Sony XDev - Studio that collaborates with external studios (Stella Blade, Death Stranding 2) removed PC ports from its description

What contracts? This is a update on various studio descriptions. With Nixxes going from not mentioning PC at all to now mentioning PC. The contract thing in the title is not true.
Im talking about Kena ... its a second party game and will come out to pc . Dont know why the confusion.

Yes I know. But I'm not seeing where contracts are being changed.

All this news is that the studio descriptions on the PS homepage got changed. Not just the ones in this thread but all of them. New PS studio logo as well.

While I don't doubt recent reporting that ports like GoY have been cancelled I think people are reading way too much into this. Especially considering the Nixxes description update.
 
Didn't it used to be Naughty Dog's ICE Team that used to help devs with figuring out the best way to optimise for Playstation? Do they just purely do research these days?

oh nevermind, Xdev's been around even before Naughty Dog got bought.

Everyone knows what nixxes does since day 1 ... so the description is in accordance with the studio , as others have mentioned Sony GaaS titles will continue to come to PC. So someone has to do this porting.

Well, their GaaS, like Marathon, and the upcoming Marvel fighter, will be developed for both PC and PS from the get-go, not "ported" to PC. So not really sure what's next for Nixxes.

Nixxes can still handle pc versions of those games even though those are day n date.
 
If this leads to Sony's first-party making actual good games again, I am all for it. They've been delivering mid to shit stuff throughout the generation except for Astro Bot.
Why would it make any difference?
 
That's entirely debatable. There's no doubt Sony spent time and resources on porting and establishing/amplifying their PC presence. Greatly reducing that may have a noticeable impact on their first-party output which has been sorely lacking for many people this generation. It's hard to say without concrete information either way, though.
That's fair; but it's my opinion if there is any effect at all it'd be pretty damn minimal. By all accounts these ports weren't huge efforts and it's not like publishing them takes much either.
 
You guys are excited like Sony is having the same exclusives they had during PS4 eras , they had nothing this gen except live service failure, stagnation and studios shutdown, they are swinging.

When PS6 cost as much as a PC single player exclusives will matter even more.

The same market forces pushing PS6's cost upwards are going to hit PC just as hard. So there's no reason to suspect that the price-point differential is going to change.

This gen was Sony's headless south park chicken gen .... the hope is for something better in the future.... and prioritizing exclusives is a very nice start

Do they even have enough studios to make these future exclusives ? They butchered every thing they had starting with Japan studio
 
Sucks. Sony's games deserve the best hardware. I get it but I don't have to like it.
They weren't doing anything with the best hardware anyway. PC ports barely look better and often times, they even had visual bugs not present in the console version.

I honestly prefer they doing second/third party development deals with jap/asia studios ... I personally dont thrust Sony californian blue hair studios until proven otherwise
 
I thought Xdev could have attracted more talent and collaboration if they had agreed to a PS5/PC release. If I had been Jim Ryan, I would have based my entire Gaa$ strategy on the collaboration Xdev could secure.
 
The tweet doesn't mention anything about PC but if the rumors are correct, then I don't see why XDEV games also wouldn't be on PC going forward.

Would be stupid to finance more games for "console exclusivity", when Steam machine players and Xbox player are going to play on PC. It's literally throw money for nothing

I'm of the opinion that Sony stretched themselves a little too thin this gen. Expanding into PC and their GaaS initiative - plus purchases and closings of various studios - have all had an impact on their output. I get what they were trying to do and if I recall correctly Jim Ryan specifically spoke about wanting to expand their IP beyond their console user base, but the results have been less than stellar. A tightening of their focus may bring about better results for their game output and future outlook. Time will tell, I suppose.

There are currently 3 games pc players are missing out on that are worth it on PS5:

gt7 , Demons Souls & Astro

GT8 will likely get a port as it will probably have heavy live service elements.

Demons souls probably stuck on PS5 now bluepoint is shut.

Saros Def will be ported and Id imagine Wolverine will be to. After that I can see Intergalactic being console other than that is there anything else worth mentioning? Yotei? nah

It mentions their games will be exclusive to PlayStation moving forward.

Sure, but a console need 6 to 8 years cycle. In those years you can get advances lowering the price of new hardware. A PC with the power of PS5 is around the half of the same PC in 2020.
 
Sony might not like that $300,000,000 but are they really betting that they will make that and more by tempting PC gamers to buy a PS5 for Horizon Hunter Gatherers and Interstellar? This was a nice little way to take the sting off some risky projects. I'd love to see Days Gone numbers. That's a perfect use-case. Take a game that underperformed, port it to PC in 20 minutes and recoup a little more dough. This feels like a move you make if you're bullish on industry spending. We also never got a same-day launch of a desirable single player title. I think console would outsell it handily, but there are titles that would be interesting in that arena. Gran Turismo would raise eyebrows...

Its possible they streamlined their engines for easier porting which could lead to less impressive ps5 games.
 
A healthy industry is important. Exclusives help Sony and Nintendo sustain their platforms and invest more strongly on exclusives. It's good a good thing.

They would have never done it. Why would they want PC games to look so much better than their PlayStation counterparts when it's their main business?

I think that's what it's about too - retaining their current players and attempting to gain those who are not already entrenched in a platform. Trying to get new players is what I see in some of the choices they've made in their ad campaigns, for example, with popular music stars and idols.
 
New thread title is inaccurate. It never mentioned PC ports previously, they added their collaborations will be exclusive to PlayStation.
