Announcing FINAL FANTASY XIV for Nintendo Switch 2!

FINAL FANTASY XIV will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch™ 2 in August 2026!

• Those playing FINAL FANTASY XIV for the first time on Nintendo Switch 2
  Purchase FINAL FANTASY XIV for Nintendo Switch 2 and a subscription to play the game.
• Current FINAL FANTASY XIV players who wish to play on Nintendo Switch 2
  If you already play FINAL FANTASY XIV on another platform, you will still need to purchase FINAL FANTASY XIV for Nintendo Switch 2 and a separate subscription for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. However, if you have remaining game time on other platforms, the Nintendo Switch 2 subscription will be available at half price.

There will be an initial one-month period of early access to ensure server stability, after which official service will start. A subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will not be required to play FINAL FANTASY XIV on Nintendo Switch 2 in either the early access period or during official service.

To play it on Switch 2 I need a separate subscription. Lol that's bullshit I can play on PS5 and PC with the same subscription, just need to own the games. I can't imagine that many people buying and subbing on Switch 2.

This is still the biggest problem with FFXIV in its current state, even more than the issues with player engagement and combat design that they're looking to address in 8.0. The Realm Reborn storyline that the game begins with is often not a very compelling experience both in gameplay and story. People who like to say "You just have to play until Heavensward when it gets good" need to understand what they're asking of new players; most people are not going to be willing to slog through 50+ hours of a mediocre game in order to play a good one.
