Oh and regarding the nice escapist article I linked above, there was a discussion that was immediately derailed by someone complaining "and yet there are no black people", to which someone wrote a very nice and detailed reply, figured it was interesting:

Oh for the love of..

I'll speak here as a Pole AND a former employee of CD Projekt (disclaimer - I was the logistics guy in Polish distribution branch of the company, not part of the creative team behind The Witcher 3) - I'm sick and tired of all those ethnic debacles about this game.

CDPR is a Polish company, yes, but right now it's pretty much a multi-culture team. The Executive producer for this game is an American from Georgia state. They have a team of people from all around the world, including black people (from France) and Asian (Filipino). And those are just people I personally met there, there's probably more, if you'll dig into the subject. Heck, their next big project, Cyberpunk 2077, is created in close association with the original Cyberpunk RPG creator - Mike Pondsmith, who is black. The team is pretty much aware of different ethnic backgrounds, thank you were much. As for us, Poles ourselves - yes, our country is like 99% white people. No, that does not mean, we are not aware of other cultures existing.

So... Why there was no black people in Witcher 3? Because it does not fit the lore, God damn it. If someone would actually bother to read the books (although I heard that the English translation is terrible, so that may be at fault here, I don't know), would have caught it immediately. The world of The Witcher series is basically Northern Kingdoms, Skellige Isles, Nilgaard Empire, and Zerrikania. From the west, there is a vast ocean that no one traversed, and no one knows what's there. To the East, there are huge mountain ranges, that people did not traverse to find out what's there. Zerrikania is a desert land, and as far south/east as people ever went. This is this universe land of black people who are living there peacefully and minding their own business. In fact, they are deliberately staying away from from Northeners (ie. white people), because they want to take no part in their crazy power struggles. The only exceptions are pretty much mercenaries, like Tea and Vea - the duo of female Zerrikan bodyguards in the books, or indeed Azar Javed, a Zerrikan sorcerer, one of the main antagonists in The Witcher 1. Even the mercenaries prefer to stay away from the North though during the time of war. The war that we see in The Witcher 3 is actually the 3rd war with Nilfgaard, and during the 2nd one in the books it is stated, that Zerrikans want to have no part in any of the Northener's bloodshed. Also, they would have to either sail through ENTIRE continent west coast to get there (kindly reminder: Skellige pirates does not fuck around), or travel by foot/cart through Nilfgaard, and their borders.

Do you see where I'm getting at? Putting a black person in this particular region of the world, during this time would mean explaining, why the fuck would he/she travel so far north during such dangerous times (Velen/Novigrad is basically THE FRONTLINE of this war), when risk/reward ratio is really bad, while he/she could stay safe in their homeland south. It would be getting out of the way of the lore and common sense of people living in that universe. It could be done, yes. It would be also an unnecessary stretch to fit in there, that would be instantly accused of tokenism, I guarantee it. And no, expectations of some people from USA are not enough to compromise perfectly fine geographical lore of the universe. You don't like it - fine, no one forces you to agree with it. It's a product you can willingly accept to consume or not based on your preferences. THEREFORE please do not force your expectations of racial quotas on other people's products, because not all products are made with you in mind. That's their idea of the game, where black people simply do not fit, due to LOGICAL, GEOGRAPHICAL, LORE reasons, not "Lol, racism, we don't know that black people exist". You are basically expecting Zulu people to travel north and fight in Germany vs Poland war. Please stop that, it's insulting.

Phew... Rant's over. Now go play the game. It really is damn awesome.

One of two locked shacks I believe - had me fooled for quite awhile since you have to advance the story to the Nilfgaardian camp before she becomes available.

Didn't even know that, I guess I visited her after.

Done. Lot of stuff swirling in my head, not sure what to express aside from the fact that this is my favourite game of all time.

Liked my ending.

She is a very lovely lady in a shack west of the main village.

You guys are great! Thank you, I've spent hours running around in circles looking for her. I think I did find her house, there were a lot of plants in the garden but the door was locked.

On a side note, the guy looking for a plough and the deserter from the notice boards, are they quests? They don't appear in my log.

I have only one complaint with the game, the fonts are too small, I can't read the names above peoples heads, and my hud is set to large. It's really annoying.

I think I've decided to use a Dualshock 4 for this with DS4Windows, or at least try it. What do you guys find to be the best button mapping configurations?

If you're talking about the

, don't worry about it. You'll get to give them to her later on in the story

Great article
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/art...-s-Game-World-Offers-An-Abundance-of-Richness

"I think the real measure would be something like "richness". As in: How much unique, interesting, varied, entertaining content does this game have? It's not something you can assign a number to, but it's the concept we're always dancing around when we're trying to quantify the size of a game. Going by this measure, I'd have to say that the Witcher 3 is the largest single-player game I've ever played."

No IIRC that is from after
Kaer Morhen battle, after Vesemir..

Yep, it is. After
watching that trailer I had a feeling Vesemir was gonna die. Only He, Ciri, Yenn, or Triss could get that type of response from Geralt.

Anyone do The Price of Honor quest in Skellige where when going to open up the locked treasure chest, it won't open despite you having the key? I know that I don't need to open the chest to complete the quest but I have the guide and know what's in it and what it means to the person who I started the quest for.

Yeah, I know, it's just a game but I feel bad and want to complete the quest with a slight positive at the end instead of it being all negative.

If anyone else is having this bug/glitch, let me know. I'm playing on PS4, version 1.04.

I can't proceed with this game. For me, it's lost all steam. Combat becomes too easy and the story has lost me (I don't mean confusion).

There's so much to like here, but I hope the next Witcher game is a little more focused. Credit the team for going all out with all things to do and see, but I'm in my 30s and don't have time for something of this length anymore.

I think this truly is a case of "it's not you, it's me."

So, a small thing regarding Yennefer (I'm at skellige)
I'm guessing the books provide some major content regarding her character, because in this, all she is, is unlikable. Game seems to talk about the two being destined for each other while in the meantime making Yennefer as obnoxious as possible. I've done the Djinn quest so I now know why and I do like how your choice in it is handled.

I almost think this is a case of gamers being used to their love interest falling head over heals for them in games and are taken aback by Yennefer not doing so. She's really not that unlikable, honestly. She acts just like about a billion other couples I know. It's especially like a relationship that has gone on for a while... because it has.

She's worse in the books, but that's okay because she isn't there for the reader to fall in love with. It's Geralt's baffling obsession, which doesn't really work in an interactive medium.

You know billions of people who are stuck in an on-and-off (mostly off) "relationship" with unfaithful partners who don't respect them or anything they do? Those poor billions of fools...
Though Yennefer IS head over heals in love with Geralt, her personal quest wouldn't be there if she weren't, she just shows it in her own special way as the reigning queen of Assholeberg.

need help, when i download a dlc quest, how do i activate it, how do i see it?

Check the Tutorials menu it should tell you. AFAIK it offers tips for finding the quests in-game, but I can't remember off hand. I stumbled upon the latest DLC quest by accident on a notice board.

I felt myself getting that way (i'm 32 btw, two kids and a full time job) early on with W3 but:

A: Got up to and past the first real dungeon
I assume the one you escort Keia thru
and the game has sort of FINALLY clicked. This is truly important I believe as the game is pretty damn overwhelming initially (even for someone who has been playing games since he was 4). It has a bit of an unsatisfying gameplay loop early on (unless you just LOOOVE conversations) and, for me, I felt like I would put an hour at a time without having really accomplished anything (only really have like an hour and a half a night to play games)
I honestly feel like I've gotten past this hump now and it feels great.

TL;DR - do more actual quests, DON'T just wander around

B: Made peace with the fact that I WILL be playing this for literally months. A little hear, a little there. I just CANNOT this finish anytime in the forseaable future and I'm honestly okay with that and kinda see if as a long term commitment/challenge. I mean, didn't we use to play RPGs for months when we were kids anyways?

So yeah, I respect but cannot fathom how people have already been able to finish this. It really is a gargantuan magnum opus of a game. Much like I'll be reading thru the series of books (rereading The Last Wish currently) for the long-term, I'll also be working thru the W3. Looking forward to it :)

I just beat the game - got the ending I wanted most judging by the other options. I was happy for a little while until I get placed back into the game immediately after the credits:
I am in Kaer Morhen. The first thing I do is go up the towers to see if Yen and Ciri - as a witcher - are in the castle, but I can't find them. Then I look around some more to see if there are any other characters until I find myself looking over the vista of the valley and realize that I am all alone. All the main characters are gone and the world just seems so empty now. I feel like starting a new game just to see all the characters again.
Anyone else feel this way after the game ended?

There's a lengthy thread on the official forums that complains about the world state after the ending. Personally, I felt it ended well enough

IIRC, CDPR put up a disclaimer that the world state is in limbo after the epilogue, and you won't be able to interact with any major plot characters. The game should've ended after the credits, because it's clear that CDPR did not have the time or thought it was unnecessary to let the player roam a changed world.[

The comics that plays at the epilogue are meant to show how the world has changed and the rest is left up to the player's imaginations.

I asked before but I think it got lost in the shuffle. Is 14 a strong enough level to head over to skellige? Should I stay in Valen in level up a little more?

Yes, you should be fine.
In fact, some quests there are recommended for level 13-17. I'd recommend to finish some quests in Skellige until 17 or 18 then return to Velen/Novigrad.

Skellige armor is neat, but kinda remind of Japanese samurai armor?
So, it's only light armor set DLC left in the future, right? If we're not counting that Nilfgardian armor as armor set (not upgradeable). I wonder what set would it be.

It would probably be a light armour set of some sort. Medium armour has Griffon and Wolf schools. Heavy armour has Bear and now Skellige sets. Light armour is only represented by Feline School Armour.

Oh yeah, that must have been it. I guess I was looking for Mass Effect types of "love interests" and was taken aback by Yen.

Anyway, I disagree, I do find that Yennefer is an unlikable person. Aside from the highly contradictory and condescending behaviour towards people in general, the unending secrecy and her actions during the skellige sections, even indirect conversations about her mostly revolve around how petty or cold (or whatever unpleasant trait you can think of) she is. It's certainly not that I dislike Yen as a character. I do think she's interesting, I just think she's incredibly unlikeable as a person and the game seems to keep hammering on that every chance it gets, starting from the very moment you see her.

I've seen that type of behavior as well, though I don't find that particularly influences my view on her likeability. But again, I'm missing the context behind the whole thing as I haven't read the books.

Yennefer has quite a few beautiful moments that show who she actually is, some spoilers (not ending ones, but it is still better to enjoy them ingame)

1."Adding" a beard to Avallach's painting while Geralt and Ciri were destroying the laboratory
2.Eavesdropping on Ciri while she was talking to Philippa and being super cute about it
3.Complementing Geralt's beard
4.Kissing Geralt with the biggest gratitude for bringing Ciri back
5."I will bring her back" Yen :"I know you will"
6.G:"I thought you would be angry" Y:"Angry? Why? Because you supported Ciri in her decision or because you fought by her side and won?"
7.Actually squealing when Ciri is back
8.Her willingness to break the djinn's course even though she must have been aware of the possible consequences
9. The supercute pun wordfight with Geralt
10. G:'What if we'd lost?' Y:'Then we wouldn't be having this conversation. And the female half of the continent would be drowning in tears'

She is way more fun to interact with than Triss, for me at least. Even in her angry moments :)

Yes, I was talking about the theme of the set actually.
Temeria? Velen? Can't think of anything.

She is way more fun to interact because she has bigger part and more time in the story with Geralt. Triss' part in the game compared to Yen's is nothing and that's kinda disappointing for me.
I do agree with some of your points though, especially number 9. That's my favorite part about Yennefer.

Triss had quite a lot of time in Novigrad, although after finishing her quest she takes a backseat. But you know, she was much less important character in the books and she got two games, so it makes sense CDP wanted to give more time to Yen, finally.

I honestly believe that the majority of the people who played this game think that Triss is Geralt's one and only, since she was his loved one in The Witcher 2 and that you actually had to save her.

She is nothing more than a side sandwich. Yen is his one true love, and this is noticeable throughout the entire game, especially with that lovely Last Wish sidequest.

According to the book, yes.
But the problem is, CDPR is actually showcasing Triss as one of the main romance option for Geralt. They even have Triss good ending ready, right? (cmiiw) That's just not fair for me.
Anyway, I actually picked Yen route and got good ending with her, but not because I chose her. I got the feeling that the game is telling me to choose her.

Anyone know where the expansions lie in terms of the chronology of the game? Take place during the events of the game or after the ending?

I think they will take place during the game, not after the endings. It will be possible to play them after ending though (since the post-ending gameplay takes place before the ending as well).
I sure do wish they would continue chronologically after the ending, if not with these two expansions then at least with some new expansion or fullblown Witcher 4, but we'll see.

Her willingness to break the djinn's course even though she must have been aware of the possible consequences

I felt she did that because she was tired of geralt, she wanted a way out. why else would she want to do it? I understand that she wants to know if their affection is really only based on the djinn, but in the end, if she truly wants to be with geralt, why risk it? it's too big a risk with 0 real payoff.

I was pretty upset by that quest btw. I didn't think it was right for CDPR to change this, it felt like blasphemy to me. of yourse Yen is geralts true love. and in witcher 3, she is the much more interesting character than triss. triss is boring, while yen is extremely cool and funny. however, since triss was established as geralts lover in witcher 2 I was fine with making him choose between then, and of course breaking the djinns curse is necessary for that. so in the end I actually think it was very well done.

Especially with that lovely Last Wish sidequest where she
tricks Geralt into helping her get the magical equivalent of divorce papers.
Lovely.

Ehh, I mean as a strong, independent adult, it's not really all that surprising to see her wanting to know if their love is real or just a result of an arbitrary spell. I mean Geralt literally had that spell cast down on them right? Kind of a weird love going on there. Heck I don't know how my relationship with my wife would be if it were held together by a spell lol. I don't blame her honestly.
