The Last of Us: Remastered |OT| Game of the Years

Monotonous and clunky? Anyway....

If you haven't already written off the game, I would reccommend that you approach it as a strategy stealth game and not so much like a sneaking stealth game. For example:

At the train station, you have access to a couple molotovs and tons of bricks and bottles. I usually approach the area by tossing a brick to grab the attention of 3 or so clickers, then I toss a molotov to catch them on fire. Sometimes, I toss an additional bottle to catch another 1 or 2 curious clickers on fire. Then I proceed to toward the back of the station area, luring with bricks and bottles until I get to the final clicker and shiv them. I rarely use my guns - ammo is typically scarce and this isn't really a shooter so you have to get creative in how you navigate the areas.

I could see if someone was sneaking/shotting only (getting killed over and over) trying to find the safest path to the exit that it could become tedious, but if you are exploring, strategizing, and using the many tools available to you to lure and kill clickers, then it is a very rich, very interesting game to play (IMO).

And just to add to this, and show how brilliant the game is, I played this part in a completely different way. I snuck my ass around, choked out every runner, shived the clicker blocking the exit and made it to the next level without alerting a soul. That is the brilliance of the game. You have to stop, think, plan and act according to what feel is the best approach, given your inventory.

I understand how some people may not like the gameplay and think it isn't fun because it isn't. A lot of the time theres a feeling of dread and its very intense. I have to stop and take a breather from time to time, but that is the beauty of the game. It's a survival horror and there is absolutely none of that Uncharted feel good vibe.

Does anybody know if you can get all the collectibles/shiv doors trophies via chapter select? Or do I need to do it in a full play through?

I'll tell you, though, the lack of the bass in the Gold really makes the crack of the guns sound much better. Gunshots are much sharper and more piercing than the other headset I was using with more bass.

I could be wrong here because I only spent a little time messing with the custom presets in the companion app, but if you really want the bass you should be able to mess with it in there.

Granted this is for anyone interested in having more bass. This isn't the prefect option, but it does allow you to mess with the basics.

Finished the main story, for the first time. I'm actually surprised the game lived up to the hype as much as it did.

Opinions on ending follow:

I'm not sure how I feel about how it ended, though. I did see the last level coming, but it still didn't sit right with me. Ended up going through the whole level without killing a single fire fly that I didn't have to. I get that Ellie was Joel's reason for living at that point and that's why he took her back and ruined everything, I understand his motivations, but it just felt like he was being an idiot about it. But what really got me about the ending was the incompleteness of it. It seemed like Ellie's infection was progressing, that she also felt like Joel was lying to her, but that's all the ending showed before cutting to credits. Felt kinda underwhelming, especially with all the things Joel got away with.

In either case, that's my 2 cents. Enjoyed the game thoroughly, and started the left behind DLC. Liking the multiplayer too.

I wish I could play this game with the 30fps option, but the 60fps SHADOWS. The 30fps shadows are kinda messed up. They're missing in a lot of areas or you have to get really close to an object before the shadow pops in. Ugh.

The subway after you leave the Capitol building

Not just there. There's a few other areas that are overcast/low sun where the shadow detail gets absolutely murdered.

First street in Boston, town after the sewers, and
the University
. The last two were particularly bad. There is a chance that it has to do with my TVs undefeatable dynamic contrast setting (it can't even be adjusted in service mode) but playing with every setting possible did nothing. I just brought it up again since some others mentioned it. Thankfully most of the game has been fine and looked great, I just want to call some attention to it in case it's a quick fix. Either that, or I need a new TV sooner than I think.

So you want impacted gameplay and jaggish shadows?

Just play it on ps3 then. All the jank your weird brain needs.

I think you'll like the DLC. I thought it did a good job getting to know a certain character more than you already did. I know you already started it, but if you aren't to far into it, the comic is a great read as a prequel to it.

Just turned Listen Mode off on Hard, hope it's not too bad, but I feel like this is how it's meant to be played.

Also, I thought trophy progress was supposed to carry over?

For collectables? It does, but it doesn't get rid of the ones you have already found. The extra dialogue might not carry over. I think you have to get that in one play through, but I'm not 100%.

Turning listen mode off takes things to another level. Prepare your butthole for maximum pucker!

It's not your tv man. We all gots issues. The weird thing is I set my tv up in a in game dark room, had it looking sweet. Walked Joel out and then back in again. The flooding brightness kicked in again. I do not have any dynamic settings on my tv switched on. There is something going with the game. I guess we just have to deal and hop nd patch it.

Oh! That's great to hear. I probably won't be Trophy hunting with the game but I was interested to see what carried over.

So far things are just so much more tense, but I love it. Having a pair of A50's helps ease the pain just a bit.

Been meaning to ask this for a while, but does anyone feel the collision detection boxes on objects are way too big? I'm always getting stuck on scenery and furniture that's not even that close to me. I'll either slow down like I'm scraping against it or stop completely. Its really fucking annoying.

I appreciate those that watched the stream and stuck around through it. Grounded can be a pain in the dick but overall it isn't so bad besides one or two parts. Will pick up tomorrow in the afternoon again.

I just played the same encounter for the past three hours and made no progress on Grounded. What. The. Fuck.

It's the scene where Ellie just gets the rifle and is supposed to be protecting you. Well guess what? She doesn't protect you for shit in Grounded mode. Whoop. Dee. Fucking. Doo.

I feel like if the game didn't have combat it would be easier to get through.

For everyone saying the Gold's are they way to go, I disagree.

I bought these, the original 2011 stereo headset with VSS is incredibly better.

>Better mic position
>louder overall sound
>incredible bass

After buying the Gold, and then returning to these; it was a HUGE improvement, and I am really disappointed in the Gold.
I have that OG sony headsets and wondered how it stacks up against the latest one. Im surprised by your feedback to be honest. My headset is still working like new amd i never had the sense that it needed replacement thats why im still using it. Will probably upgrade if the improvement is really that drastic from my current one.

I must have played through this game 3 or 4 times on the PS3, and I just can't get enough of the game play. It's hooked me all over again with this PS4 version.

It has such weight and heft to it, giving traversing the world and engaging in combat a visceral feel. Looting/scavenging for supplies is also really addicting.

Does anyone else wish they had put more cupboards/drawers/shelves to open and search? Even if the spawn rate of items stays the same, just give me shit to open and check!

Good job passing the
neighborhood sniper
section. That's one of the areas I was stuck in for longest time on grounded.

I'm surprised I didn't take much long considering I only had 1 bullet between 6 weapons. lol. I now have a modded pipe but not enough supplies for the next shiv door so I'm a little peeved about that. Hopefully I'll get lucky and find something before. Tomorrow is Fall but I don't think I'll have too many problems with it. Can't remember an encounter that sticks out too much in my mind. Winter I already feel the rage. Can't wait!

Yeah. I got the Platinum on PS3 this way for quite a few trophies.

Good to know thanks! Looks like I'll be doing that after my first playthrough, then I'll do my grounded run. The game is a LOT of fun!

I'm playing it that way on my first ever playthrough and have yet to really hit a difficult spot. I'm about
halfway through Winter
.

Does this also have the audio settings to load? The one reason im put off by the golds is that my friend has one and his mic sounds terrible.

For folks beating the game for the first time:

Highly, highly, highly recommended Druckmann keynote about the game's origins, his motivations, and personal interpretation of the ending. Video and audio quality is not super (and this is from the conference's official channel - I guess just be thankful we have any video at all) but it's a very interesting watch.

Thanks for this. Great watch. That night of the living dead game Neil was talking about sounded awesome. Ico meets sin city

Just purchased it today, never played it on PS3. I am about 1 hours into the game now. Does it gets better? So far, I am not impressed.

The graphic is good, but not that good. It looks like a painting but lacks some liveliness in other games even on PS3 or Xbox 360.

The combat, I am just not getting used to. I like Gears of War type of cover system. Overall it is still a high quality game, just a bit disappointed after seeing that many 10s.

Yeah, realizing/remembering that Hard isn't that bad at all if you just take your time.

To the poster above, give it time. If you aren't floored by the end of
Summer
then it may not be for you. Bare in mind that this point is roughly 3-6 hours into the game.

I don't think I died at that part of struggled on survivor. Your companion can do a good amount of the work if you stick back. We'll see how it goes for me tomorrow.

I'm about 7 hours in and I can say wholeheartedly that it gets waaaayyyyyy better.

Im 99% sure the 30fps lock is fucked. Far too jiddery. Seems like 30fps lock @ 30hz
Yeah it doesnt feel like a normal 30fps for some reason to me either. after playing Destiny recently a LOT, it feels different

It gets WAY better. You get to a certain point and the game clicks and it never slows down again

I agree. I do think the effect is exacerbated by abruptly switching from 60 to 30 but something definitely feels off for the 30fps option.

Just finished the game for the first time. Loved most of the story, hated the ending.
Wish there was more of a heartwarming scene between Joel and Ellie, they both deserve that type of connection, rather than Ellie having regrets and Joel lying. I was waiting for a big payoff and it never happened.

I'm pretty sensitive to that kind of thing, and I just played through the first 45 minutes and noticed nothing strange about the gamma.

No, no, no, the gamma problems show up farther than that.

I mean, there's definitely something wrong with Plato's television, but you'll get to the section where it's extremely noticeable soon.

Are the options for the Gold headphones supposed to only say 2.0 channel? That's all I can see, and with the TLOU preset.
