Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

Everybody plays more or less the same for consistency's sake. Osiris has Artemis, but that's about it.

I was thinking about the Elite thing myself. Best guesses: new-gen Mjolnir armor evens the score a little, or it could just be that the average quality of Elites is lower than what they fought in the earlier books. M'dama's Covenant is kind of a "losers and insurgents" sort of organization, so it makes sense that the recruit and training quality would be lower.

Yeah I guess. The Promethian Knights went down pretty easy too, but I can probably write that off as better equiptment

From what Ive posted in the other thread:

This trailer kind of demonstrate what has been debated here on Gaf before, about 343i not taking seriously the Spartans abilities (I remeber that someone even mentioned a Halo Wars CGI). The Spartans on Halo 5 seems pretty bad ass now!

I must be getting old because I freaking hated that past the point they jumped off the ship. Waaaay too over the top for me, waaaay too much Marvel Superhero, waaaaay too much going on. Technical beauty aside, the action didn't impress me at all.

I did like the part before they jumped though!

They have air/orbit support behind them. It's not supposed to be a stealth insertion. More of an EXCUSE ME SPARTAN DEMONS RECOVERING ASSET insertion.

If you want subtle don't send Buck.
Buck was always just a lame ass ODST that is for some reason now a Spartan with superman abilities in a shift beyond implausibility.

That was hype as fuck. Mouth was wide open from the moment they jumped out of the ship to the last second. Chief and Blue Team have a high bar to jump during their introduction.

I don't know, I just don't think shooting hordes of aliens at a blistering fast pace while sliding down a mountain alongside falling space cruisers is as effective as some of the smaller moments we might come across in earlier games. And I suppose I should also add that I never really got a goofy Power Rangers vibe from the books, specifically the Eric Nylund novels which I consider to be the best and most important in the series. I liked the hard sci-fi tone of those, they felt believable. This, however, feels like something else entirely.

Did you just refer to an Eric Nylund book as hard sci-fi?

Like putting a billionaire into a super suit and him being able to do crazy shit.

Man lore-wise that was kinda hard to swallow. I mean 4 Spartans gallivanting the battlefield and owning such a sizable force...? I'd understand if they were only reasonably outnumbered.

Otherwise, that was pretty awesome.

Incredible opening. Got me even more hyped. Osiris is pretty damn awesome, much more than i thought, they seem more Spartan than Majestic. Seeing Buck's ODST helmet brought a tear to my eye.

As a fan, I would have liked to have seen consistency across the mainline games, while over-the-top action such as this trailer's could be reserved for a spin-off or something of that sort. If that were the case, then by all means- go all-out.
Its funny, because you want consistency in mechanics (in terms of more grounded pace to movement and combat) where I'm looking for the games to be better representations of the books (which made me a fan). We're both correct in our own ways I think, but from two opposite perspectives.

Cinematic was bad ass, but like all cinematic in FPS it shows characters doing things you can't do when you can finally control them

I won't be surprised if they as veterans of long and hard war are less showy in their movements in battle and not as cheeky and joking. To drive in the point that MC and Blue Team are old scarred veterans.

Where Locke & Co. felt very showy and cheeky, excited newbies :D

Incredible trailer! That is exactly how the Spartans are described in the book, once they have momentum they are near unstoppable. To anyone who says otherwise go back and read some of the action scenes.

Hey Stinkles, can you say if there are more cutscenes in this style throughout the game, the prerendered using in-game assets stuff, or is this type of cutscene more of a one-off, saved for the big opening and ending scenes?

I think if you look closer it's more like Halo 4. Covie & Humans are working together against Jul's Covie & Prometheans. Visually it can create confusion but that was my take away.

I just have to accept that 343 has gross color aesthetics. I'm so done with their icky warm and yellowish white tones. Always doing bad late bloom-lit afternoon visuals blegh. Just a bad red filter or something like they did to Halo 2 Anniversary. Like could you not just tint everything if you wanna pull off sunset? This is caustic gross 5pm filter

And don't get me started on the purple and yellow nastiness from E3

Holy shit... my ears are bleeding tears of joy... what the fuck does that even mean!? I don't know... incredible trailer.

Not a fan of the mindless action so we can see all of the cool stuff that bares little resemblance to actual gameplay. I guess Halo 4's story trailer was great but barely panned out in the actual game too..

They write the dialogue trying to sound military-esque, but it just comes off as some cheesy fan fiction.

343 Halo has always been cheesy fan-fiction, at lest they're leaning into it in a mostly good/fun way this time.

Their Forerunner stuff is still dumb as shit though, every time I get hyped for this game I remember that that stuff is gonna be a part of the story and I get really bummed out about it.

I do hope we do get a cool set piece level like this actually. Ski battling down a mountain would have been a really memorable moment.

Why do you like him? There's literally nothing I like about him, lol. Even his armor looks dopey.
Charming dude, in a cheesy kinda way. But I guess that's Nathan Fillion in a nutshell.

But naw, his armor is pretty cool here. I was one of the people opposed to him being a Spartan to begin with, but with the book and making him a main character in Halo 5 it's a lot easier to digest.
I love the attention to detail (the localized shield flaring)

Tanaka's armor gets hit a bit, too when they're free-falling.
