Crimson Desert sells 3 million

I think with the coming of Chinese and Korean Single Player AAA games, especially with how Wukong, Stellar Blade, and Crimson Desert were received by players, a lot of game reviewers and journalists should probably rethink how they approach playing these games. Because it's clear that these games don't cater to what a lot of Westerners value in games or what they perceive to be "correct" game design. But when you go back 20-30 years ago when gaming was in that highly experimental phase of gameplay design, so many fantastic games were made back then and paved the way to a lot of the popular genres we see today. I'm not saying CD doesn't have legit issues. It clearly does. But I think at this point conversations do need to happen regarding becoming more open minded towards foreign games that take a different approach to game design than what we're used to. Some people may need to go back to the 90s/Early 2000s mindset of stepping outside their comfort zone to try things they're not used to.

I think this is the kind of game people would be better off waiting until Fall/Winter Sales, because at the rate in which Pearl Abyss is churning out big patches, addressing feedback, not to mentioned planned updates, the game will probably be a substantially better experience to play later in the year.
Absolutely true. I think the only AAA Western game coming out in the near future (if you want to consider it AAA and not AA) is Lords of the Fallen 2. Every other AAA title that I'm even remotely interested in are all Asian, whether they be Japanese, Chinese, or South Korean.
  • Tides of Annihilation
  • Phantom Blade Zero
  • Onimusha
  • Pragmata
  • Vindictus: Defying Fate
  • Beast of Reincarnation
  • Ananta

Solid number, I did my part. Loving this game. It's so fucking big it got overwhelming at first, but then I flicked a switch to not care and just enjoy whatever I felt like doing. Been playing nearly non stop since.

This sounds like the best thing for me as well, lol.

It's Play Anywhere so I'll probably get the Helix/PC version whenever that comes out, fully patched and content'd up.
Buy it now at full price to support the devs. Then buy it again on Steam/Epic years later for the mods.

Ok so you're basically saying that GTA VI is guaranteed to be your personal GOTY when you posted that response?

Not only that but I think it wil literally blow any other game this year out of the water.

And it will stay that way for a long time, just as RDR2 is graphically not been surpassed (maybe until CD released).

Why are you guys so fucking obsessed with IGN man.

Those guys literally haven't been important in forever.

Do you actually have an issue with people criticizing IGN? Because that's all I've been seeing, and all I've been doing. Why are you so focused on stopping others from expressing their opinions on a gaming forum about a gaming-related organization? Is IGN your girl?

Crimson Desert ain't surpassed RDR2 it's a nice looking game but it's been over hyped as people do. Yes I agree GTA will wipe the floor with everything this generation.

AC Shadows destroys RDR2 when it comes to graphics.

CD looks better as well but it's too inconsistent.

Better off waiting for when GTA 6 is out? Nah, it's already awesome and the rest of the year is chock full of games. Plus any one of us could die tomorrow.

Also, that's like saying the same thing for any game. All games over time get patches. For the people playing and loving it, the patches are a bonus. A cherry on top of an awesome game. Once you play it it's hard to put down to wait for patches. I bet GTA 6 will be better 6 months after it comes out. Will people wait? Nope.

We don't know if GTA VI will be delayed again, and if it isn't then great. I can wait even longer for CD and it'll have probably another update/patch after GTA VI.

Not all games receive the same level of support as Crimson Desert is receiving, so no you can't say this about every game. The game has a lot of problems and Pearl Abyss has even acknowledged this. It's slated to get a bunch of updates, and there's a lot of QoL fixes planned to be rolled out that'll make certain aspects of the game less shitty. I can have my first experience be a pleasant one at $70, or I can have my first experience be an even more pleasant one at a discount. I can wait.

What do I have to be worried about? That I don't get to experience the game around the same time as a lot of other people? Who gives a shit.

Is the $120 million budget confirmed? Does that include marketing?

I don't think that includes marketing.

Gah damn...!

Who dat?

It's Toni Braxton sister, Tamar Braxton.

It has been ridiculous, but the absurdity of this fight has been because a lot of it entails folks who are playing the game defending it against people who are not. I don't understand why people who are not interested in the game and are not going to play it care so much. I don't get why this game is so divisive either. This game is as about as neutral as a game can be and yet lines have been drawn for some really bizarre reason. Don't get it.

Reminds me of people being irrational with their hate of Ghost of Yotei. These days people will go to war over a good game, that they personally don't like (while never playing it).

A good game actually selling and it happens to have an offline campaign as well….well done indeed and this game deserves all the credit it is getting. Also a breath of fresh air to see a game like this do well while shite like Highgaurd and Marathon aren't.

Good. Game is sitting at 85% on Steam, by the time updates are done, more content via mods or officially, it will eventually get up to 93-94%.

This could easily be a generational game like Witcher 3, will keep selling for 15 years.

Game only really needs a few tweaks, imo. Either way, obviously folks are enjoying the game far more than the early negativity would seem to indicate. Personally, I think a number of reviewers have egg on their face right now.

Too bad AC Shadows, like every UbiSoft world, is empty and lifeless in comparison to both.

CD was able to capture the "lived in/living world" magic that R* is known for.

Yeah, ACS has solid gameplay base and great graphics. Too bad nothing else was prioritized by Ubi...

That's precisely what I do. Double dip. Playing it on the Pro now where it looks and performs great, and will get it on the PC in the first Steam sale it's included for the even higher fidelity and mod goodness.

I'll be doing the same with GTA6, as I did with RDR2. But R* kind of forces us to wait a year for that, lol.

He and Jake Baldino (Gameranx) spent a good 40 minutes gushing over the game to Lucy James (Gamespot) in their podcast, who had no interest at all very like the other IGN and other people who reviewed it poorly. She described it as a kitchen sink game where the studio just threw whatever they found cool with disregard to game design and depth. Happy to see they hammered so much into her head that it wasn't like that beyond the story being bollocks that she was slightly interested by the end.

I greatly appreciate the efforts PA have made in improving the game post-launch, but I have to think that if a more known publisher released a title in a similar state, they'd get reviewed just as harshly and the social media sphere would pile on and ensure it never got a chance to recover.

The game had barely any bugs (compared to the likes of Bethesda or Ubisoft) and was playable without issues. The batch of patches are QoL improvements after feedback, which most studios take months to deliver, if they ever do.

All this without "roadmap" bullshit or MTXs. PA has earned people's respect. This behavior should be standard, but unfortunately it isn't.

It was in rough shape with the day#0 patch, pre-launch it was even worse. People were on the fence about it across the board even with 20 odd hours played.

Like I said, all credit to Pearl Abyss for being "on it" with the fixes, the significant point is that they were given a certain amount of grace time by the public to rehabilitate their project, as opposed to the relentless wrath and malice certain other games have received.

Noone congratulated Concord for having "barely any bugs" ! That's not the relevant point here.

The game was released in a great state

This narrative that the game was somehow released in a buggy state or a state like cyberpunk is complete fiction

Most of the changes that came after the patch had nothing to do with that stuff and actually some people prefer the way the game was originally because they made the game a lot easier in some ways
