You are correct. PS5 Pro owner here. PS6 day one. PS6 Pro day one. And so onI strongly doubt the kind of people who bought a pro are bitching about the money they spent. And even if the PS6 were launching next year, they would probably have been first in line for that too.
I don't know why this figure gets confused. There is a clear difference between TDP and TBP. These leaked numbers will always speak to TDP and never to TBP, the latter of which is the from-the-wall power draw. Eg, the PS5 at 7nm had an SOC TDP of around 180W, but a a from wall power draw (TBP) of around 250W.I fully understand console form factor has its limits and im perfectly fine with that, but from the leaks we hearing ps6 gonna only have 160W tpd, while for example ps5pr0 had 240W limit from the wall(tested by DF), so sony themselfs limiting ps6 hard, likely to make it more cost effective/massmarket ready aka 500-600$ at max.
I think comparisons like these are unfair, or at the very least lacking context. Its almost as if we dont understnd how console design really goes or we are just in denial. The difference between the PS4pro and the PS5pro with regard to design philosophy is ML reconstruction. And the sooner people understand and accept this, the better, because it's the new benchmark for hardware design. The PS5pro is not designed to take native 1080p to 1440p/4K. It's designed to take native 1080p to 1440p/4K using MLR. That simple difference completely defines how a system is designed. For comparision ps4pr0 basically in worst case scenario bumped res from 1080p ps4 to 1440p on the pr0, thats +78% of pixels, and framerate usually got more stable on top, for same 400$/€ like base console costed, that was solid deal/great value unlike what we got current gen.
I would really like to know where this whole 160W power draw thing is coming from. As it stands, right now... no one can actually know something like that. The TDP is more likely to be known, even though thats never really set in stone by this time in development as all it takes to change that number higher or lower is something as simple as a clock's change.TLDR: If sony themselfs gimping ps6's powerdraw to only 160W (aka way below previous gen) by definition we can forget about big generational leap and even being within striking distance to modern low to midrange pc gpu's, tuff times ahead, all im saying.
Console only gamer gonna pay 80$(or who knows, maybe even 100$ if they increase game prices by next gen) for each game yet not getting full fat experience even low to midrange pc rig owners gonna be getting, thats a big L.
We dont have official ps6 specs nor price so we cant know about value proposition obviously, all im saying is if leaks prove to be true and 160W powerdraw ps6 is all we getting, it will be at best ps5pr0pr0, wont feel at all like proper next gen at all.
Remember pc tech moving forward too so by holidays 2027 we defo gonna have nvidia's 60xx series cards and amd's rdna5 cards too, they all will be expensive as hell, at least highend models, and actual streetprice(fake msrp be damned) so gap between console and pc hardware wont be smaller, it will be growing larger.
Which means only bargaining chip ps6 gonna have is offering good value, will it? We will know probably in 1,5year latest.
I just think its too early to tell. But here's something else people might miss.I see this more a point with me than against? Right, so PCs will continue to blow up in price, and we predict PS6 will be poor value because...it's moving the gap farther away from expensive PC into efficient humble console land. Again, what?
Without knowing specs, it's hard to call this either way, for or against. While we have diminishing returns, I still don't know what will be here in two years, so the 160w could be as ho-hum as the drop every gen since PS3. WiiU or Switch are poor examples here, if anything they work against your point because they show how little wattage you need to achieve the same as time goes on. Switch 2 runs competent versions of current gen games like RE with 20 watts. So why assume 160w console is a weak system?
Seems Unreal Engine 5 is really built for next gen anyways. Also, cdpr getting two attempts at cross gen games in a row is hillarious.
My point is- we know ps6 wont be able to compete not only against high range pc rigs but even againts midrange ones either, so only thing going for it will have to be value, and about value, at least looking at current gen, it doesnt look too optimistic at all, but again, those are pure speculations based on unofficial early leaks, gotta wait bit longer to be sure.I see this more a point with me than against? I wouldn't see 160w as an indicator of poor value is all I'm saying.
160W *?I do (and the cut memory bus)
I do (and the cut memory bus)
160W *?
TDP or TBP?
What's the memory bus issue? 640GB/s of bandwidth is bad? Why? What are they doing with more bandwidth? How much bandwidth do you think a 1080p/1440p native machine needs to hit and maintain 60fps?
These people should just get a PC.
the remake looks pretty much like dark souls 3 in terms of art directionWhy is the Demon's Souls remake so fucking different in terms of atmosphere and style, it's like Blue Point either deliberately or by accident (don't know which case is worse) looked at the original, said decided that all they saw were technical limitations and said "nah!" and instead did a Hollywood dark fantasy Soulslike.
The enthusiast class with ever increasing die size and whooping prices are nothing to go by. The 4060 is barely stronger than a PS5. That's stagnation. How has NVIDIA rasterization been stagnating for ages? Maybe in the low-end where they purposely gut their cards and make them smaller with each generation.
2080 Ti>3090 Ti: 60%
3090 Ti>4090: 55%
4090>5090: 30%
They illustrate the actual progress of the die. The 60 series is a great case study of shrinkflation.

Here quick DF video with the proof:
That wont look like good value proposition once again(same like super expensive and pathethically weak ps5pr0), so who really knows how things go...
We had back in the days one manufacturer making their stationary console draw much less power from the wall vs competition, that was nintendo and its Wii that ate around 16Watts while gaming, and it was significantly weaker vs ps3/x360.
WiiU used way less power than ps4/xbone too, and we know massive difference in graphics fidelity between those mashines.
TLDR: If sony themselfs gimping ps6's powerdraw to only 160W (aka way below previous gen) by definition we can forget about big generational leap and even being within striking distance to modern low to midrange pc gpu's, tuff times ahead, all im saying.
Console only gamer gonna pay 80$(or who knows, maybe even 100$ if they increase game prices by next gen) for each game yet not getting full fat experience even low to midrange pc rig owners gonna be getting, thats a big L.
But its all speculations aka "tales from my ass" based on leaks, not official info/data so who really knows, maybe we will actually get proper highend ps6 with 250-300W powerdraw thats similar or even above rtx 4090 performance, including rt and ai upscaling, we will know soon enough coz if those next gen mashines coming holidays 2027 we will have to have actual official presentation by feb-may 2027 lates, and actual very credible leaks even in 2026.
if true I will most likely not buy at launch unless physint is a launch game.![]()
PlayStation 6 Release Locked for 2027, "Not Just on the Table, It’s the Plan," Says Leaker Following Sony and AMD's Project Amethyst Showcase
After Sony and AMD’s “Project Amethyst” tech showcase teased the building blocks of the next console generation, a well-known tech leaker says PlayStation 6’s launch isn’t a maybe, it’s the plan for 2027.thegamepost.com

It's not stagnation and it's not that the rastrerzarion hasn't improved, it has. They just cut down their low-end products more and more. The enthusiast class with ever increasing die size and whooping prices are nothing to go by. The 4060 is barely stronger than a PS5. That's stagnation.
That's a 2029 game at least.if true I will most likely not buy at launch unless physint is a launch game.
It will take a lot to get me on board. But if they release a balanced, small, cheap console then I'll consider it.
If they're still going to chase POWER and end up with a $599+ console I don't really care. I'll just stick with PC.
Make something small, cheap, with modern tech and good ai features to compensate and I'll be there. Games scale well now, FSR5 will probably exist by then, we don't need 70 CU's and a high price tag in the age of ai upscaling and diminishing returns.
Nah, the PS5Pro is $700, things aren't getting cheaper with tariffs and AI driving up chip prices.nah U$600 max
If this is the case, console gaming ll be dead in a year.Nah, the PS5Pro is $700, things aren't getting cheaper with tariffs and AI driving up chip prices.
$800 minimum, could be $850. I don't think $900 only because 9 is an expensive looking number.
Nope. They will target a price point and set the hardware specs accordingly to hit it. The base model will not be $799+. The PS6 will be designed as a mass market device.Dude.... it's definitely going to be $800 minimum.
I don't think they will be that price.Sony will want to sell upwards of 80m and they won't be doing that at them pricesNah, the PS5Pro is $700, things aren't getting cheaper with tariffs and AI driving up chip prices.

FTFY. People are screaming in the streets pulling their hair because the 450€ Switch 2. No way in hell this stuff wouldn't face a massive backlash if it nears the 600€ figure. If the standard PS6 launches at above $550 dollars, then its joever.
Why should they? These people should just get a PC.
Apples to apples, not to orangesTLDR: If sony themselfs gimping ps6's powerdraw to only 160W (aka way below previous gen) by definition we can forget about big generational leap and even being within striking distance to modern low to midrange pc gpu's, tuff times ahead, all im saying.

PC is PC with its own set of problems
I have both Pro and PC w 7900xtx - I will not play PC if I have a choice besides some specific genres (MMO and FPS).People who care about power should invest in PC. Support for Pro consoles are always lackluster. I was so disappointed in PS4 Pro that I switched to PC exclusively and have 0 regrets. And zero problems.

Just not that level of comfort and lots of random troubleshooting
I earn my living by coding and I have been PC gaming since you had to do a memmaker in DOS to free RAM. Troubleshooting PCs is neither new or strange to me. I just don't want to work when I'm home, is that so shameful.Yeah for some people technology can be challenging. Consoles are an easy way out.

If you consider not working at home normal please give me convincing arguments for my partner. Thanks.

But if you want to gaslight youngster into PC "plug and play" be my guess.
The times of pushing consoles to their limit is basically in the past.lol FK OFF Sony.
Feels like devs haven't even started to push the PS5 limits yet.
Wouldn't surprise me now MS has cucked out, Sony will try and further close the gap between gens going forward. PS7 in 2032!
If we remain in an era where consoles no longer shrink in price, and world conditions necessitate increases, it makes the most sense just to buy it at launch. You get the lowest average cost per day of use and potentially avoid price increases later.I honestly think the pro will last a few years into next gen with not so drastic differences

And there is Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 as well. This masterpiece of an RPG got completely forgotten in GOTY talks somehow. E33, Hades 2, Silksong and KCD 2 are the 'locked' nominees for me so far. And then probably Bananza to have Nintendo represented as well (not saying that Bananza isnt great, I havent played it myself).E33, Bananza, Silksong, Hades II, Blue Prince, Split Fiction.
It's possible and I would even say likely that neither GOY or DS2 gets a nomination.
HDR is broken (yes, I use Windows 11), Windows in general but more specifically arbitrary CPU requirements for updates, drivers, game optimisation, differences between DirectX versions, DirectX was a pain years ago BTW, specific solutions like copy this DLL here for problems that only a 0.1% of the user base has, change an .ini file…You cant make statements about troubleshooting and not provide any actual proof. What are you specifically having to trouble shoot with your PC?
These days? Once you set up your OS and install everything, it just works. Zero issues whatsoever. You'd have to be seriously tech-challenged to mess it up. Even things like streaming to Steam Deck and cloud saves. Smooth as butter.
Usually it's just more powerful. Portable is a pretty big hook, and it's not surprising at all that they'd try it. They have a long history of copying successful Nintendo initiatives.Sony HAS to have something up their sleeve for PS6 besides just portable and more powerful. What is the hook?
99% of the time these days you just click play on a game. Naturally there is that 1% that stuff does go wrong, that consoles just don't have. But for the majority of users it usually just works, it wouldn't be nearly as popular these days if the likelihood of issues were that high.![]()
