As far this "insider" is not like the Blizzard one. I believe on Proelite and thuway, this E3 and lunch will be amazing.
I'll be having lunch during MS E3!

Aren't yields improved with more time?
MS have made their case that the One is very different to the PS4, why don't they delay the release to improve yields and launch at a later time with the "all in one entertainment box".
They don't want to give PS4 de facto timed exclusivity on AC4, BF4, and CoD and an extra holiday to gain traction.Aren't yields improved with more time?

MS would rather raise the price than lower clocks for yield
I'll be having lunch during MS E3!
What in the world makes you think that would be the case?
I really just want this industry to go back to Nintendo, Sony and PC. Yes, yes, ios and all that.
because that's how you deal with the cost of low yields
Not if your goal is profitability & supply rather than power. Microsoft didn't design the system to be powerful from the start, so why would you expect them to make sure that the clocks stayed the same at all costs?
maybe they should have stopped trying to convince the audience how fast their pre-recorded proof of concept video of their OS was and just labeled the video 'this is a proof of concept' and stopped trying to act like it was real-time during the conference?
It's not that the OS won't quite obviously be much improved by launch, it's just they shouldn't have tried to pretend it was realtime.
Is this whole downclocking rumor getting its own thread? Just curious because it seems like a totally different topic from UI.
Check out that buggy OS.
I don't buy that whole 800-900 gflops rumour. That's barely 3 times the raw power of the PS3. I know the new architecture is also more efficient but still a very minor gap.
On the plus side there is finally a non bashing Youtube video about the Xbox One with more likes that dislikes.
GAF will save it maybe
The PS4 won't have the stated raw power either I'd assume. It'll be still way more than the xbone - even if this rumor is false.
That comes from the same source that was right about Evolution's game (Drive Club).PS4 is doing just fine the last I heard. I wouldn't worry about Sony.

Hysterical thread is hysterical.
It's not like The Bone is going to be released tomorrow. Does anyone seriously think that the UI will be slow and choppy when finished?
hint:it won't

I honestly doubt its old software, why in the world would they demo software 7 months old before e3 when real deal is available? Makes zero sense. I call that they may be 7 months behind, not 7 months old

It still really does not matter if they faked it or not. They are promising features at the launch of their console. They will either deliver or get completely smeared. I would put money on it that they will ultimately deliver on their promises.
Just as Sony will deliver on their promises.
Even if it reserves a 10% of the GPU for the OS, as the Xbone does, it means that we are talking about the PS4 being a 100% more powerful system. Basically 810 gflops (900, the best scenario, working at 90%) vs 1600 gflops (1800 working at 90%).PS4 is doing just fine the last I heard. I wouldn't worry about Sony.

As far as I know the 360 was also reserving that percentage of GPU to the OS so I'm just guessing that is a standard percentage for consoles. Why would the PS4 require a major amount more of FLOPS reserved on the GPU?. Shouldn't it be roughly the same amount?. If not less?.

the embedded RAM is a different section of the die than the GPU
if the GPU is causing yield quality issues then downclocking it might let them use the lower-quality chips being produced
if the eSRAM is causing issues downclocking the GPU will do nothing to fix them
is that clear enough?
Whatever the Wii-U has, I think it's either EDRAM or 1T-SRAM, which is not true SRAM, but an EDRAM variant. The Xbox One apparently has 6T-SRAM, which I believe takes up significantly more space on die compared to EDRAM, but I think offers the advantage of being less of a hassle to cost reduce over time, or something to that effect.
People are....drawing conclusions from that video?
Really?
Nope. Clocks can only go down at this stage as they try to get acceptable yields.
Releasing useless info such as transistors count but not clock speeds should tell you all.
Heh, I haven't read the entire thread so this probably isn't an original thought but I could've swore the gif was still loading after it loaded, since it's hosted on minus.com. I did a double take when I realized that, indeed, that's how choppy it really was. I'm sure it will be fixed and, even, kudos to MS for showing the real thing. It's just surprisingly bad.
Kudos? Absolutely not. They have no business showing something that isn't ready for presentation. That was shockingly bad.
I guess as long as they can deliver on what was shown at e3 by the time it launches all this will be irrelevant. That said how many major media outlets have reported on this matter?
