Yeah, the first solution of disabling my laptops main display driver and re-enabling it worked a treat.
The amusing thing here is that the game isn't the issue - but Rockstar's Social Club Launcher, that fails to start. As soon as you pass that, things are golden.
Pretty much! After a day of downloading, I got a black screen and immediate crash when trying to play the game. I somehow only had 40 gigs in my GTA V folder. Deleted everything, and redownloading. From the slooooooooooooooooowest servers on planet Earth. The game is going to be worth it once it works, but holy shit, why wouldn't they just let me have a Steam key and be done with it if they can't provide a working service?
Hmm saw that shadow play was enabled when the game first crashed (at end of prologue mission - so had to redo entire thing)
Turned shadow play off and it worked without crashing
So not sure if coincidence but perhaps shadow play has an issue...
This was fun.
> Open Social Club page
> Enter CD key into my account
> "Thanks for registering key"
> Start downloading client
> Social Club client starts
> Asks for key again
> Enter key
> "Sorry bro that key is already in use"
> rage
Rockstar Social Club is literally worse than Origin and Uplay combined.
I guess I'll have to torrent the game to actually play it.
I had the same issue. When downloader starts, look for popup which shows what account is logged in. My problem was that I activated the game on new account, but my pc had old account info stored on it and the downloader automatically logged into it.
The only way to log out that I found is to change the password of your old account in rsc website. Stupid.
PC gaming at it's finest.
Oh you should see my Twitter/Facebook crusade.Damn people, I hope you get these issues fixed soon. I would rage so much.
Posting again (don't know if double posting is allowed, whatever) and I think I have a fix for GTAVLauncher issues.
It involves Devices and Printers. If there are conflicting items, the launcher will crash trying to load multiple devices. Depending on the device, simply unplugging it won't alleviate the issue, you have to right click and remove it manually.
Even better, they made UTF-8 to supplant Unicode specifically so they wouldn't have to bother about accentuated characters at all (because it behaves just like ASCII as far as americans are concerned).Murica don't give no damn about UTF-8 being a standard
It's funny how easy it is to derail a thread with well aimed shitpost
Yet pc enthusiasts swear pc gaming is no fuss... Shiiit I'd be throwing shit if i couldn't just pop my game in and play it...error that.. Driver this.. Fuck that.
read the tone of the thread, cmon. this is the last thing people want to read when they've just spent money on a product that doesn't workI don't see much dancing in the OT thread to be honest. I see a bunch of performance issue posts all over the place.
Really, if anyone thinks PC gaming is the end all be all, just go to ANY new game OT thread and witness the torrent of performance issue posts to see its as much a hassle now ( ok maybe not AS MUCH ) as it always has been.
And god help you if you are a framerate anal PC gamer. Where everything has to be silky smooth at all times.
you magnificent bastard, for fuck sake. this worked, i'd ruled out Comodo almost immediately because I'd disabled it, funnily enough Windows firewall had a fit when I got GTAV to run, i guess firewalls don't like this game.I've fixed my BEX64 problem by uninstalling Comodo Firewall. Even adding the launcher to my trusted applications wouldn't help. Only uninstalling did the trick for me.

thanks a lot mate
Mine`s better: I can't even download the game. I get stuck on a load message in the launcher app after logging in.
This is the very same thing that happened to me, as i told in an earlier post i found a workaround that works wonders, have you tried the list of steps in my OP?
I had some peculiar issues with my game crashing continuously at the same point during the prologue. Turns out after a bit of research that over half of my RSC downloaded preload files were corrupt.
Follow this guide after downloading this program which runs a hash check on your GTAV files and compares them to a working games files, similar to how Steam does game cache integrity checks. The program is in German, but it's easy enough to understand for everyone.
After deleting my corrupt files most of the redownloaded files were OK, though even now I'm still redownloading some files that failed to verify even after 3 rechecks. Not ideal when I have a restrictive data cap for my internet.
Never downloading from RSC ever again. If you have a large amount of data to redownload after the check, go the safe option and just download the files from a working torrent. It's downright bizarre to resort to this as a safe measure but it's better than slowly redownloading the same few GBs that just won't ever download properly.
This may also solve the launcher issues, which I personally never encountered.

This worked for me too! Thanks! I kept trying to play around with my antivirus but didn't think of completely uninstalling my firewall.
Side note, might help some people, not sure if it helped me or not. I think it might become a problem as soon as patching is done. GTA still keeps creating a Local<chinese-characters> file in AppData for me even though I have only allowed characters in my username. Creating a new user didn't help. What did, however, was setting my keyboard language from Finnish to English before creating the new user. No more strange files after that on the new user.

To prevent that kind of problems, network admins do not asign account names with special characters, because somewhere a program will show some gibberish instead of áèîøü
So I would say this is an overlook on their test plan and the lack of windows testing experience.
It'll be obvious: your computer will tell you. For other crashes, I'd follow the advice in MrJustinius's post above to see if any downloaded files are corrupt. How does one know the game crashed because of a memory leak? My game still keeps crashing and I just really wanna fix the problem and play the game...
Seems like I dodged a bullet there. Since I connected my Win8 to my MS account my username is "user@email.com" BUT my personal folders still use my name from Win7 (did an incremental update), which doesn't contain any special characters.
Totally thought this thread was going to be about how you're compelled to stop at all red lights and obey all laws.

Are you on Steam? If so, assuming you live in North America or Europe, your download server is is probably not having a good time. I was downloading for days at <100kpbs and I switched to the Japanese servers and my speed shot up.MY GOD the download speeds. I have a great connection, but it downloads only 80kbps.
I have started the download early in the morning for the whole day. Now it is 10 pm and it downloaded like 40%. How can anybody have this downloaded?
What gives?
Have we even had any acknowledgement from Rockstar about running the launcher with the dedicated GPU issue? Nvidia at least acknowledged it, but I'm not sure whose fault it is exactly, I saw somewhere someone posted a script to disable and re-enable the GPU when loading the launcher, which sounds pretty handy in this situation.
