I will boycott next-gen consoles if they are digital-only, what about you?

BIG games that people care about often need mandatory internet connections for day one patches. So what's the problem there?
Nah, on PlayStation most of the big games work fine without a connection. Only a small minority of games need mandatory downloads.

Nope, games are entertainment, there is no need for them to take up extra space in my home, and having them easy to access and play is valuable to me.

I guess the OP is no longer buying games.

Go watch Netflix then. That will show'em..

Oh wait. You boycotting that too ?

People need to stop living in the ice age. PC has been digital for years and we are fine. If a game gets pulled or discontinued that I owned at one point, then I'll crack the fuck out of it. That simple ( I own many games that got discontinued including games like street fighter vs Tekken on steam or Forza horizon 2 and 3 on MS store ),They didn't disappear from my library . And again if they did I'll download them from fitgirl or any torrent.. so the motion that you don't own the game is bullshit excuse collectors try to hang on to justify over paying for shit old NES games or N64 to make them feel good. Very annoying people I gotta be honest.

I want to sit in front of tv or monitor, pick the game I want to play with my controller and start playing. Not swapping disc for every game and then wait for it to be installed which take forever if it's from a disc even on ps5 unless you disconnect the Internet, which will let you download from disc first then from internet. Like fuck that process. Digital is the way to go.

I wonder if OP also purchase all his anime on blue Ray too. 10 EPS for 25$ of naturo lol.

Or buy each movie online. Or is he ok to go digital there and watch them for free lol.
What a weird double standards.

Good luck to you or anyone who is like you . I guess you will be here more often since you won't be playing much in the future 😂

I don't know. I pretty much only buy digital now, but I like having a disc drive for GameFly since renting is the better way to go for most games these days. I'll have to see how things evolve. No sense worrying over it today.

I do not expect it next generation. Or at least not at launch. However, I have accepted that it is coming.

Best case. It doesn't happen. Next case, not all titles are digital and I mainly stick to them. Worst case, they all go digital and I become very selective or stay the course with PS5 and retro consoles.

Consoles have been slowly been turned into content delivery terminals instead of proper gaming machines over the years, and since their userbase has been taking it laying down (sometimes even defending them) it'll only get worse.

I dont think physical media will disappear with the ps6 and new xbox, but expect internet and online accounts to become even more interwoven with the hardware.

Even if the next consoles had disk drives, where do you even buy physical games anymore?. In the UK there are barely any game stores left, and even a lot of supermarkets have stopped selling them (around me anyway).

Just let it go guys lol.

'extra space in my home' is the key word of why your argument is wrong. Its vary between consumer to consumer.

....what do other consumer's have to do with my feelings? The OP asked "what about you?", not "what about all other consumers". So what are you talking about?

I buy them from most supermarkets, Smyths Toys, Currys, Argos.

Digital only in our house. I haven't bought a physical game in many years. Maybe since 2019?

I bought a physical Switch game for my wife last year and she asked if we can return it and download it instead. She said it's easier and less clutter. She doesn't follow gaming at all and plays maybe 1-3 games a year.

92% of Capcom sales are digital. I don't think they will even notice if you stop buying optical discs with months-old beta builds on them.

That's not me, I care about sales and I buy only when I've beaten all important games from my library. I understand it's harmful to some studios if more than %50 of gamers do what I do but I wouldn't mind spending $80 20 times on 20 games at once. $80 times 20 is $1600.

PS6 is already confirmed to have a disc add-on like PS5 Slim/Pro, so you can relax
That doesn't necessarily all depend on Sony. Publishers would probably be just as happy to get rid of physical games as Sony would and once the first major publisher goes fully digital others will follow.

"Perfectly logical" would be stop playing games because physical games are dead

This is pure bullshit

I easily can. And why would I get a Playstation 6 all digital if Playstation games will be on PC, PC is also digital and I can custom my PC to whatever thafuck I can?

If consumers need to choise what is best, why they would choise what is not the best? Buying a PS6 because exclusives? Buying a PS6 because physical media? Buying PS6 because is a powerful machine?

Folks here can't talk about options anymore if they are removing the options. If there is no more options for consumers, why would consumers in hesitation of picking up the best?
You can't see logic in your argument. People buy consoles for many and different reasons. As soon as you remove the 'reasons' to buy a console, people will eventualy stop buying.

There are 2 models of PS5 and if you look for of what of them is selling more I can assure you is not the PS5 DE.

Sony gave the option for consumers to go all digital and the consumers choise the disk base console.

They can go to hell for sure 100%! I'd rather play my physical XBOX 360 and physical games than buy any future balogna from Microshart. By now they should have had a dedicated, handheld 360 gaming system at least. You know, they've had failure after failure from the phone market to the tablet market. Bad decisions start at the top and bottom of the employee list. In that, if your team isn't cohesive, the end product is shite. Also, anyone else tired of corporate elitists wanting to put knowledge of human existance and basically anything, behind paywalls and subscription fees? Support for a system like that is damnation for all but the elistist wealthy.

It seems Microsoft wants to completely get rid of physical media; in fact, they tried this with the Xbox Series S but kept a Blu-ray drive in the Series X.

I don't like losing my rights, and I think indignation needs to be shown now, or soon our hobby will become a real prison being sold as freedom. Digital is not preservation, digital is not preservation.

Boycott if you don't have the option of a physical media drive, boycott, whether it's the Sony PlayStation 6, the new Xbox, or some Nintendo Switch cartridges.
Do you play on a Gaming PC?

Comments making jokes about PC being digital only are retarded at least. OP said that he doesn't like losing his rights. On PC, he doesn't have to. I have purchased my most favorite games on GOG and have them stored on my storage array, where they will stay until I am no more. What about your digital only console games? If Sony for some reason decides that you've somehow violated their ToS, you'll lose everything.

That makes no sense. If someone has PS5 for physical games and PC for digital then pretty easy to pick the odd man out if physical goes away.

And yet they are the best physical publisher. Keep releasing fully updated/Gold versions on disc.

All of these fully patched, final versions except for RE4, and Requiem, which even on disc has PSSR 2.0 so it's a very obvious extremely recent build.

And thank God for this disc, as it's the only way to keep playing with Ray Tracing in Raccoon City on PS5 Pro.

Of course not, digital is already the way to go IMO, so I don't have piles of plastic junk sitting around my house. Don't care about trade ins either. I buy, I play, that's it.

Can't stop what is inevitable.

PC has been digital only for 15 years now and it's only gotten bigger.

That said I think that these companies do understand that people want physical and most importantly it tends to be people who play and buy more. I think the PS6 will have a disc drive but it will be like PS5 Pro and be an optional accessory.

I don't care much for a console with digital only games. But yes, I do have a digital only PC. Why is that?

I have a decent amount of digital games on PS3/4/5, but after Sony's changes, I do not care to get a single digital game from them, ever again. I used to buy digital games on consoles when they were exclusive, and of smaller nature. (Usually not available on disc.)

When I buy a new PC, I can play 99% of the games I own. (Some games might not work due to compability.) On the PlayStation ecosystem, I have all their consoles, but I cannot play PS1/2/3 games on my PS5. Do you know where I can play them, though? On my PC, via emulation. The same goes for my PSP/Vita Library. All stored on external devices.

I've been 100% digital for years, last physical game I bought was MGSV on ps4. My optical drive shat the bed soon after and it was all digital after that.
Don't miss physical at all. Well, I do miss the old pc releases from the 80/90's when they had cool/weird boxes with cool manuals and maps and such.

why would I do that when i've been digital only since the end of the ps3?

and for funsies ... all the digital xbox games I bought on 360 I can still play today on the newest console! imagine that! not ps3 games though.... looking at you Sony.. :messenger_downcast_sweat:

It seems digital is winning the vast majority of gamers. I prefer physical but also have digital games as well. As long as they make sure there are no issues with DRM and try to promote better sales for digital games then it shouldn't be so bad. Both next gen consoles should at the very least have support for an external disc drive. That shouldn't be so hard if they want to and would allow the option. I guess we will have to wait and see how this all plays out

One of my favorite things to do when I was in Japan was to visit all the game shops and second hand stores that sold games.

Walking down these isles and looking at the cases just doesn't feel the same as browsing the PlayStation Store.

Not bought a physical game in over a decade, other than one or two on the Switch. I like jumping around from game to game, even in a single sitting, and I'm too lazy to get up and swap discs all the time.

Only downside for me is the slightly higher prices.
