The first public E3 looks like absolute INSANITY

They need to have public days or be more stingy about people's credentials to get in. Jesus its so packed. Thankfully my company gives us access to the press area where they keep food, water and drinks.

I'm curious about the credentials. What were they for this year?

This was my 10th year at E3 and I went 1 day and never went back because the crowds were so fucking terrible it ruined it. Prior to this year the crowds were already at a breaking point, 4-5 hour lines to play a game etc.. Adding to this by opening it to the public was a disaster and a complete mistake.

They need to revert to this being a closed press event.

Well im a dev but people can get in by being a youtuber/influencer now which probably brought in even more people than just the public that was allowed to buy tickets. In the past Gamestop employees were the one's people questioned if they should be allowed to attend. Im not saying they shouldn't allow certain groups in but E3 in general has always been super lax with how you qualify to be allowed in.

They really need to go back to doing Devs and Press or do separate events.

The only reasons I went to E3 this year is because I already live here and I've always wanted to go. I don't know if it's worth it if I had to fly over here and get a hotel/air bnb. Also, Sony needs a much bigger booth to allow for lines because they have a horrible app that you need to rsvp that hardly works.

Other than a few games, I've actually been able to play almost everything I wanted to. It does take some luck with timing and you have to show up with a game plan.

Personally, I think they should be a little more stingy for those allowed, and have public tickets down to maybe 5000 or less priced a little higher. I saw the public ticket price and I thought that was cheap for an event that big, or even a public event as you suggested.

Gamestop employees though? Even with public tickets available, I don't think they should be granted access. Especially with how easy it is to get a job there and how horribly they treat their employees from what I've heard.

I'm glad I got to go before it went totally nutso. Should be interesting to see what changes come next year, along with whether or not E3 just becomes another stop on the hype train as opposed to the grand destination.

E3 had opened itself up to the masses several times before, and it's always highlighted the need for the show to be exclusive.

It's a business show. Entrance should be restricted to industry professionals, retailers, business peoples, and the press.

I've been living close to where they do Gamescom and it's stuff like this why I will never bother to go.

Standing in line for hours so I can enter an extremely crowded place to again stand in line for hours to play an unreleased game for 10 minutes.

No thx

My gf asked me the other day while I was watching the conferences:
"Would you like to attend E3 some day?"
To which I replied "Nope!"

After seeing those pictures I will change my reply to "Fuck no"

I went to Gamescom a few times (years ago) and it's always kinda sucked. It's always so insanely crowded it just sucks all the fun out of everything. I hate crowds as it is so we pretty much just sat outside and drank beer all day long. Fun times, but bad times for games.

Of course E3 was gonna be like this, I'm always excited for E3 and its announcements, but actually going there? I would pay to not go.

First E3 where I only did Day 1 and left. It was absurd this year. The Nintendo booth was literally stopped full of people not moving because there were 7+ people each in queue for Super Mario Odyssey. The PlayStation booth had a phone app RSVP system for Battlefront II and COD WWII. Now you need to RSVP to get in line?? And the Xbox booth had the most narrow aisles of all with people crammed in the main alley just trying to get through.

This show just doesn't work right now because people can't get anything done. There absolutely needs to be an industry / press day. Adding 15K consumer tickets with the same booth sizes doesn't help anyone. People who have to work can't and people who paid to play games are also left to wait all day long.

This is also the convention where having a media pass doesn't matter. It doesn't mean you'll get an appointment, it doesn't mean you can go a press conference, it means you might get a sandwich at the press room if you make it in time.

Went yesterday, got in at about 1pm and it wasn't the sea of people nightmare I kept hearing about on Tuesday. Crowd seemed about normal as the previous 4 years, with the exception of last year which had nothing but new Zelda going for it.

Being industry, it's easy to say to block out game fans as before. But go back to when you were NOT industry and did not get a free badge for 3 day video game xmas every year and wished you could go.

What made me cringe though was seeing a bunch of wannabe media Youtube/Twitch "influencers." This isn't Comic Con -_-'

All that said, wound up playing zero games. Evil Within 2 haunted house thing was awesome and the best times were had outside the convention. =P

The lines although long can be got through and it's a ton of fun with the atmosphere and people. I showed up about 30 minutes late when most of the crowd had dissipated throughout the building so I had no issues getting in or around.

I've been in the Bethesda VR line since the doors opened. Pushing to 3 hours now..... Probably another 30- 40 minutes to go. This has been the slowest line I've been in all show. Totally not going to be worth it either.

I tried to get in line for Wolfenstein 2 this morning right when the doors opened, but by the time I got there it was already capped off for the day. I’m currently in line for sea of thieves after playing the minecraft pvp demo beforehand. If I didn’t live in Southern California I would be disappointed in the amount of games I played.

Day one
Mario Odyssey
Sonic Mania
Sonic Forces

Day 2
Destiny 2 (pc)
Dragon Ball Fighter Z
Crackdown 2
Forza 7

Day 3
Minecraft
Sea of Theives (hopefully, still in line)

I'll sound like an elitist saying this maybe, but this year's show just felt terrible.

It was like they transplanted the typical PAX crowd into a show that just isn't geared towards average consumers at all. Just a really awful time all around for everyone involved.

That's my beijing experience in a nutshell (especially at tianAnMen)

The year of the Wii release, the line to play Wii was capped at roughly 6 hours, just 30 minutes after opening. And that didn’t involve the public.

I expected much worse. It didn't feel much different than past years, other than lines for the games was probably 2-3x longer than normal, which I could care less about. The bar was wide open, so all was well with the world.

Ha. I did the same thing. I took two days off, but after yesterday I said fuck it.

It's not just the crowds, but it's also booths like Sony where everything is scheduled so if you don't get a time booked, you don't even have the option to wait in a line to play.

Oh, whoever designed the Xbox booth layout needs a new job. It was terrible for the amount of people they packed in there and had absolutely no flow. It was like the casino floor at the Bellagio if you replace the slots with demo stations.

Dedicate a day for Media, and the other two for everyone.

Dedicating all days for public is STUPID.
As someone who is responsible for lining up media appointments for E3, one day is not enough time for media appointments. I work with a fairly small studio and we were essentially booked back to back at both our booth and suite for 3 straight days this year.

That is just crazy.

This is the biggest problem in my eyes. The booths are not designed well to accommodate anyone. The Xbox area is just a big mess. Sony's app thing sucks badly as well. Nintendo was a mess on Tuesday, but yesterday and today they've utilized the back area behind their booth to form lines. Now their area actually is running properly. I feel like each company needs that extra space to to hide the lines away.

Man this looks like a mess. I went to PAX South a few years back and I really can't see the appeal of these shows. Lines are too long to play anything you really want and then they just cut you off if you really really want to wait.

Panels fill up quick, lines are around the corner, people can't think about those around you and stink, pushing and shoving.

I remember ending up just sitting down most of the time because t was a mess if I didn't do what I wanted in the first hours or two.

Here's to hopes that there are separate lines made in future E3 events if this is going to become the norm. Don't get me wrong, it is great that the public gets to join in, but it only adds to the chaos when you have some there just for fun while others are there to do their job.

It's a shame the same people that stink showed up to E3 now. PAX stench is something else, and I never remembered anything near like that while at E3 before.

They should do a media day, and then the other 2 days have separate tickets to encourage people to thin out into the separate public days, if they're going to keep this up.

Also have a shower and soap onsite.

Would never do this if I didn't live in the area, and even then i probably wouldn't go. I can't imagine standing in line for hours just to play an unreleased game for 10 minutes; my time is more valuable than that. E3 should really just be for press and industry professionals because public crowds ruining everything. Worst case scenario use a lottery system and limit public participation to 500 or so.

Worst E3 for me (it's the fifth time in a row I got to go), press media has the same rights as the public, I did not get to touch a single game in public areas, only in private appointements...

Appointements are limited, I'm the only guy from Gamersyde there so I can't be everywhere.

Filming games was awful, too much people, can't get a clear shot of the screen.

I can't waste my time doing lines.

And to waste even more time they don't allow press to eat in the press room (even if some hide their food in bags and then eat), I had to eat sitting in the hallway with dozens of other media guys, while I could have been eating while encoding videos from the press room (PC was in a locker in the press room, I wasn't even allowed to get it without abandoning food).

What a joke.

If there's no press only day next year, I'm out.

2nd day traffic wasn't too bad, as usual the 3rd day was pretty breezy... even the Nintendo booth wasn't as intense

But yeah, a press only day or press ques would be a good idea

Tuesday was a nightmare. So many people.

Wednesday was MUCH better. I don't know if everyone just gave up after day 1 or what, but it was very much the normal E3 experience.

I didn't go back today so I'm not sure how it was.

The last couple of E3's were really barren in a ton of the non-Nintendo areas. I feel like if they fix some space logistics, they should be fine to do this again next year. Growing pains and all.
