^ Damn... that second screenshot.

UE4 doesn't use all the upcoing features eitehr from Epic, Nvidia Gameworks , Quixel, Substance and many other companies, one day there will be some games/ projects that will use them all and you won't have words to describe what you will see !

Now that it's free, my friend is making me learn this stuff. Since i've never developed anything in my life, it's quite a challenge!

But, so far. I've mad a Pong game, except for some reason player 2 won't move. So it's easy to win! Although there's no score system in place, so i'm not really winning.

I find this very user friendly, and pretty fun to work with! I hope one day, i'll be able to do some really cool stuff with this!

The texture work on that gun is amazing.

Indeed. The new shock riffle design looks pretty fantastic.

Well of course. But it is already looking good as it is. Bring on insta-death shock riffles.

Downloading as I type, but I want to ask questions first I have 0 knowledge about this engine or making games. Can I make a UE4 game that doesn't burn down people's homes? Like how much control I have over how much power is needed to run at game at 60fps? I would be fine with last gen games with better frame rate and 1080p.

I don't know the first thing about game engines, but free is free, and these aspirations aren't going to crush themselves.

I have worked in 3D for a few years, and dropped it because most of what I was doing was architectural showreel and stuff. I got to do a weapon for Killing Floor once, but didnt get it animated/coded, or else it would have been included in the game. Eitherway, ill probably see if I can make a simple game out of this.

You can obviously control everything, as you can make 2D games or 3D games. You can make it look like a Nintendo 64 or PlayStation 1 title if you felt like. Even with the impressive demos they have on the Unreal Engine Marketplace, you can control the video options like any PC game.

If you're starting out from absolutely nothing and want to mess around getting results quickly, I suggest going down the level design route. They have a pretty straight forward video tutorial you can follow along with

Also just recently did one specifically on UT, which covers UT specific entities

Otherwise hit the Learn tab and download every Premade Project, Sample, and Example available

Haha that is what I was thinking. People who have spent any significant time with C++ will tell you it is a complicated language. I've spent several years using C++ and I don't feel comfortable saying I know the language well. I learn new things about it way more often than you'd think.

What? you are Sydney Rauchberger from Epic? If so then this is awesome. :D

How come there's no Unity 5 thread here? Unity 5 is also free!!! Damn, I gotta try them both out. I just want to see if I can get a very bare bones polygonal mesh running around and attacking other bare bones polygonal mesh with a sword. I wonder how user friendly is Unity 5?

A bit cheapskate-like maybe, but is there some way to split the costs between a pack of items on the marketplace? If you're more than one person who needs the same content but live in different locations.
