Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Is the character of Victor Gideon ever mentioned at all in the older games or is he brand new? His name sounds familiar but I'm probably just losing my mind. Also, having him be associated with
Zeno/Wesker
doesn't help lol

So if I grab all ink ribbons for Grace I cant find anothers ones for Leon?

I thought the Grace parts where the only ones using ink ribbons.

Went to a save spot and I cant save for now, so I assume Leon needs this too? 😂
Leon doesn't use ink to save, only Grace does….Leon uses computer to save.

maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I don't think you use the typewriter as Leon... I think there's just hardcoded save spots and then the computer later.

He's brand new.

The presentation of Leon's shop upgrades screen is shit.

Not helped by the jaggy low-res presentation of all the item closeups in the game but the staggered layout makes navigation awkward and camera auto panning around upgrade parts makes it hard to appreciate the before/after appearance. It's so zoomed in sometimes you can't even see the part fully.

I think it is familiar because it is a rather generic bad guy name. I like the character and the voice acting, so I'm not critical of the character... however, when I heard the name, it just felt like a B-movie villain name.

Made it to the mines.

Leon's parts are much easier to play. He is damn OP.

Grace is where the real survival horror lies. At least for now.

But so far I really like the rythme they've came up with to switch characters.

tbh even the Inventory screens of all the mainline entries since 7 have been shit.
The black/white film negative look isn't aesthetic.

Just finished my second playthrough. It was fun having all the guns and everything fully upgraded so early on and playing on casual made everything a breeze.

Currently at 42/50 trophies. Somehow my retarded ass still missed two of the bobbleheads... I also really should have used that playthrough as a chance to do the no healing/blood playthrough so now I'm in a spot where if I want to go for the platinum, I have to do a stressful speedrun for the 4-hour trophy AND another slower playthrough on casual for the heal/blood and idk if 4 playthrough in such a short time is good for me as I think I'm just gonna get burnt out especially with that speedrun.

Now in my defense if I had ever even thought I would want to get the platinum I would have planned it better. I just didn't expect to love this game so much. It's one of the GOTG for me honestly.

Seems to run ok in 30fps on my ancient PC, surprisingly. But not feeling in the mood for a Resi atm so putting it off. Probably after new PC build. Performance might still go to shit in the later/Leon bits anyway, though I imagine the initial intro scene with the pedestrians is a decent benchmark.
Get an premium account with Geforce Now and run it off that same ancient PC, it'll run amazingly. Geforce Now is something magical, if you have high speed internet.

If it helps I managed to do the 4 hour speedrun and the no heals/no blood in one go. It's definitely doable, especially on casual!

I don't mind the minimal, lineart menus of the RE Engine games from VII onwards even if it's missing some of the intimate early-CG-texture of the early games up to CV and 0/1 on GC.

I quite like the glassy menu effects they added in RE9 except when it introduces obvious greyscale banding.

Wish it was a bit smarter about mixing green herbs for example. If you've got a G+G already combined and then mix it into a G+G+G it should replace the position of the existing vial instead of plonking it in the top-left most slot like a new pickup.

This is my preferred manual layout. Pistol/magnum ammo should probably be reversed.

Why can't you do the no recovery item on the same as the 4 hour run?

Question....

Is it best to kill the Cook now as Grace or wait as Leon?

He drops the pantry key, the pantry has a few buckets of bullet and a charm that increases knife durability + damage.

It's more useful to kill him as Grace, IMO.

I mean I probably can (I know I can) but after playing through the game twice in a week with the second playthrough being back-to-back within 24 hours I just don't know if I have it in me right now. I just assume it would be easier to fly through when I know I can pop a med to get out of a sticky situation.

I think what I'm going to do is go back and play Resident Evil 4. Despite being a huge RE fan I've never actually played 4. When I was a kid I remember thinking it wasn't a "real" RE game and I hated it without ever even trying it. I think it was a combination of being salty it was on the GC, and just not having zombies as the primary enemy type. Looking back I was being a little elitist retard.

Well, your mileage may vary, but for me I think it feels a bit too hemmed in/on rails to feel like it won't be exactly the same every time.

That might just be a me thing though, and as I said I'm still early on in it.
I apologize lol you may have been right. The second half of this game, particularly raccoon city, kind of dragged for a bit. Enough for me to not look forward to it when I do go back for a speed run. Care center was definitely the highlight. All in all still a great game.

.Also, if you don't kill the first Chunk as Grace, he despawns. I left him because I wanted to get more points as Leon and have a second mini boss encounter. Super annoyed he was just missing.

I got two Chunks on my latest casual game; used injectors on the first one in the clinic, and thought maybe there wouldnt be one for Leon. But there was, so I got 2 Chunks lol.

Btw Chunks AI was seriously easier than the the one standard classic. Casual Chunk stood in the same place for ages, and moved real slow around the attic space. On standard classic he was way more aggressive.

I'm not sure about this one but the other remake titles have some mechanic where you kind of heal up over time from danger and also heals during certain cutscenes that made it pretty easy to get through those on the easier difficulties, I'm trying it right this moment because like you I just want to knock them all out but I'm only going to be on my second playthrough at this time.

Enjoy four, it's excellent.

The Chunk fight with Leon on insanity is...insanity. I wonder if you can brick yourself if you bought the wrong stuff beforehand.

Best way to get Platinum? Did first play though on Standard Modern and miss collectible. Should I do casual play through to get missing collectibles, speed run for no heals, and no blood collectibles?

Yeah, I believe casual run for no heals and no blood should be the easiest way to scoop those. As far as collectible, probably fine to lop those into that run also since they are quick and easy, plus on casual much more durable if you just need to run though some areas.

That's what I'm doing. Then afterwards when all is unlocked, run through insanity.

Boy are you in for the adventure of a lifetime!

Played the Grace intro. Its adequate for a resident evil, the graphics are nice and atmosphere suitably creepy in the hotel. Not as good as Re7 intro though I have to say. Capcom was on another level with that.

Yes, casual gets you health regen to yellow caution when in red, best way to do the no herb (and also no blood and time attack).

If you've previously unlocked infinite ammo, it becomes a cakewalk. Otherwise you get a shit ton of points from completing the above mentioned challenges, enough to get the infinite ammo and RPG for Leon for the Insanity run.

For the achievement of not using the blood thing, does that mean don't collect blood or don't craft anything or what? Also, does getting one of the upgrades for her health count as using a healing item? I'm thinking it would since it full heals you as well.

1.110 just dropped on PS5....no clue on what the update does

Downloading now, 2.07GB on Xbox.

Don't pick up any blood, you can just ignore the blood injector altogether, it has no impact on the game.

And I haven't tried it myself but I've read elsewhere that using the Steroid injector does *NOT* void the no-healing.

That is so weird since it definitely heals you. Interesting, thanks. I will just put blood collector in the item box. I'm very nervous about accidentally hitting R1 at some point in healing but I guess I can always just reload.

Standard Modern and unlock everything you can. Then do casual no heal/no blood and clean up any collectibles you missed (use a guide if needed as some documents can be tricky, same with Raccoons). If you don't have a ton of collectibles to grab you can do some save scumming to do optimal routing to grab collectibles and complete objectives quick so you can get the speedrun achievement (under 4 hours) as well. If not you'll need to do a speedrun (probably on casual) to get that one but with the previous challenges you can unlock infinite ammo and roll everything. Finally do a run on Insanity with infinite ammo and infinite ribbons and that should be it. Other than the "no blood" run make sure you're collecting/using plenty of blood with Grace as there's one challenge to collect 5000 blood across all your runs.

It's worth noting that collecting a Raccoon statue is always saved so you can grab those and reload/restart an older save if it takes too much time to locate one.

Did the latest update fix the shimmering issue caused by ray tracing? I'm playing right now and the image seems cleaner, without the weird distortion on walls and whatnot. Could be placebo idk.

Anyone come across items that have no immediate use? Usually when an item is used up it gets auto discarded, but I've found a few I can't find a use for. One is a notebook that has clues but for a previous puzzle but for some reason is an item that wasn't discarded. Another is an hourglass with some code on it. And another is a severed hand that gave me a code when I examined it under the microscope.

Yep. The hourglass is connected to an optional puzzle challenge that no one has worked out. The end solution has been datamined and is all over the internet, but how the hourglass actually fits in to the solving of it is still unknown. Unless there was a recent breakthrough I'm not aware of.

The hand and notebook - probably also connected to it, but nobody seems to know.

Ok now i understand the criticism for the boss fight, just beaten baldy and althought the cool factor was there, the boss fight is beyond easy and you have way too much space to move.

Maybe you watch the hourglass to time the 15 min?

Unequipping the scope from sniper rifles is something I should have done immediately. Makes them actually usable in combat. And it still works for sniping.

There is an inscription on the bottom inside of the hourglass that shows up if you turn it upside down and let the top chamber be emptied. The text there part of the solution for The Final Puzzle.

The notebook is there to guide you to the office with the only working puzzle box. To make you question why you found it there.

The hand is also a flag for the puzzle in terms of the double helix DNA code at the bottom of the Lets Play image when you scan the hand.

I finished the game, and I'd give it an 8 or 8.5.

The pre-RC parts are 9/9.5. The latter half brings it down.

Part of the problem is that the game doesn't feel like I, as a player, am building off of knowledge and skill that came before since the gameplay and level designs change so often. Plus, the inventiveness and novelty of things in the first half (the Girl's design, the zombie-to-zombie interactions, the wild swing in gameplay style from Grace to Leon, etc.) drops off in the latter half.

For a strained analogy, this game is like getting a Greatest Hits album from an electronic artist, where every song is a decent remix of songs I like. It's not coherent or that original as an album, but it is good fan service.

I feel much the same

For the first half of the game I was convinced it would be the best RE of all time even though I didn't care much for Grace as a character, but as you say the second half it's quite the drop off. I feel like they wanted to do a lot more but decided to save it for DLC's to milk us. It's a tale as old as time.

RE4R still remains the best because it was a fully faithful and fleshed out product of a different time, where DLC's were not a thing and the package felt complete and well designed end to end.

I bought RE4R gold edition on pc after finished this and playing through the DLC. I must say, when it comes to gameplay and combat, RE4R is still unmatched. I just miss DLSS and path tracing. Wish they could just "patch in" PT support for this one :(

So leon has a different save room music. I didnt know because the first time I played with the old school OST.

This one is actually better than Graces in my opinion

There is a mod for path tracing on re framework.
