Do we actually think the video game market will crash? Serious question as well.
Where's the peer console, launching in the same price point, in the same market? No, we aren't talking about PC's, PC/console hybrids, or handhelds. I mean a high powered console, that sits under your TV/monitor. Where is that next gen? It doesn't exist. It's PS6 or bust. Helix is a PC hybrid, that will be at least a grand.Base PS5, Switch 2, PC, Helix, cellphone games, handhelds, etc. With the increased price everything else will become competition. If they don't have compelling exclusives people will stick with their PS5s and whatever else is out there. No one is going to pay premium for a console without exclusives.

Man, these shills are desperate to see Sony repeat every single mistake Microsoft made.
I bought the thing for 350 by exchanging the base console. At this rate, the PS6 is at least 50% off for me. Gaming is profitable!Pro already is 900$ with this price increase...
All of that is irrelevant. If they launch an expensive console without exclusives people will start looking for alternatives. It doesn't matter if the alternative means sticking with hybrids or handheld PCs or sticking with their Switch 2 or PS5, they just won't buy the new console. Exclusives are important especially when you are trying to convince customers to pay more for a product than they are used to.Where's the peer console, launching in the same price point, in the same market? Same friend, but he is now playing Sudden Strike 4 and has been playing it for over a year. He's trying to get every star on every single mission, it's insane. And he's turned down multiple games, multiple opportunities to buy new consoles, to continue to play this same game. Please tell me this is the same friend of yours that was playing Freedom Fighters exclusively? And that he is still playing it?
Many already have base ps5 except Japan,. But it turned off so many potential ps5 pro customers with this new prices.Sony is pricing themselves out of their own market.
Anyone who could afford at those prices already purchased one by now, and all those still gaming on a PS4 and were hoping for this generation to get cheaper are just screwed.
This is not how you get people to jump on PS5 now who haven't yet. They are just going to continue to stick with their PS4 consoles.
Oh wow. Well he must be playing that game on relatively modern hardware.Same friend, but he is now playing Sudden Strike 4 and has been playing it for over a year. Xbox One(not One X/S, Xbox One). He originally had it for PS4, played it for months, his save got corrupted. Then bought it again on an Xbox and started from scratch. You could put a brand new PS5 in front of him with 10 new games, he'd play one for 5 minutes, then go back to Sudden Strike 4.Oh wow. Well he must be playing that game on relatively modern hardware.
I think with the ps6 gen, they gotta let you use your old controllers. If they don't, its going to be a big L.Also controller and stand....
Ha, your friend takes the idea of comfort games to the extreme.Xbox One(not One X/S, Xbox One). He originally had it for PS4, played it for months, his save got corrupted. Maybe Nvidias pricing has desensitized me to this over the years, but 21 pages seems like an overreaction to a rather small price increase.

Wild. Pro was already hard for me to justify. Can afford it but that $1k price tag... I was holding out but will remain holding unless gta is waaaay better on pro.The updated Canadian recommended retail prices for PS5 consoles effective April 2, 2026:
•Standard – CAD $819.99 from current $649.99
•Digital – CAD $749.99 from current $579.99
•PS5 PRO – CAD $1,099.9 from current $959.99
•PlayStation Portal - CAD $319.99 from current $269.99
That is a really big price hike on each model.
Because it was their choice. Was it the obvious choice? Yes. But they aren't excused from corporate greed and backlash just because the economy is bad. I don't get to charge my place of work more money for my employment because of the economy. Why are you stating this like it's their choice???
You never understood the logic of getting the console for a lower price with better games? Every PlayStation in history dropped in price over time. This is a first where the price increases. You could have bought a PS3 in late 2006 for $600 and get a handful of options such as Heavenly Sword or waited until 2010 and get it for $400 along with options like GOWIII, Uncharted II, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, etc. In this case, waiting was a much smarter choice.I bought every Playstation Day 1 since 2007
Never understood the reason to wait for a price drop that might never happen
If you think the Steam Machine is gonna be $700 LOL$700 for a Steam machine is too bad of value versus a $500 PS5.
Gabe: OK, I'll wait.

Its to much. 20 or 50 could have been forgivable, but 100 is just bad. It might kill the momentum of ps5 pro and interest.$899 for PS5 Pro is steep
Tax refund? Go fix your W2 and stop giving the government an interest free loan every year.Never been so glad to have upgraded to PD5 Pro the month it launched. Got thecdisc drive too fof full versatility.
This is the weekend to spend those tax refunds to geg in on PS5 before these new prices go into effect!
When the PS5 was still $500, sure.If you think the Steam Machine is gonna be $700 LOL
$650 XSX, $400 XSS (512GB)Can't wait for all the posts in the future about how the ps5 would have outsold the PS4 at some point if it wasn't for those pesky price increases and memory shortages.
Seriously though. Where does this price the ps5 Vs the Series X and S now?
This whole industry right now:

OK. XBOX DEAD
Oh you don't see it? It's right there, buried deep in the hyperboleI think half your post is missing. Where is the profit?
No.Fixed
The writing was on the wall last gen. Sony only did one price drop on PS4--from $399.99 to $299.99--and that was only done with the launch of the PS4 Pro in order to make it more attractive. Xbox only lowered the price of XB1 by abandoning Kinect and trying to salvage the gen by pricematching Sony. That is kinda crazy cause I was hoping to one day get a ps5 cause the eventual price drops that happen. Turns out, this generation was the first to completely invert this lol

They designed this console two years ago and you say they didn't plan to release it in 2027? Give me a break...
If they delay it, it will be 6-12 months, not to fucking 2030 lol.
For $1,100 CAD, you can buy an LG B5 55" OLED right now at Best Buy or Costco. Same one is at Amazon for $1,000.The updated Canadian recommended retail prices for PS5 consoles effective April 2, 2026:

It's not going to crash - but it will likely consolidate around the people with money to spend.
If these prices stick around......YES!
