On one hand I say, yes, the gaming industry needs its Deadpool to enable studios/investors to put real bank behind mature titles.
The other hand looks at DOOM 2016/eternal and thinks we've mostly got our Deadpool moment evolving since Wolfenstein. Modding puts gaming firmly into M/AO/R categories e.g. Duke stripper mods, DOOM nudes, strip poker sims, a ton of anime/Japanese titles etc. If you're talking about AAA mainstream it's tough to look past recent titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Scorn or Hellblade II etc. Obviously, Nintendo falls way behind in this genre, for good reasons. Sony generally are quite accepting to let devs/publishers put out what they want of any rating, especially when you consider TLoU, Heavy Rain, Catherine etc. PC is probably the least restrictive and more mature target audience though.
