The late 2000s were glory days for Wii and DS, not just (or even primarily) Wii. Remember, the famed "It prints money!" GIF people used to love was about the DS, not the Wii.Wii was glory days? I mean I know the hardware sold like hot cakes, but having owned one I just remember it being a dumping ground for shovel ware with good games being few and far between.
I did love Mario Galaxy 1+2 though.

I can't believe how many people still fall for tentative release dates posted up by websites.
So it looks this device might be a powerful mobile machine but a very under powered home console. Just like the PSP with tv out.
If that is the case then it'll be the first Nintendo console that I would have no interest in buying, since i don't play hand held games.
Knowing Nintendo, the dock will just be a charging station.

Pretty much yes. The "console" end of it is just for the west really, in Japan it wouldn't surprise me if the tablet and controllers were sold together as just a handheld without the console dock included. In the west though it'll probably be marketed as a console first that you can take with you, with the handheld 3DS still being supported for a couple years alongside it.If the rumors are true then the NX is just an indirect way for Nintendo to leave the console space.
It should have more than enough juice to run a 1080p Smash U port without any extra processing from the dock. The rumored Pascal chip would be roughly 3x Wii U's Latte and suppossedly the ARM CPU even outclasses the Jaguars in PS4/One.Man I just hope the dock gives it enough of a power boost to play games at native 1080p. I don't even need 4K or 1440p or whatever upscaling is happening, I just don't want Smash to get downgraded to native 720p.
NX reveal anticipation saves livesthus the device is never to be revealed
Maybe that's what Nintendo's quality of life thing was about all along.

I know I've said it a ton on GAF already, but the Wii has easily the most underappreciated gaming library ever. It's phenomenal, both quality and variety.
Having a handheld connected to TV output is similar to tablets and smart phones connected to TV using different ways which we have seen over the years. If nx provides something similar, why so secretive unless they are living closed doors. Adding a controller or type of controller could be similar in some cases when we get controller attachments for phones.. Still trying to understand what is going to be game Changer or truly innovative idea ..

I doubt Sakurai would even allow them to limit to 720p on tv mode. 1st party games will most likely push for native 1080p with Wii U level visuals on your television.I know it's capable I'm just worried that since the console's screen is 720p that it won't output a native 1080 signal or something.
People bought into the "Wii is not a real hardcore console" narrative pretty hard.
Indeed. The Wii has the second best line-up of games of all time next to the Super Nintendo.E3 2006 and E3 2010.
If you count Virtual Console I'd take Wii over any other home console or handheld full stop. Just an insane lineup there alone.Indeed. The Wii has the second best line-up of games of all time next to the Super Nintendo.
You can play the games on your tv with a controller - if you're interested in the games what exactly is stopping you from buying the console? Some absurd principle that you won't buy anything that could be defined as a handheld?
The debate over what it should be defined as is pure semantics. It's the console that will replace both the 3DS and the Wii U and provide the complete Nintendo lineup of games.
its still a significantly step above Wii U, and it will get all kinds of games (BoTW).
But in this case, TV-Out and portability isn't going to capture anyone's attention like the Wii Remote did. We're running close to GamePad levels of interest.
Isn't it a touch premature to make that claim?
Some trademark claim about RE7 for NX. Who knows

This was brought up before. I translated it and it's talking about how "cartridges" is part of the description for RE7 and they're using that as maybe it means it's coming to NX.Some trademark claim about RE7 for NX. Who knows

everyday i wake up disappointed because i don't have any new hints on the NX
please nintendo stop this madness

It "replaces" the Wii U the same way the Wii "replaced" the GameCube. But in this case, TV-Out and portability isn't going to capture anyone's attention like the Wii Remote did. We're running close to GamePad levels of interest.
So I'd hardly call the argument "semantics". Constraining it to being a handheld architecture greatly limits the technological leap that can be achieved and puts Nintendo even further out in left field than they already are in the market.
And not being able to technologically meet the PS4 means a reduced number of 3rd-parties will be involved, as 3rd-parties have slowly been reducing their handheld game output since the DS days. That is what has me walking away from Nintendo if this "handheld-plus" is all they have to offer, because I'm not willing to accept that anymore. Hardly an arbitrary concern.
And lastly, it not that it "could" be defined as a handheld, it WILL be defined as a handheld. By 3rd-parties who already don't release games for handhelds or only provide stripped-down experiences, by the media, by the average consumer. TV-Out will not change that, everything else is marketing.
I've seen people in this thread drag out Just Dance as a game that justifies calling it a console. But Just Dance is also on iOS, and I don't see anyone calling an iPhone a home console any time soon.

Hoping the NX is backwards compatible with the 3DS. I know the games wouldn't look 'great' on a big screen TV at that resolution but I'd be nice not to miss out on games that haven't released yet because I don't own a 3DS (Etrian Odyssey V for example).
I wouldn't be surprised to see a smaller truly handheld NX device in the future to replace 3DS once they can shrink the chipset down and reduce thermal constraints enough. Perhaps also a cheaper console only version at some point too for more budget conscious westerners who don't care about portability. Starting with the hybrid model allows them to test a lot of waters with just one SKU.I don't think this NX hybrid is the only NX. Nintendo keeps calling it a platform. I'm definitely on the belief that there will be multiple NX systems. It will be a family of systems and this hybrid is just the first.
