Sony hikes up PS5 pricing in April: PS5 – $649.99, PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99 PS5 Pro – $899.99, Portal $249.99

If you don't live under a rock than yes it is to be expected. When certain components in the device have triple or quadrupled in price sooner or later you're going to have to pay for it. Companies are not going to sell at a loss.

Sony sold both PS4 and PS5 at loss, where the heck you guys came from? lol

I was expecting a price increase for the console (eventually everyone will), but so soon? Didn't they say they had RAM for this year last month... they've killed all the PS5 momentum with these prices.

lol single best thing I did was to give my PS5 away and go full PC, the gap in prices between a decent PC or even a gaming laptop vs PS5 Pro is just so small and a console is just a console, it plays that's it. A PC/laptop on the other hand can do everything and anything.

Best decision to ditch console gaming, while PC (RAM/GPU) prices are going high, I still don't care because it's still is a great investment for it will lasts longer and play much much better.

Can someone explain what led to this price increase? Ram shortage or Tarrifs or ongoing war? The price was already increased from $499 to $549.

I guess both. Ram shortage for AI is my main guess, but again Sony already increase prices before for reasons I forgot.

Companies sell at the lost most of the early times of a console. The nerve to ask if someone live under a rock.

Nobody is buying this shit in our economy, not even the base digital model.

Thats my point. I don't think people would buy a PS5 in the condition the world is right now.

Sony will end up facing the same problem Nintendo is having with NS2.

Probably they have seen projections on where the prices are going... It's gonna get worse......

"cos of the war bro!"

There's never been a war during a console gen before.

Sony have a series of GAAS flops that they need YOU to cover, have no competition, and are greedy.

RAM situation could get better soon

My brother this is not about RAM prices anymore, it's about oil and energy costs!

Oil is spiking hard nowadays, and that means factories have to spend far more money for their electricity, which adds price pressure on the manufacturing side.

You also need oil to make the plastic parts too.

We're not even mentioning things like cost of Aluminum for heatsinks (Bahrain and UAE are two of the biggest exporters of it).

Although Sony has a long history of doing anti-consumer things, this one is not their fault.
You can blame, Nvidia, OpenAI, Google, Claude, TSMC, Grok, Meta, and all the tech companies using up all the chips for nand and dram, to make AI servers.
I think anyone who is sensible knows this already.
You're not going to stop certain people using this crap news as a prime chance to platform war and concern troll.
You only have to read some of the post here to see that.

All I know is I'm thinking should I buy a switch 2 now and stop holding off.....

Go fuck yourself. Do some research before spewing shit

Better be a fanboy than a brainwashed dumbass.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Eurogamer has heard from well-placed sources that Sony expects to make an approximate $60 loss per $399 unit sold. When presented with the figure, Ito denied it - but only because the company expects a typical user to buy a console with these other items.

When the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013 it was sold at a loss. However Sony said it would recoup the loss by selling a game and a PlayStation Plus subscription. Sony has now announced that it is now selling each PlayStation 4 at a profit.

PS6 launch price is so cooked.

Nintendo needs to do whatever the hell they can to hold at $450 because that's the only thing that will sustain Switch 2 sales.

Sony lost the fucking plot with $900 Pro.

IT'S ALL OVER!!!! :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The PS6 minimum price will now be $1,000. Gaming is screwed. No way the system can survive these price hikes. It's literally no possible.

And even the RAM hopium is just about a bunch of stock guys misreading the tech at hand lol.

Everything is expensive. Fab prices plus dram demand. This was bound to happen. I predict 800 dollar ps6 next. Helix will be over 1000 bucks.

If less people are buying consoles, less games will be made in general. A market shrinking will only increase game prices as well. Stuff like this has a rippling effect.

In our current economic climate, luxuries go out the window and spending goes all to basic necessities.

Where we are fortunate though, is that there are enough games in existence today that can span several lifetimes.

So why is the price all other electronics going up too?

People do not understand that Google is not obligated to share this tech with anyone else, and could even use it to get more RAM and be able to squeeze out more performance out of their purchase lol.

I still trying to process all this. Some people are expecting to the most profitable generation ever to increase the price because of what is happening in the world.

Is Sony know what is going on around the world for people or Sony only know what is going on around the world for themselves?
Sony is a company; this has been its most profitable generation, but that profitability is actually seen as rather modest among technology companies.

Funniest thing that this algorithm is not even new, it's already in use for a full year now. It doesn't solve LLM RAM problem a bit.
