God of War: Laufey Announced

This scene looked absolutely phenomenal.

Egyptian Gods confirmed, meaning we're probably playing as Kratos in Egypt at some point. Or probably Tyr. Either way theres going to be multiple different mythologies.

Looks exactly like I thought it would, gonna pass. I just can't see myself enjoying that main character but at least she's not another butt ugly main Sony seems obsessed with. Sony fans will eat it up though.
Sony ponies can be mindless but I dont even think they can save this game. I am expecting a total bomb

I checked her credits on mobygames and her career is on cinematic and animation production. Meanwhile Cory Barlog has a career in artist - animator - lead animator - game director.

I don't understand how a producer which is a management job gets picked for game director which is a creative job.

The graphics looks great, but the map looks so bland to be fair it showed only one area... the rest looks boring as fuck, the combat looks so meh....

Getting tired of games where the character doesn't shut the fuck up, with side kicks that are even more annoying, but hey guess what there's is two side kicks now!!!!
Of course they all have those quirky personalities is like watching a most recent marvel movie.

"I hope by the end of this, everybody has feelings for Some ribbons and a jellied cube," says Ariel Lawrence."

I mean...ok....da fuck

Any GOW game that doesnt have that annoying little fucker atreyas in it is better from the jump... I couldnt finish playing the last game because of the constant annoying banter and attitude cringe.

She's pretty, but her outfit is so "slums" or Burning Man - while covering so much skin at the same time. It's just weird to see the female body being censored and female sensuality toned down, while the male characters are out here flexing their abs and shoulders.

The game looks really clean, though. Animations and combat look awesome. I just don't dig the art direction; it's very fairy-like. Way too tame.

I don't get the double standard either. You have pop icons like Katseye and Dua Lipa being all sexy and sensual on stage, and everyone loves it. Men and women. But a video game with a female protagonist? Don't you dare expect something more mature and sexy, or you're instantly labeled an incel.

I really hate how extreme the internet has become. I feel like this place has become rather fragile and insufferable at times, and Reddit is the exact same thing, just the other side of the spectrum.
She's wearing normal Norse/Viking attire isn't she? (And don't forget that's just the clothes she was buried in, that's the base garments below the (upgradeable) armour you collect

It's the next mainline game!

Plan?

Protect Kratos?

Getting yourself killed in the first place is a great plan to "protect" someone.

Also imagine the arrogance of thinking you're so special you need to "protect" fucking KRATOS???

Didn't her entire race spend an eternity hiding from Odin before they all got levelled by him?

Then my man Kratos comes along and fucking bodied him in a single battle, once he actually worked up the attitude to stop moping around and actually got serious.

If this premise is canon to the game then man.. these fucking writers...

It won't bomb because most fans aren't going to complain about having to play as Laufey.

I know people are going to do everything in their power to convince themselves that the game is a flop.

It won´t outright bomb but it´s certainly going to underperform. The number of completely braindead fanboys that just gobble everything up Sony shits out isn´t as big as they´d like.

Are people hating mostly because the main character is a woman and not hot enough for them? Is the game too woke?

I guess I would have preferred them going in another direction, this looks a lot like the last two games but with a female lead, but overall it looks cool.

A lot people are going to claim it's going to underperformed based on no real metrics.

People still believe GoY, Spider-Man 2, GOW Ragnarok, TLOU 2, Astro Bot have all underperformed based on the dumbest metrics possible.

I mean Sony could always just release sales numbers if they want to combat speculation.

They're not here to satisfy people who want to argue about sales online.

We know from history that sales numbers don't mean anything to people because they're continuously move the goalpost.

Just woke up and saw this.........

is this reality, or the world actually ended in 2012 like the Mayan prophesied and we live in a limbo where everyone has to suffer for eternity?

Nothing to do with satisfying anyone. Good sales are good marketing. Companies usually shout their successes from every rooftop in town. And hide their failures. That´s why secrecy regarding sales should make you wary. We still get sales updates from companies like Nintendo and Capcom for games that are almost a decade old.

OK if you say so, remember I told you so.

Some of you are completely nuts, it looks fkin incredible
Honestly, I keep seeing the same crowd complaining about absolutely everything. They're never satisfied, acting as if they're veteran game developers capable of creating something deeper, more innovative, or technically more impressive than the games they're criticizing.
The reality ? Not a single one of them could program a game with half the complexity of Pac-Man.
Their mouths move at light speed, just like their reflexes when it comes to slapping a laughing emoji on anything that doesn't perfectly match their personal wishlist. Every trailer, every screenshot, every gameplay reveal... out comes the clown reaction on autopilot.
They're experts at mocking the work of real professionals who spend years pouring talent, passion, and countless sleepless nights into making games.
And what do they bring to the table ?
Absolutely nothing.
Just anonymous nobodies hammering away at their keyboards with fingers apparently marinated in boogers, desperately venting their frustration, incompetence, and chronic inability to create anything beyond another pointless comment section meltdown.

Criticizing is easy. Building something worth criticizing is the part they've never managed to figure out.

Nice meltdown. Did you at least get paid for it?

It should be well known by now that Sony rarely provides sales updates for most of its first-party titles.

However, even when they provide us with sales updates, people will still claim the game has underperformed. The truth is, people don't want these games to succeed, and they'll never admit the game sold well.

Holy fuck, the condescension...

You know what's ironic? You're throwing a tantrum about people being critical while simultaneously going on a rant about people being critical. That's some impressive lack of self-awareness.

And this part:
"Just anonymous nobodies hammering away at their keyboards with fingers apparently marinated in boogers, desperately venting their frustration, incompetence, and chronic inability to create anything beyond another pointless comment section meltdown."

You mean the consumers? The same people you're expecting to spend €70 on your product? The people whose opinions supposedly don't matter right up until it's time to open their wallets?

Get off that high horse my guy, then again, your reply feels so oddly personal that I'm starting to think you work in game development because nobody should be this offended by criticism directed at an industry they aren't part of.

Newsflash: if developers started making games people actually wanted to play, a lot of this criticism would disappear on its own :
Create characters players genuinely connect with. Stop cramming in forced messaging. Stop relying on "Press X to Awesome" gameplay and squeezing through the same waist-high crack in the wall for the hundredth time.

The reality is that companies and the so-called "professionals®" have become so disconnected from their audience that you'd think they've spent the last decade locked in a bunker with no contact with the outside world.

People aren't criticizing games for the sake of it. They're criticizing them because, for years now, the industry has been serving up the same tired design trends, the same safe corporate formulas and the same lectures disguised as entertainment, then acting shocked when players push back...

I've never seen our resident dev, John Marston John Marston , act as vitriolic or pathetic as you've been here. He's always pretty level-headed, positive, and perfectly capable of being critical when it's warranted. You, on the other hand, seem to have gone completely off the rails.

Holy fuck, the projection...
You spent several paragraphs arguing against points I never actually made.
I never said consumers shouldn't criticize games.
I never said developers are beyond criticism.
I never said every modern game is great.
I never said players should blindly buy whatever companies sell.

What I said was that a certain group of people has turned criticism into a personality trait.

There's a difference between "I don't like this design choice." and "This game is trash, these developers are idiots, woke garbage lol 😂"

One is criticism.
The other is just noise.
And judging by how personally you took my comment, I suspect you already knew exactly which group I was talking about.
The funniest part is your "if developers made games people wanted to play, criticism would disappear" argument.

Really ?
Because I've been around gaming long enough to remember people calling masterpieces overrated, declaring games dead before release, review bombing titles they never played, and predicting the collapse of entire franchises that went on to sell millions.

Gamers don't stop criticizing when they get what they want.
They simply find something else to complain about.
As for the "consumers paying €70" argument, buying a product gives you the right to criticize it.
It doesn't magically make every criticism intelligent, informed, or valuable.
If I buy a piano, I'm still not a concert pianist.
If I buy a steak, I'm still not a chef.
And if I buy a videogame, my purchase doesn't suddenly transform every opinion I have into expert analysis.

The real irony here is that I made a comment about people who mock developers while contributing nothing of value themselves...

...and half the replies have been people mocking me while contributing nothing of value themselves.

Thanks for helping illustrate the point.

Yeah i know that Sony is an intransparent company. That doesn´t happen accidentally though. It´s on purpose. It always is. They are hiding information.

Wow, for the first time I feel like the sentiment of "chuds" and "woke" being thrown around willy nilly feels evident and hard to ignore than this thread.

The game ACTUALLY looks really great to play? Combat looks fun, has DMC/RESONANT/GOWR vibes and so far, I haven't felt like they're shitting on Kratos lore-wise.

Idk, like, I am not a fan of the constant female protagonists shoved down our throats, but I do love some great gameplay and action - which this game has.

As long as it doesn't ask me to do burpees for misgendering, i don't see why i wont buy it. Frickin Yotei was my biggest regret, that gameplay was barely an evolution of Tsushima and it dod not warrant a new character whatsoever.

Here, i can see the why we're seeing Faye.

I just hope its not a goddamn trilogy.
