they don't make men like him no more!
And Abigail, will the story just shift to different missions with so many characters? This is going to be amazing!
Yep. A direct sequel would basically have been a really early GTA.
Red Dead online is a definite.
GTA online has made them millions and Red Dead will do the same.
The pessimistic side of me thinks there's a good chance this will be primarily a multiplayer/MMO-lite kind of game that you can "technically" play single player (but you're gonna have a bad time). Gotta rake in those Stallion Card(TM) microtransactions, baybeeeeeee.Red Dead: Sunset also includes Red Dead Online

Times have changed, shorter cycles from announcement to release are preferable now.
