NASA moon mission 1st April

Wait the Artemis moon mission is today?

What the fuck? Why is there zero coverage on this?
Because they dont want anyone to notice how late and over-budget it is.

NASA is a joke the DOD played on everyone.

Looking forward to 4K dark side of the moon photos and videos.

Nobody needs to post the pink floyd album cover either btw.

They mock us. Really.

I once went to a very hot supermodel's home. Well, I drove around it, but according to space enthusiasts it counts as going there. 😎

Must be cozy. Especially at "night" when lights are turned off and you only hear the hum of the shuttle whilst falling asleep.

So this mission is to just circle around the moon and come home? If that's the case no wonder many of us didn't hear about that. Still amazing but compared to landing it's no wonder barely any outlet has talked about it.

I think once we start seeing videos from the crew as they film (in hi-def) what they're seeing as they approach and fly around the moon we'll see more talk about it all.

Getting people in to a rocket and sending them to space is nothing new, it happens all the time and doesn't make the news, but having people around the moon sharing videos in full HD is new.

Astronauts on Artemis II will use flight-qualified Nikon D5 camera systems with wide-angle and telephoto lenses to capture imagery inside and outside the Orion spacecraft

Artemis II astronauts will be allowed to take their personal smartphones with them and there'll also be handheld GoPros provided by Disney for a National Geographic documentary.

That kind of content is perfect for landing on Tiktok and Instagram and all the spaces where people naturally browse.

Yeah I feel like it's a bit of a nothing burger compared to people actually landing there and coming back 50 years ago... but it's still impressive.

It's the same they did back in 60's: test that you can get people there and return them safely.

Apollo 9 and 10 was essentially this. They also tested the lunar lander but thanks to Elon Musk we don't have a lander yet. He's busy spending tax money blowing up rockets.

Yeah, hopefully we get enough really good hi-res video of Earth receding and the moon (including the 'dark' side) that we can A. put the fucking flat Earthers to rest for good, B. dismiss any notion that the Chinese got H3 mining ops and whatnot over there, and C. DEFINITIVELY determine what type of cheese the moon is made from :P

It's hardly a nothing burger when this is the first time in almost 50 years that anyone will have gone past LEO.

There's a current No-Go issue regarding the flight termination system comms. I was only partly listening in but it seems that there's a proposed solution that they're going to test.

EDIT: Seems test went well and all is good.

"In space, to the moon, both ways!"

Great to hear of the smaller creature comfort victories but the first thing I thought of was the whole "Back in my day...".

Fuck me, I'm getting hyped.

First time in my lifetime something exiting related to space exploration happens (people will again leave our orbit after ~50 years).
