The big deal being is that it's premature to start another launch when this one hasn't fully hit it's stride yet to push an even more expensive unit.

And what's more of a system seller than the biggest franchise on it? Again, there's no reason to put out another console until 2025, especially with the Pro there as an upgrade for those that want one.

Except that the console has literally hit its stride one and a half fiscal years ago, and it's been a constant decline in hardware sales since, something that, AGAIN, will NOT change in FY25, FY26 or FY27. You seem to have a very different definition of 'premature' than I have, from the simple fact that the console is being replaced on an exact same equivalent time frame as the PS4 after its peak period.

If GTA VI keeps the current release date, PS5 and PS5 Pro will basically have a true relaunch in 2026

We are talking about the biggest video game release of all-time here

You say that like we've had a current gen mega hitter to move the fucking things. It's insane to think people would much rather shell out $600+ for a new system rather than just get those games that are going to be cross gen anyways for the platform they already have or could upgrade to for an (albeit high) still cheaper price. It's makes far more sense to release those games in the coming years while waiting out a better launch window that doesn't land in a tariff landmine of an economy.

They won't be able to lower anything because the new realities of the electronics hardware business don't allow for that anymore.
More powerful will simply cost just more going on. Silicon based technology is at its limits, chips made on more advanced nodes just cost so much more that you don't have ways to cut costs and companies have allowed the industry to depend on a single manufacturer (TSMC).

It's likely that PS5 Pro be dismissed when PS6 launches like happened with the PS4 Pro.
599$ with no disc drive is the minimum you can expect a "real" PS6 to launch at and that's with Sony absorbing losses.
They will have something like Series S (handheld or not) to have something that can be sold to a more mainstream market.
Cross gen with PS5 will last for many years, potentially for most of the gen, there won't be any way to sell 100m+ of the most powerful model, they'll base the business around software and services sales and their profitability across a whole ecosystem of platforms.
This has already been telegraphed by them during the financial results.

This is kinda the future we're heading to and releasing PS6 one year later isn't going to change anything based on this strategy.

The problem you have, is you are only thinking about yourself.

As a whole (Sony and the consumers).
Sony would release the PS6 to generate revenue, leverage new technology, stay competitive, and keep players in its ecosystem, while consumers would buy it for better performance, exclusive games, more efficient hardware, new technology, new experiences, social connections, the appeal of being early adopters, etc.

Based on all other electronics being released, 7 years is far from being premature.

They will release the machine when they see that the PS5 sales are drying up for good

The top selling months of the console are still ahead of us, so by definition any speculation is premature

It's the basis of marketing: you release a new product when thirst for it is at it's peak

It could be two years, three years from now I don't know

Way too soon to tell right now anyway

These prices are very optimistic considering that PS6 will have a die size as large as PS5 Pro ($749) and be on 3nm.

I expect $799 for the digital PS6

and $849 for the disc version.

Did the recent Project Amethyst Showcase have any effect on FSR 4.0 supposedly coming to the PS5 Pro in 206? Is that still happening?

I'm not a factor in this at all. Most everything you list would be better off waiting aside from wanting something new for the sake of it. And for what purpose? To play all the launch cross gen titles you could just play on your PS5? None of it makes financial sense for Sony unless it's a new type of hardware ala a portable of some kind.

Sony has already spoken about this. Unless you manage to become the CEO of SIE, 2027 seems most likely.

PS5 Won't Affect the Release Timing of PS6 – PlayStation CEO
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Sony Interactive Entertainment Platform Business Group CEO Hideaki Nishino spoke about the future of PlayStation, and reveals that the release timetable for the PS6 won't be affected by the lifecycle of the PS5.

Nishino believes the PS5 will be around as long as the PS4. He doesn't, however, think that it makes sense for the company to push future console releases back because of the success of its current line-up.

"We believe that PS5 will have a long lifecycle, just like PS4," said Nishino. "However, I don't think it is right to delay the timing of the launch of the next product that incorporates new technology because of the long time it will take."

"The timing for the launch of new hardware is related to the time frame in which technology evolves and the time frame in which we can implement that technology," he said. "Therefore, I think it is important to offer new products while people play those currently being used and to expand the total number of games we offer."

According to Nishino, the launch of the next console depends on the progress made in figuring out new hardware that could justifiably be referred to as next-generation. He also states that, even though a new console will eventually come out, the previous one will continue to be available for players, pointing to the PS4 being available throughout the PS5's lifecycle.

And that's the reason why Sony started to make mid-gen consoles
 
As an owner of the PS1-5, I can confidently say that PS6 would be the first launch that makes no sense. The value proposition, for me personally, is no longer there. The advantages which consoles once had over PC have dried up.

I don't buy these devices for multiplatform games. Given the current state of AAA development and Sony's first party output, it's going to be a hard pass from me.

I'm In the process of selling it, reason being, 3rd party games are going to be obviously played on the "big" consoles, many/most games still not having a NS2 version, 80€ pricetags for Nintendo games (which frankly I'm not a big fan of) etc etc...

Unfortunately, the FOMO got to me so...
I'd advise to just stay with your PS5/XSX/whatever for the time being.

I have a PC in the living room running Playnite, that's my "big console" nowadays. Switch 2 is the only thing I really need for dedicated consoles now. Until there is a good Switch 2 emulator….

Sony just won GOTY, has had a nominee every year this gen, and likely dropped two more GOTY nominees this year. The best multiplayer FPS in years just dropped yesterday. Indies and AAs are crushing it so hard we can't possibly buy or play them all.

Literally nothing would satisfy you people except a time machine and amnesia.

This gen I had a PS5 and now Pro because I thought I'd want to play all the exclusives when they launch, but I've consistently fallen behind and it ends up where I may as well have just waited and bought the PC version. I'll be passing on PS6 and Nextbox. PC+Switch+VR+Retro for me from here on out.

Ryan and Hulst really bungled this generation when it comes to first party titles. Consumer faith has to be at an all time low at this point.

You, again, refuse to acknowledge that the console has ALREADY had a peak period on terms of hardware sales and that nothing will be able to counter that, becauae that is absolutely not how any of this works. Wolverine isn't going to counter the decline, Intergalactic isn't going to counter the decline, GTA6? RDR2 didn't even counter a YoY decline between Q3, FY18 and Q3, FY17, while the latter didn't even have any software as generally appealing as RDR2. Rockstar's games aren't this magic power you believe they are.
Sony will subsidy the console to meet an affordable price (and given that the bar has increased, that's $600 top for the SKU with a disc drive), they're in a much better position to do it as the their continuous streams of revenue are actually able to make up for the hardware losses (evidenced by the fact that FY20 was their first FY ever to launch with a new console and not see an operating loss).

That's a very dumb argument, Sony isn't planning its console launches purely based on Naughty Dog's roadmap. ND could take 12 years to launch a new game (something that has already happened in the current industry, see Retro Studios) and SIE wouldn't coordinate a PlayStation launch with that.
The argument also falls apart when taking into account the fact that Intergalactic will still launch as a PS5 exclusive earlier into 2027 before the PS6 launches, so what exactly are you asking them to delay the console for? To have a second ND game for the PS5 generation? SIE sure as hell isn't considering to launch the PS6 in 2031.

The Last of Us released the same year as the PS4 on PS3. Nothing wrong with the same happening to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Also, Sony delaying the PS6 for a single game from Naughty Dog doesn't make sense.

It was just an example of how long big games take to be made... I never suggested Sony should delay PS6 for one game....

Doesn't matter to me when they release PS6 anyway, but to pretend 2027 is already set in stone seems pretty crazy to me

You've yet to tell me how the PS6 isn't going to suffer through the same problems as the PS5 when a lot of the conditions are the same or what even the benefits are. How is it easier to get people over from a PS4 (and now PS5) to an even more expensive console ($600 with tariffs my ass) with a lot of games just starting to come out now to this system? Why wouldn't Sony want to wait after all this tariff nonsense to launch with a lower price when their revenue is good now? Why is it bad to not reach the peak again as all consoles do while they continue to move units regardless? Who cares? Nintendo didn't just yank the Switch 2 because it peaked.

Waiting on the other hand gives them time to stock up games for a bigger launch, wait on better market conditions both tariffs and overall economy, and have better tech in the consoles itself to better justify an upgrade. It just makes more sense.

Maybe the purchasing habits need to adjust. Do you want to play the game fine on the PS5 you already have or get a ps6 to play it better? The old ways are over. It's just a hardware upgrade, in the sense that it's more optional now. PS6 won't make your PS5 obsolete overnight or even in 2 years.

ND has released three games so far this gen and cancelled one. Their fourth, Intergalactic, will likely release early 2027.

Er.. two of those three are remasters and one is a remake that uses the exact same voice, audio and mocap data from the 2013 original.

They've released zero new games this gen, so far.
