Nioh 3 will be console exclusive to PS5 for 6 months

Some other platform holder would beg for such 'mediocrity'.
It's all a matter of perspective i guess. What I've learned here on GAF is that low to mid 80 scores can mean anything from mediocrity, to disappointment, to Game Pass filler trash or even a masterpiece.

Most of Team Ninja output is like that, it varies from mid to masterpiece depending on who you ask.

I know their gameplay is sublime. Level design is ok at best. story ….. the less its in there, better the game.

Anyone that values their combat likes them.

I'd buy it on sale. I loved Nioh 1 and 2 but I'm still a bit lukewarm on 3. Certainly not something I'd buy for $70. I was already planning to get all 3 on PC. Getting them cheap since I'm buying 1 and 2 for the second time.

Nothing new that personal opinions don't always line up with review scores. Don't need GAF to tell us that. But if someone asks how a game was generally received then metacritic is as good as anything else as a response, I guess. If we are talking about console war measuring sticks......well, that's a different thing entirely.

Since Sony also publish on PC, why would they give a shit?

Also people forget that Ni-Oh was first announced at E3 in 2005, so the original deal probably stretches back over 20 years!

The whole point of exclusivity deals is competitiveness on platforms and ecosystems that are jockeying for dominance. PC as an ecosystem just *is*. The release of a single title is inevitably a drop in the ocean, so its not a thing that can or needs to be protected against.

Yeah, I suppose it's just a coincidence that Nioh 2 launched ~12 months later on PC and Nioh 1 ~6 months later.

The salt in this thread, oh man.

Publishers need to release games for every platform if they want to be profitable. And for those posters laughing at releasing this title, or any other, on XBOX claiming it's dead you should keep in mind this is not about releasing on XBOX Series but the XBOX platform, PC, Cloud, Portable devices such as Steam Deck or ROG/Lenovo/MSI, not to mention the next XBOX console.

But I know, console warring over and over
you realize it's coming to Steam Day 1 right?

Fucking lol at the: "Vertical stand sold separately" out of nowhere.
They have to have it based on the image otherwise advertising standards would be all over them for false advertising.
Is there any other home console?

LOL
This is a formality. May not even get ported to others for a while just like the FF7 exclusivity was formally 6 months but became more than that. Whether Koei care to do it after is up to them.

I would rather someone write a couple of lines why they think its good.

Far more interesting than metacritic.

Even if they are talking about something like Concord. I have seen a few people praise certain aspects of it, which is believable.

Depends, I guess, on what is being asked. Seemed like he was inquiring about general consensus rather than individual perspectives to me though.

Who owns the IP rights to Nioh? I'm guessing KT still retains the IP ownership, similar to Ninja Gaiden even though they were published by Xbox.

So KT brought Ninja Gaiden to PlayStations via Sigma versions, they could do something similar to bring the whole trilogy to Xbox.

Keep in mind, Wo Long launched Day 1 on Gamepass, same with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Remake, and of course Ninja Gaiden 4.

KT wants that Gamepass moneybag 💰. They could put 1 on Gamepass, while 2 remains on sale, then put 2 on Gamepass while 3 is released. Easy $100 million for KT between all three games on Gamepass.

$100mil, the jokes keeps writing itself. Co-Pilot is failing you.

Not really, there are costs associated with porting a game to each platform and to publishing it. The more platforms, the more time and money is required for a studio and publisher to spend.
If a platform has a smaller player base, that means there is a greater risk of not seeing a return on investment.

There is also the issue with a loss of opportunity. A team has limited resources, be it manpower and time.
More platforms means more less time dedicated to polishing each platform.
So publishing a game on a platform with fewer players, means less time polishing and improving the game on the platforms that have more players.
And a more polished game tends to sell more.

Games need exposure to build a user base, this is achieved by releasing it to existing platforms because you need them to reach everyone. Costs today are not as high as they were back in the 00s in the PS2 era, ports are not that expensive and the ROÍ is higher.

Today exclusives are are a bad business decision because you don't want a check preventing you to get a buffers user base, it's a short term benefit that will punish your business

A small platform provides little exposure.

And Nioh isnt really an exclusive. Its day one on PC.

These things are decided years before the game releases. This deal was probably made right after Nioh 2 even probably.

Others have pointed that out in the thread, as well. Very well may be the case. Regardless, hopefully these deals will dry up. Timed exclusives need to just go away.

So what do you think KT would get for the entire trilogy on Gamepass? Give a number, what you think they should get vs what they could get.

It's just a waste of money. Sony could better put that money toward funding new games or getting those games on PS+ Premium Day 1 or shortly after.

You're not getting a million sales on xbox. You think ms will fork over 50mil for 1 new game and 2 old games? Delusional.

Don't really care about what Sony (or Microsoft for that matter) does with the money when they make these timed exclusive deals. Just stop paying money to keep third party games off other platforms. It's just a shitty practice.

Do you mean +30m user base platform has little exposure, not counting gamers on PC/Portable Devices? lol

Most PC gamers use Steam. Not Xbox.
30 million users are not all active, and not all are interested in the same games.
This would nit the first game to not release on xbox because the user base is much smaller.

Actually Nioh was released 9 months later, but either way it proves absolutely nothing.

The key thing is the absence of Kou Shibusawa. Yes its just another of the many Koei/Tecmo business units but its presence indicates a connection running back to when it was still planned as an adaptation of the unproduced Kurosawa script.

That's the commonality with recent TN releases, not Sony. Sony co-funded Rise Of The Ronin and that was day#1 on PC too (but never on Xbox).

On the other hand, Wo Long ended up on GamePass and is essentially a modded version of Nioh, but you'll find no Kou Shibusawa branding on it start-up logo either.

They may port Nioh 3, as again Kou Shibusawa is no longer credited as producer, but to be honest I doubt they'll bother.

No it wasn't. That was also 1 year later. I think it's pretty obvious that Sony paid for timed exclusivity of the Nioh games and Rise of Ronin, but the price of keeping games off Steam became too much when big Japanese games like MHW sold more on Steam than Ps5. If you disagree, alright you're entitled to your opinion. Guess we'll never know unless there's a leak.

The final lesson to be learned is that review scores mean jack shit.

I stand corrected about Ronin (I forgot I didn't get around to playing until it was out on PC). But I do stand by the Kou Shibusawa connection because of the situation with Wo Long, which I suspect sold like shit on Xbox.

Sony have nothing to do now with 3rd Nioh. Koei alone is the publisher of the 3rd one now. It is obvious

Sony doesn't need to be the publisher though. They can just pay for the timed exclusivity like they've done with numerous other 3rd party games in the past.

it's hilarious when they are trying to lock other console from this game, like xbox literally giving up a fight and what other console on market right now that can run this game, feel like someone has too many money and they just throw it away
