Discord is a like an interim place, people went to and stayed before moving on to the new boards. It was where smaller community managers managed the groups, their expectations, provided updates, verified people etc.

The hate part I don't agree with. This war between both sides is pointless and will only create more tension in the long run. There are many wonderful members of this community that will only be on RE, and I respect that. I don't favor one of the other, as I feel both will thrive in their own way, but these random drive-by shit posts from the guy you originally quoted aren't needed and benefit no one.

I mean there is definitely a certain excitement with the new forum, but at the same time a big part of that is the recreartion of a lot of the communities that existed here. Unless someone gets to work rebuilding those communities it's not going to change much in the discrepancy of activity.

Question: I noticed your posts in this thread before and others before you. Why did you register for the new site?
The mod list was leaked way, way back. The most liberal posters, the ones supposedly cruifying others here have moved there. The mods will mostly be the same posters there too. Anti-trump threads, I assume will be common. PoliGAF is there.
I'm genuinely curious. Not trying to blame you or anyone else. And I'm asking on good faith here. Not my intention to corner you or anything.
If the site is too restrictive why join up? Doesn't it put you back in that silent, no posting mentality?

Essentially the only people who joined were the ones from discord. And vetted ones at that. Sure, honeymoon period. But it'll get even bigger and more active once registration actually opens up for real.

Alerts when someone quotes your post
You can @ mention someone's name in your post to draw their attention to that post
You can go straight into editing a post in topic view by simply double clicking on the post
Spoiler tags can display a note describing the nature of the spoiler
Drag and drop images into your post from anywhere
There's also highlight quoting for quickly quoting a specific part of a post and a report button

Rebuilding them will be hard. But users come and go all the time. If this place can evolve and people like it, those community threads will be back, the forum will be back, if people hate what it changes to then it'll die, but I been here long enough to see HUNDREDS of "known names" come and go, "celebrity" posters and their fan bases only last so long.

Yeah. It will definitely have a new identity. I don't think it'll be a ghost town, but the vibes will be different. Depending on how things play out, Evilore may just decide to shutter it.

Well I never said I wouldn't join. I like to go where the gaming community is. I figure it can't hurt to be on both. I just want to talk games most of the time. I just get annoyed with the whole this site vs that site thing. Either pick a side or join both. No need to shitpost on one to leave. Just go and leave the rest in peace. I also run a gaming channel and website with a friend and just like to be active with the gaming community in some way. GAF was always great to learn new things, talk with cool people, etc.
I'm not really political, myself, and avoided those political threads for the most part and would lurk in the social issue threads. These were all shitshows and I could just see the madness without even posting. It might happen over there, too. But most of my time is spent browsing Gaming. These last few days are a little different because I'll be honest, I feel I can post more freely now without the risk of getting jumped.
I've also never been banned so I guess my strategies to posting have succeeded.
GAF has a strict policy to joining too. I assume the invite only thing is only temporary otherwise I don't see it growing like GAF did

Either way, I hope both platforms decide to treat mods, celebrity posters, users and lurkers equally. Putting one above the other and supporting personal agendas is something that needs to stop. Also talking juniors down just because they are new or not active posters is a disgusting behaviour that needs to stop. Keep that in check and everyone will have a wonderful time.
That being said, I didn't like how some members went out here. Knowing there are at the new place doesn't give me much hope, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I also wonder what's the total audience for video game centered forums. GAF definitely took a huge chunk and many are going to the other forum.
But growth wise, I'd wager YT, Twitch, and Social media eating a big chunk of the youngins. Old GAF skewed rather old in terms of internet age.

I look at the generality of users posting on here, and there are very few names I recognise, the glue is mostly all gone. Unless infrequent users start becoming frequent users, it is dead.
It's not nicely written at all. Telling minorites they "abadoned ship" when they were basically told to piss off indirectly is really rude.

I'm thinking that is likely. It already feels like it's becoming a ghost town. Many parts of the site are starting to feel like a dying board for a game on Gamefaqs.
About a year ago today, the board was super active as the election approached. GAF was among the Top 5 internet sites that referred to Clinton election website. We even joked that r/the_donald would be imploding soon. Now it appears GAF is imploding.
Kind of sad to see what has happened.

That being said, I don't know exactly what you are trying to say so I hope you can follow up with specifics, but either way that's something one should except, since treatment of mods here seemed to be a big problem for regular members as it seems.
