THQ files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, Clearlake enters w/ purchase agreement [OP Update 2]

The ones that are in the development process and can be released relatively soon will get finished and released. Anything in pre-production will likely be halted.

I think tentpole titles like Saints Row 4 will also continue being developed despite being a year or so away from release. Clearlake wouldn't want to damage the value of the IP.

Trading has resumed, stock is down 63% right now

Edit: I think my source for real time quotes, aren't so real time.

Pfft, this never would have happened if they had just made a third Summoner game.
Maybe.
Okay, it probably would have happened even sooner. But goddamn the world would be a better place.

I included a late 2013 release in my head as relatively soon. :lol

But ya, they wouldn't want to halt development of Saints Row 4 if it's already heavily in development. Though if they already have a buyer lined up for it then they may suspend development pending the sale.

Metro is a licensed IP (based on a book), but I think they fully own de Blob.

Edit: STALKER is also external.

Pretty sure they don´t own Stalker.

Pretty clear to me that the Humble Bundle they did was a gift to gamers before they had to close up shop like this. Sure, it was a quick cash grab, but it also was a nice thing to do knowing that everything was going to fall apart soon. And they definitely knew at that time...

Udraw fiasco was on the PS3/360 side correct?

Man THQ :(

Yep. I hear the £50m number being touted around for it too. I'm assuming that's how much it cost 'em. Might be wrong though.

If only they'd left it as a Nintendo thing. uDraw for the Wii U might have made more sense...

Metro is not owned by THQ, it is licenced by 4A Games from the owner, that Russian guy, I don't know his name. 4A had a publishing agreement with THQ, they will be free to find a publishing agreement with another player now, I think EA are a good shout, but that would make me sad as it would leave Insomniac in big trouble.

Was WWE 14 scheduled for Vita? Drats! I would have loved that!

They should do another humble bundle. Not that I think it would save them, but it would at least help them clear their debt and build my backlog.

A few weeks before the Humble Bundle, I said they should do a 'Save THQ Pack' on Steam and give you all THQ games for like 20$.

No one is going to acquire THQ outright. I think the question should be who is likely to buy their IPs and I think everyone would be interested in something like Saints Row.

Ya agreed. That game has shown to have legs. A next gen exclusive Saints Row would actually be a BIG pull for me.

Third parties would definitely want to grab saint's row, metro and darksiders as they were pretty successful so i'm hoping at least all is not lost with these franchises.

you know someone is going to go balls out to lock that WWE franchise

I don't think we have access to the licensing terms contract, but many contracts have clauses for "significant events" that could possibly terminate the licensing agreement. Companies may have to pitch back to the WWE itself if there is any clauses written in the terms.

Honestly, I am sure Relic will hand somewhere safely, merely considering the quality of their games which will be enough to temp a big publisher to try to make money out of them by proper marketing; the rest? Well, I don't give a damn, THQs output has been quite lackluster.

I think Metro is looking to be much more unique than Fuse is.

EA already expressed interest in getting Relic.

Every time I see that picture I laugh at the idea that EA somehow played a part in the fall of Pandemic.

Westwood also. I mean it's not like their games improved when they went independant.

You would be surprised how powerful the bankruptcy code is and whether these kinds of clauses can hold up.

Well . . . no one can say that this is a surprise.

Glad to know that Company of Heroes 2 will move forward (as we knew it would no matter what happened).

I kinda wish THQ got swallowed up by another publisher though to get some more consolidation.
