SNK is releasing a modern NeoGeo AES console

As much as I used to want a Neo Geo like...20 years ago..the problem is now so many of these games are just so easy to get through other means. They constantly release them in compilations, or have done other types of hardware. So playing any of them doesn't really feel novel anymore.

Edit: Now if they were making an AES cart version of Money Idol Exchanger or Windjammers....well then we'd be on to something, lol

Can I plug MVS carts into this thing? I seem to recall there being an adapter for AES systems, but it'd be nice if the thing just worked with them out of the box. I guess I'm also curious if it can do RGB output.

I really don't need this, but it's tempting. I think it's incredibly cool that it exists.

I remember them being 150 bucks back in the day. Funny thing is people will soon be paying that kind of money for AAA games on any platform. We already at 80 bucks……

I never new anybody who owned one but we all used to go Gaga over the screen shots of the games in CVG back in the day. Really was the arcade at home. And no one of us could afford one! 😅😅
What day? They were $200+ unless on sale.
I got the console on sale for $450 and traded a shit ton of SNES and Genesis stuff to get it.

The Neo Geo, for its time it was unmatched the Rolls Royce of the gaming hardware world, and was the only console to truly bring the arcade home, till the Saturn came along with its 2d speciality at a cheaper price..

They should have made the arcade stick wireless :messenger_loudly_crying:

Edit: It is wireless... so hype if it matches the original.

Edit 2: The one that comes with the console is wired only... Booo. This is such a rollercoaster of emotion.

The white one comes with a wireless stick and a game. It's $100 more expensive.

So "US edition" is not available to ship to the US?

When I put it in my cart it says:

The product in your cart is not available for delivery to your location.

Damn bro that sucks…it went smoothly when I preordered.

It really sucks they have Samurai Shodown 5 and not 1~3. I never cared for any Samurai Shodown after 3 😅.

Apparently it's just some states. I changed my address to a random one in another state and it's fine.

SS5 Special is very expensive as it was the last game released. All the other games in the series are relatively cheap.

If this would've come out 15 years ago, I would've been all over it.

At this point, I have bought dozens of these games on my Switch and even bought an arcade stick for the authentic experience. If I were still collecting stuff, then I would be all over this. As I've gotten older, I've realized that my nostalgia is more in the experience and not in the hardware.

No emulation - Powered by re-engineered ASIC chips

That part is interesting as it is not going to use an FPGA or a SBC styled ARM component. It's all hard wired ASIC 68K + Neo-Geo graphics and audio recreation. The system could end up being incredibly accurate to a real Neo-Geo AES. The system will have dip switches for overclocking and I suppose different display modes, like 16:9, 4:3. etc.

This actually sounds pretty cool. Much better than some of the previous 'modern' recreations of the AES. Which were more emulation based.

Hopefully you don't have to pre-order or miss out because I'd like to see how this reviews before I buy one.

Well that was $700 I didn't need to spend but anniversary edition secured with a couple games and extra controller

I wish for the same thing but with PS2.

There's such a massive amount of PS2 discs around, I feel like Sony is missing massive opportunity to sell a PS2 Classic. Not like the 'classic editions' from a few years back with preloaded games - just a regular-ass PS2 that you put discs in but it has HDMI, built-in storage for saves, and supports DS4/DualSense controllers

Hell, emulation is so good now they probably don't even need to put real EE chips in it

It's still closer to the old thing than the FPGA you're suggesting. In fact since it's ASIC-based it's as close to the real deal as you can get both legally and realistically considering certain processors (i.e classic 68000 CPUs) are not really manufactured at all anymore by their parent companies (who in some cases don't exist now or have been acquired/merged by/into others).

Dunno why you're so hung up over other people being interested in this or excited about what opportunities it could open up for future reissues of old retro systems.

Could it be that he is salty that everyone can now buy a new better Neo Geo console while he had spent probably a lot on purchasing an old Neo Geo and mISTer.
