EA's Patrick Soderlund said:
Its not misleading since they are just leaving it ambiguous by not showing any button prompts at all, rather than slapping on the PS4 button prompts and pass them off as PS4 gameplay.
Well I've tweeted this thread to @PlayStation @Yosp @EA @BioWare asking if they could clear it up.
Anyone I'm missing?
PS4 button prompts ≠ PS4 gameplay
@realDonaldTrump
We need to get the big dogs involved to clear up this mess.

What is there to clear up?Well I've tweeted this thread to @PlayStation @Yosp @EA @BioWare asking if they could clear it up.

Come on now, you know that's what the majority of people are going to think. Why do it in the first place if so?
I mean, yeah, you can make fun of me if it makes you feel better. But this kind of stuff has always erked me. But F me for trying to make a change right? I guess I should know my place.

If the demo really was running on Xbox One X-like hardware, then this trailer is not representative of the product on Playstation.

I bet some EA intern wanted to head into the weekend early: "Nah, we don't have to record the demo again, just slap over some button-prompts - no one will ever notice! And gimme a beer."
What is there to clear up?
I've submitted a trailer to Sony before. All videos must have PlayStation prompts/buttons. If not, it's rejected. EA overlaid buttons on top of existing buttons. Many studios do this. Sony didn't catch the mess up. Again, this has happened before. Microsoft has the same policy.
Soooo what is there to discuss really? Unless you think it's misleading to use game footage not on a PS system as advertising for a game. In which case, every single multi platform game is guilty of this.
I'm very curious as to why this thread is 10 pages(!) long but I'm scared to find out.

This would actually be an interesting subject to talk about if enough people could set their fanboyism aside.
If this is something that consumers in general really aren't aware of, then consumers are in fact being duped. No matter who does it. This is called false advertisement.
I think being more honest with footage across platforms is something that the industry could strive for and it would be for the better. Even at E3 with footage being shown on PC's with console power targets. I mean, there is a reason "downgrade" is a meme. I realize that console targeted PC footage is not the only reason that downgrades happen but I can't imagine it isn't part of it. Before you say I'm being too harsh, I'd like to say that I do see things starting to change.
I don't think it's a bad thing for consumers to push for more honesty. We know that companies like to play it fast and loose if we let them. I think things are changing for the better little by little because we do throw a stink every now and then. If we didn't, then what reason would they have to change?

"
Because they don't want (and/or can't because of legal reasons) show competing hardwares button prompts... Quite obvious, I think.
Then have a different trailer made. These companies have the money not to mention the craploads they stand to make from this or any other AAA game. It's you who is being sold something and it is on them to be honest about it.
Dude, I'm not assuming anything,
Most of the time this is true and as I've been saying, I think this should be stated when footage is used to advertise.
However, I believe it has been confirmed that it was running on a 1X.
Unless this was proven false?

To be clear, the platform holders do have guidelines for media submitted to them, and one of those guidelines is about showing platform appropriate button prompts.
Sony and MS are not the ones who would have made this edit.
No platform holder has those standards. Media captured is supposed to be indicative of expected preformance, but Sony, MS, and Nintendo don't have the time, energy, or inclination to police the specs of the computers third parties are capturing from, especially for products this far out.
I don't think ea wants to spend the extra money. Go cry to them about it.

Oh, no, you didn't hurt my feelings.I'm so sorry if I hurt you with my pro consumer views.
Did you see my post from the other page?

EDIT: I just realized I butchered the quote on that lol. That was digital Foundry quoting Patrick. So a quote within a quote. It was confusing.

It's a shitty practice and somethinig needs to be done about it, but if the goverment or something isn't interveining, they will keep on going, especially since the majority of people won't care anyway.
Only in extreme instances it becomes a problem, such as Watch_Dogs. To me, I am always suspect to multi platform games, because those end up looking different on the platforms, first party has been pretty close or even better most of the time.

You must be very unfamiliar with how this works. Many people here are not advocating anti-consumer practices, but we're talking about a title at least a year or more from being in final stages of polish. It is not yet completed, on all platforms. Then have a different trailer made. These companies have the money not to mention the craploads they stand to make from this or any other AAA game. It's you who is being sold something and it is on them to be honest about it.
Are you actually suggesting that companies should reshoot a trailer for each SKU the game will release on?
Are you serious?
All the more reason for core gamers to take a stand against this.

To create a stage demo like this, you take a build from the development platform either furthest along or most stable, then have a separate project to piece together the unfinished systems and internally QA the demo that will be recorded or played back on specific development kits (in this case, X1X SDK).
They can't simply "do another trailer" but there is no guarantee all three platforms are anywhere at the same place, let alone the amount of work to recreate the same stage-demo would impact the development of the title as a whole.
Also, to those suggesting having a message in the corner saying "also coming to PS4", we're talking about competing game companies. What makes you think Sony want to have Xbox buttons in the trailers on their official YouTube channel, or Microsoft having PlayStation buttons for that matter? They have specific branding requirements and EA's trailer that is sent to each platform must adhere to these, such as not having competitor's platform listed at the end of the "PS" version of the trailer.
Absolutely.
These giant AAA studios absolutely have the resources to do so.
As I understand by Matt. Pretty much every multiplat game is PC lead anyway. So IMO if companies really must advertise the same exact trailer for their platform then it would make doing a trailer and scaling it to whatever console target easier. Just say it's running on PC with x console target spec.
I don't think these companies absolutely have to have the same exact trailer for their advertising material though.
If it is difficult to do now it wouldn't be for long. If it did become commonplace to do, undoubtedly the process would become streamlined and cost's and time to make would go down.
This entire thread deserves countless drivebys like "who cares". This is literally the least important stuff ever and it has 500 posts already.
You can apologize all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it is how development works. I've been a part of this process, including E3 builds / QA.I'm sorry but I'm confident that they are smart enough to sort out a way to do this that isn't duping consumers.
Yes, let's streamline making the same trailer 3/4 times over after we uneccessarily unstreamlined the whole process for ourselves because a few wallflowers on the internet got their panties in a twist over something that wasn't a big deal in the first place.
Makes sense.
it seems the ones who are upset are xbonexers who believe they own the anthem trailer.Yes, let's streamline making the same trailer 3/4 times over after we uneccessarily unstreamlined the whole process for ourselves because a few wallflowers on the internet got their panties in a twist over something that wasn't a big deal in the first place.

The irony is that the one situation that didn't tried to misled is the one that was shunned.Because it is not the same thing.
If it isn't a big deal to you then why are you here? To defend these companies? To make fun of those who would advocate for more consumer friendly practices?
Because this is an objectively anti consumer move. The only one's it benefits are the companies.
And again, I've personally always seen this as an issue. It's always something that has bugged me.
