In character models only (and even then, I would say Part II looks better). Detroit isnt a bad looking game, but it was never part of the discussion of best looking games of that gen.
We shouldnt judge them based on more than 20 years of industry leading tech excellence, but we should judge them on one screenshot from their WIP game?
AFAIK they might end up disapointing us, ok? But there's no indication thus far that might be the case.
Tho I'm pretty sure some of you guys will be disapointed with
something, and that will be the case even with GTA VI.
"Why this game has less geometry than this AA game using UE 5??", while said UE 5 game is linear as a corridor, has terrible animations, bad AI, bad models etc.
Games like RDR 2 or TLOU Part II are still incredible to this day cause UE 5 maybe had democratized "good graphics" to a lot of developers, but making exceptional shit is still very, very hard. Im talking amazing animation (and animation blending), IA, character models, handcrafted lighting, level design, specific proprietary tech etc.
Naughty Dog had a team
only to light scenarios properly, by hand. Most studios just turn Lumen on and call it a day.
Some dude at ND had a SIGGRAPH presentation about how he developed specific tech for eye rendering.
This is the kind of stuff that set them apart, and I doubt that there's no one at Naughty Dog anymore doing this kind of thing.
