I honestly don't think they will push for game exclusivity. They're definitely not going to do it for third party games, better to pay publishers to get games on Gamepass than timed exclusivity.Exclusives will play a pretty big role in combination with free online.
Fair enough. If a hybrid meets his needs then the XPC (or whatever they end up calling it) will be perfect for him.I dunno.. a dude at work said he was waiting to buy a console cuz he heard the next Xbox would be a hybrid…anecdotal…
Its not mine.Your entire argument falls apart because you assume it'll be a 'more expensive PC'. Meanwhile it'll likely be a device that can play PC games, for a cheaper price than a similarly specced PC
At the same time, it doesn't make sense to look at it in the lens of the usual console market since it's not going to be priced as a subsidized device for mainstream sales.
Finally, access to PC games means - for the console crowd - it does have access to PC exclusives.
The ability to run nearly everything is specifically why many would want the Xbox.
These dumb motherfuckers keep focussing on performance. How many times do they need to learn this lesson?
It's the only thing that never worked for them so of course they are.

But regardless, can they deliver it?
SteamOS is miles away from what Microsoft can do it atm.
Can you play Fortnite on steamOS?Its not mine.

Not sure what this has to do with personal attacks - XBox has been inviting criticism of this type for years before this CEO, and years prior to the last one.Isn't it too early to enter into 'bitch eating crackers' mode?
Helix will eat the Steam Machine for breakfast. Can you play Fortnite on steamOS?
Can you play COD on steamOS?
Can you play FIFA on steamOS?
They've been talking about supporting other PC stores for a while now.
Is that why Epic already confirmed their store will be on the next Xbox?
www.windowscentral.com
Microsoft has never officially confirmed that and they still haven't here is what I'm saying.
No, Epic stated it as if there was still some doubt.
"We've been talking to the folks at Microsoft. If they do follow through with allowing Steam and the Epic Games Store on the next generation of Xbox console hardware, we will be there. I'm fairly certain that'll require us to build an app that functions there."

Epic Games Store could land on next Xbox as talks with Microsoft continue
We recently caught up with Epic Games Store VP and GM Steve Allison to learn about how the platform is going in a gaming world increasingly dominated by Steam.www.windowscentral.com
news.xbox.com
Sarah Bond: "Not locked to a single store."
Lisa Su: "open platform" regards to the portfolio of devices.
"We definitely plan to be on the new hardware for Xbox, because, unless their policy or stance on it changes, they are telling us they're going to welcome that," said Allison. "And we're going be there, like, on day one. That will probably require us to build in whatever their requirements are, some sort of software to support that."

Xbox and AMD: Advancing the Next Generation of Gaming Together - Xbox Wire
This week, Xbox announced it is actively building its next-generation lineup across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories. Find out more inside.news.xbox.com
How much more clear do they need to get? It's confirmed in multiple of ways. Also Sarah "it will work similarly to the Asus Xbox Ally."
I edited. There's a second quote from the head of Epic Store that's different from what you posted. That one makes it clear as day.The Rog Xbox Ally is simply a Windows PC. If that is what the next "console" is then fine, but that's part of what needs to be cleared up. Is it a closed ecosystem console with multiple stores or just a PC. I've heard both.
How much more clear do they need to get? A lot.

It will be similar to the Xbox Ally in spirit and concept, even if they use a UI designed for TVs. Bootloader will be locked though, and the desktop may be behind Developer Mode.

The moment it supports Steam, your question becomes moot
It could be a "closed system" only if it was locked to MS store
And that is impossible because they know PC gamers don't buy games on anything but Steam
I'm just not making any assumptions at this point. Hopefully things will be clearer at GDC
One of my friends at a Sony dev wants to buy it bc he wants a gaming PC. He's a Mac guy. LOLFair enough. If a hybrid meets his needs then the XPC (or whatever they end up calling it) will be perfect for him.
For many people, it's hard to fathom why MS would allow other stores or get rid of online multiplayer. Also MS sells its own games on Steam already, so there's really no point to lock it down to MS store
To be fair, Series S was a great idea, but MS fucked up with RAM count. I expected 10GB for devs. We got 8GB instead...The same people that told us that Series S was a great idea, now are telling us that a fake console, that is actually a mini PC, sold for $1200+, is a great idea….

How can anyone trust anything most of these companies say especially Xbox brass?I admit.....I'm being very hard-headed about all of this.HeisenbergFX4 can attest to that. I'd say I have good reason. These are the same people who tried to tell the world that a gotdang phone was an "Xbox". Same folks who slapped their "Xbox" logo on a Windows PC handheld and insisted it was an "Xbox". Now Microsoft is saying this multi-store device that sounds awfully like just another PC is actually a "console". Sorry, but Microsoft has cried wolf too many times to take their words at face value, in my mind.
I've said before, I don't listen to what Microsoft says for this very reason (among others). When they show what this actually is then I'll know. Until then, I'll be stubborn, and maybe even a little pedantic. That's on Microsoft.
"Just four games"
I just dont see any way that Nadella greenlights an Xbox pc that doesnt have some type of mandatory monthly subscription. Everything Microsoft does these days is all about perpetual recurring revenue streams.I admit.....I'm being very hard-headed about all of this.HeisenbergFX4 can attest to that. And if it's a pc who pays for the online to play the games?because the hardware wont be sold at a loss
The possible losses due to people opting to purchase from other pc storefronts won't be recovered via hardware profit.because the hardware wont be sold at a loss
Well what better time to join the PC family than with modern day WindowsOne of my friends at a Sony dev wants to buy it bc he wants a gaming PC. He's a Mac guy. LOL
Xbox was dying anyhow to people doing this very thing, leaving the platformThe possible losses due to people opting to purchase from other pc storefronts won't be recovered via hardware profit.
His right.
Allowing steam on this they could end up losing people to steam.
Microsoft as a company isn't big on hardware they are a software company, if they lose a significant number of people to steam they end up as hardware provider for other pc storefronts. Don't think they will be happy with that.
Even worse steam is starting to push steam os in various ways, so those customers who start moving over to steam could end up even avoiding windows all together if valve start pushing steam machine even harder with better specs.
Another car crash of a gen incoming for Xbox.
Xbox was dying anyhow to people doing this very thing, leaving the platform
This is very much a Hail Mary
Since the Xbox console's power stopped with the Series X, this next console could still produce exclusives for the Series X which oughtta be more cost effective and quicker to produce than trying to compete with the next gen heavy hitters.
You've said the plan is still multiple stores. Have you heard whether Valve was onboard with this?
who pays now?And if it's a pc who pays for the online to play the games?
no way this will be $1k. that's steamboat price.Wait, wait... are people really BUYING the idea of a 1000 usd console to make XBOX great again??? And exclusive games?? Am I reading correctly??
If they manage to link it up with steam, its a win for XBOX.
Personal advice:
Moderate your expectations with Microsoft
