Witcher 3 Upcoming Xbox One Patch To Include 30 FPS Lock

That certification process takes too long. I don't get it; it's not like they're ending up with bullet-proof patches/updates because of it (see TMCC) and hell, even Witcher 3 has the corrupt save bug. It's still very hit and miss. They could be a lot more versatile if they worked that out.

Lock vs Cap since some people seem to be confused.

Cap = Framerate will never go above this number
Lock = Framerate will always be at this number.

There only way to lock a framerate is to guarantee that no matter what happens onscreen, the platform has enough power to ensure 30fps is always being rendered.

This can result in IQ settings dynamically dropping, resolution dynamically changing, or just making a game that isn't really that system intensive.

But if any game was previously dropping below 30 (not sure if this is the case here), and now its "locked" at 30 fps, you can expect there was a dip in IQ somewhere or some bugs were found/eliminated.

Good stuff as always CDPR!

I hope the font size will be optional, as I game on a monitor, so I rather have the smaller font for the time I'm ready to play.

To the CDPR GAF members, you can hire me to proof-read your English - my PM box is always open!

Hell yeah downloading 1.03 now on PS4, also CDPR need to get someone to proof-read their patch notes. Can't even spell Japanese, lol

I just launched the game on my Xbox One, and the first cutscene really turned me off. Not because of the cutscene itself, but it was really lagging with poor FPS. Is it my Xbox? If not, they did a really poor job on this.

Sounds like they only increased the font size in the loot window, just like on PC. I want the whole thing enlarged, but the loot window was the worst part.

YES. This is great to hear. Maybe it's just me, but I can really tell that the framerate fluctuates and stutters because of it. I'd much rather have a locked 30 frames than an unlocked 35. Also increasing the font size is also good news. I wonder if they can somehow make it customizable, like the rest of the HUD

Would this would imply some sort of selective performance issues because some xboxes are better than others?

People aren't having problems, performance is all over the place. Whether one is inclined to notice more than others is a possibility

When people use words like "atrocious" and "unplayable" to describe the game then it's plausible something else might be at play. Personally I've had no such issues that would warrant the use of those words to describe the game. After having played ACU for a good while, this game feels pretty darn smooth overall.

They should say 'cap'

Everyone should say cap because you can't set the minimum, only the maximum. It's a technicality. If you were able to lock a framerate, it would mean that the game's minimum framerate is bound and chosen by the user, something which just doesn't happen. The hardware's load is what determines that.

1.03 is up for ps4, hopefully it'll trickle to other countries and see the xbox one come shortly after.

Yea the opening pre rendered cutscene is messed up. lol

In the actual game the only time i've really noticed it chugging was the level 33 i think hunt, the poison spider queen where there were a bunch of little baby spiders and the cave was filled with poison fog and stuff. That and when you are flying real fast on the horse and it is trying to load in stuff real fast.

Nah, it even does that on PC. I suspect that has to do with the game loading in the background while that cinema plays. It also happens during the recap movie that plays anytime you continue a game.

No it's the game. The frame rate is between 30 and 40 fps and there's a frame pacing problem which adds extra judder to the micro stutter.

I replayed The Witcher 2 on 360 a few weeks ago and it's smoother than Witcher 3 on Xbox One. It's embarrassing.

I envy people who don't see it.

Edit: You meant the video? I don't know why it plays like that.

Good news. I would guess this is a cap, but cool if it is fully locked

Hopefully it is. The Xbone version drops below 30 fps as well.

There is no way a game like Witcher 3 can guarantee frames shorter than 33ms in every situation. He probably meant what you are describing as a "30fps cap".

It seems the xbox versions lowest drop is 29fps and it constantly running above 30 fps while fluctuating makes it seem like it is taking heavy drops.

It's not your XB1, it's apparently an issue for everyone. I'm not even touching this game until the patch goes through. I'm kind of annoyed I bought this at launch.

Sorry for the bump, but any idea when the patch is suppose to be out? Can't believe PS4 and PC have already received multiple patches.

Man they better have fixed the missing Roche bug. I even emailed them my save game file with the bug. It's literally game breaking as get junior is a main quest. Stopping me from carrying on playing. Can't be that hard to fix and get Roche to respawn in the right place. Massively annoyed if I install this and he is still missing.

Edit: Damn I thought the PS4 was getting a new patch. Had 1.03 for a while.

I had that bug happen as well. Just reload an older save and it will fix itself.

I literally ONLY experienced it during that first cutscene. Anyone here saying performance is atrocious seems full of shit to me. Even the DF stuff showed it was basically always above 30 with very rare dips to like 28-29 fps.

I'm pretty sensitive to framerates and I struggle to find any performance hiccups so far, aside from the intro cutscene section which was very noticeable.
