Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

No news about post launch content like a merc mode is a real bummer. This game deserves it :(
How soon did they announce the RE7 DLC? It's not the same team but Ghost Survivors for RE2 and Mercs for RE4 came out like two weeks later. Really do hope there's something but a lot of the enemies in the game don't really fit Mercs and the level design is sort of lacking to be used for Mercs too.

I'm pretty sure that not only is Mercenaries coming but that it's already done and will be a free title update within the next month. Absolutely should have been included from the start because the truth is by the time it comes I will have long moved on from Requiem, way too many other things to play with so much more on the horizon.

Anyway, about to wrap up my Insanity playthrough, good times 👌

So, what PC settings are yall running? I got a 5090, 9800x3d with 64gb of RAM here. Trying to get to at least 120 FPS. And no, I didn't get the new Nvidia driver that just dropped (595.71).

Anyone else raised an eyebrow when they saw
The zombie BSAA troopers look like they were dead for months? I mean the infected in the care center looked in much better shape. Raccoon City civilians look appropriate in that level of decay, but the BSAA troopers' faces should look like the hospital staff's.

I finished it last night. I've been kind of bouncing around games losing interest pretty quickly lately. This one had me wanting to play and get through it really quickly because it is that good. 10/10 experience for me. The low point would be the longer part that starts Leon's campaign, but it was still fun. I really enjoyed Grace's campaign and how it played like a classic game. The zombies all having their own personalities is a nice touch. Sounds design and graphics are amazing.

I'd rank the games RE2+Remake > Re1Remake > RE9 > RE3 (PS1) > RE4 > RE8 > RE5 > RE7 >RE6 (only one I didnt finish)

Tbf civilian zombies shouldnt even be a thing in RC, its 28y later, their bodies should have decayed long ago.

Four playthroughs cemented what I said after I was 5 hours into my *first* playthrough: this is a top 3 RE title. I'm actually redownloading Village now which I thought was very good but not nearly as good as 7, mostly want to play it in 3rd person though, never went back to it after that update released. Tempted to replay 7 and RE2R too, not likely in the short term but if there is a dry spell sometime this year maybe.

It's not gonna happen with how successful this game is, but I'm ready to move on from the current RE engine style of Resident Evil. RE7 and RE2R were a welcome reinvention, but at this point it feels like I've seen everything in Requiem a dozen of times already. We're now at the same point in time when the original pre-rendered concept and also the original action run of RE had concluded in favor of new gameplay.
That's where I'm at. It feels like "Resident Evil Remix"

And it's all good stuff - some greatest hits even, but I've listened to this album a few thousand times in the past 5 years. It's hard to give proper credit where it's due bc I've done this all before.

Definitely time for another switch-up. I want to see them try their hand at dropping 90% of the supernatural elements - save them for the last act.

Some will cry blasphemy but it excites me to see big swings. Put a little Condemned flavor in there, turn the puzzles into investigations, and let me track down a killer in a city that looks like the opening act of this game, until - yes - zombies (almost shockingly) show up in the climax:

"Resident Evil …x….Exposure"

That's my elevator pitch.

Premise: play as a seasoned detective hunting down a serial killer
in a dank city. Ride the line between natural and supernatural.

Enemy types: knife wielding maniacs big and small, circus freaks (use your imagination), pit bulls, corrupt police officers, armed special forces, a literal ghost, and at one point a crazed bull. Oh, and of course zombies but they're actually frightening again bc your palate has been cleansed.

Why "Exposure"?: I had to sell the marketing dept on the game. Tenth game in the series (X Roman numeral). So let's add a camera/photo mechanic. That's what leads to the eventual ghost section of the game and is a core part of the puzzle experience. Boom.

Papito how is the insanity mode? Very difficult? I am thinking to replay the game in this mode

So uh, what the hell happened to this game after
Raccoon City? We arcade shooter now? What about those terrible set pieces with amateurish animations of the bike and what not? Gain points to kill zombies and collect rewards? Also, the graphics are so bad now?! What is this nonsense?

Wow! It's like the game went from a 9 to 6.

Is it that difficult?

It can get a bit unfair. It's kind of like RE3 Remake's Inferno difficulty, enemies are all basically 1 hit kills on you and you start seeing the stronger enemies way earlier and way more.

Eg the first Leon segment in Wrenwood has multiple very fast Blisterhead zombies.

I finished that spider fight and just turned the game off when i got to the mini "mercenaries" mode

Really enjoyed everything else up to that point tho.

Your pitch sounds like a completely different game. And you'll probably get your wish once these games stop selling gangbusters ... which doesn't seem to be anytime soon. But the 'one RE game per year' approach may actually cause saturation. We'll see.

So without infinite ammo it would be too hard then? Oof thats a bummer man

I'm sure there will be folks who will stream "Insanity with knife only" type stuff eventually but I'm not about to spend hours butting my head against that kind of difficulty, lol.

Highly recommend getting at least infinite ammo + revolver but ideally infinite RPG will get it done without too much hassle plus it's amusing one-shotting every boss lol.
That sounds like piss poor effort at making difficulty balanced. It shouldn't require "cheats". RE7 madhouse and RE4R pro all were perfectly playable on higher difficulty.

Finally finished my first run. I took my damn time (just over 12 hours) and loved every second of it. Best mainline non-remake RE since 4, and this is coming from someone who is rather fond of 7.

Can't wait to start up my second run tonight.

I wanted to replay the game with different enemy placement and maybe even more challenge but I am reading that Insanity is just unfair without infinite ammo. Oh well. I guess I'll replay the game in normal classic

I dont understand why they didn't add a difficulty in between normal and insanity

I'd argue it's no more an overall leap from the formula than going from tank controls to third person action.

But it is a leap and that's the point. I do think by the third act, the first time you see someone you shoot actually get back up, there's potential for a "holy shit this is RE" moment in a powerful way. We need to make zombies scary again.

I'm sure it would all lead back to Umbrella anyway. They were probably responsible for the circus freaks too.

But your opinion is totally valid, thanks for humoring it.

Never said it wasn't possible, just gave my recommendation, I've done harder things in other games. Personally I feel I earned my "cheats" by speedrunning the game in 2h39 minutes without guides lol.

Just finished it. Amazing game. Felt truly epic with tons of environments / places to explore. I think this a meaty campaign , maybe a nudge shorter than RE4. It took me 15 and a half hours to complete. I know I tend to explore without rushing too much.. but saying that this is a 10 hour campaign sounds insane to me . People are playing these games the wrong way... LOL.

Here's the deal of why you could perceive some mixed reactions from this game: In the 1st half of this game you are going to be playing maybe the best looking game of the last few years, Its jaw dropping. Then you get to the top part of the 2nd half of the game and the visuals take a nosedive that you can really feel. Its like you jump from an incredible looking PS5 game to an average looking PS4 game. To me it feels like they ran out of money or time and had to finish that part before a final art pass throughout that map. However it definitely picks up again visually in the bottom part of the 2nd half.

But if you overlook the visual downgrade of that section, you realize that the gameplay, level design and pacing is still superb.

Play this game and stick to the standard camera perspectives (Grace in 1st person, Leon in 3rd person).

Can someone explain this thing I've been thinking about during Leon's section. Why in Raccoon City are some zombie heads changing into the red head things? I thought those only occur due to Gideon's made virus? They would have never even had that considering they've been thought to be dead for 25+ years.

As much as I did love this game the first time through, it suffers on replayability. Slow intro, slow little girl walking sim halfway through. No proper NG+ yet and the unlockable weapons are just a bit meh.
I think its time they let this Director make his own cinematic horror franchise that he wants to make and let the Remake 2 and 4 devs take over.
I'm sure for some that's gonna be a hot take but replayability is where RE games shine for me and 7 8 and 9 just haven't hit the mark imo.

Nope, I don't like 1st person combat in RE games and there are section in Grace segment that made me glad I chose 3rd person perspective.

To me telling choose 1st person is like telling me "hey do you want to make the gameplay worse for no reason?"

lmao, if you throw a glass bottle into a wall and there is a normal zombie and the noise sensitive one near each other, both go check it out and the one that is sensitive to noise will start hitting the other one :messenger_tears_of_joy:

getting a little bit annoyed... I'm stuck at the bulldozer... killed about everything and looked in every room

I know I need the lungs inside the garage to put inside the body that I put the heart into, and I imagine the bracelet is the level two door access... but I just can't get out of the garage

I'm probably gonna have to Google it, but i'm gonna take a break before I lose patience... maybe give everything one more good look over later

Fair. Imagine that suggestion was not meant for you.

Two handgun bullets. One breaks the glass, the other kills the driver. Then stand back.

She rarely makes live play through of games. Mostly if its just RE. I cant wait for Peachy milky live stream playthrough of Re9 coming up March 3.

add nothing to the series = revived the series

RE was pretty much done after 5 - 6, Capcom lost their mojo and the franchise was mocked for the "Michael Bay" level of insanity action, RE7 brought RE back to scary and survival horror BUT, ppl were too soft and too scared by the game and that was the reason given to make RE8 more action oriented. Also RE8 links to RE lore in general.

Also 7 and 8 are great games for starting and ending a fucking story line, not taking 30 years and we are still on T-Virus Umbrella shenanigans, i ll die and not see the end of RE og story line.
While critics disliked the action-heavy era, the market told a different story. The massive sales of RE6—and the fact that its remaster moved another 4–5 million units—proves the series wasn't 'dying' or in need of a rescue. Data suggests a traditional RE7 would have sold just as well.
The real direction defining moment wasn't RE7; it was RE2 Remake. If you look at RE Requiem (and Village before it), the foundation, vibe, and mechanics lean heavily into the RE2/RE4.
RE7 provide a shift to less action oriented horror, but its 'grindhouse' run-and-hide style has largely been phased out in favor of the polished RE2/RE4 Remake style that actually defines the modern era. RE7 was a successful experiment, but it was more of a tonal 'reset' than the permanent blueprint for the franchise, when it comes to RE Requiem and the future of the series
The two pillars displayed here are definitely RE2/RE4.

ugh, i'm glad I read your post

I tried with the Requiem. I tried with a couple clips of handgun bullets, and while I was able to break the glass, I just was never able to hit him.

I was gonna look for some fucking bazooka or some shit. I don't even know what I was looking for. I would've wasted a lot of time.

I'll try that again when I get back home later. ❤️

Try to have at least 3-4 Requiem rounds when you have the heart and the lungs. Things are about to get ... chaotic.

1st person can make things more tense(when things are in your face up close) but overall I think 3rd person overall is the way to go. Especially when it comes to Leon combat/finishers where it hotswaps to 3rd person anyway in addition I feel like not only do you see more of what's around you but I feel you can move and maneuver faster as opposed to 1st person mode.

And melee combat is definitely much better in 3rd person mode as well.
