I don't care about Elon Musk, but made by Mel Gibson, the man behind Apocalypto and Braveheart? Fucking yes. I don't think this will happen, I'm afraid.
The dialogue could be hardly the same though. But Gibson would care more about inmersion at least instead "everyone talking like other movies because being 'relatable' " .
This reminds me he's making the two sequels of The Passion of Christ...

Listening to actors butcher Homeric Greek would not be particularly immersive to me. Maybe having them speak modern Greek would be better I guess.
You could make a script without a lot of dialogue and then do it is ancient greek. There is a guy on insta who sings/recites the Odyssey in ancient greek and it sounds really nice, waaaaaay better than that auto-tuned shitshow of an end song.
Can't imagine why Nolan didn't do this for the movie

Well, maybe not that guy specifically but the rhythm and flow of the words sung by a chorus, give us an idea of how it was likely originally performed.
It's not like listening to german, buncha folks just barking and coughing at each other

Matt Smith is better but he's still awkward at times. Hell many actors from the UK/Aus/NZ absolutely suck with American accents to and kill immersion for me. Tom Holland sucks at it for instance. Speaking some language that is nonsense to the actor is even worse.

The Passion was fantastic with Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew. Everyone loved the use of it and didn't know the wiser due to how well the performances were until some historians came out and said "acccksshuuuwallly."
Apocalypto was great as well.

Fair enough, I'm EXTREMELY sensitive to this shit I guess, personal problem. I'd 9 times out of 10 just rather someone used their natural accent for instance. Like the show Silo is so dumb, hardly any actor is American but they decided to have everyone speak in American accents and it kind of drives me nuts.

I get that, I've come across a lot of shows and films that have done that and made me do an eye roll or angst face.
I find most "native american language" to be borderline intolerable in films. It very much has a stuttering rhythm to it like they are just reciting sounds with no notion of the actual word flow and context. No emphasis, no stress on certain sounds, just a monotonous repetition that doesn't mimic normal speech, even in a tongue you don't understand. Maybe those languages ARE like that, but I doubt it. I don't think anyone is actually using them in normal speech even if they know the words and pronunciation.
Fine for short snippets, but not great for long speeches. Apocalypto was probably the best use for it.

That text intro on black screen right up to the part where Travis Scott makes music about Odysseus, would work really well if sung in Greek like this. Then it switches to English afterward.

Good looking, but a bit dull.
For the Era mythology, Clash of the Titans still reigns supreme. 1981, by Desmond Davis, yeah yeah, Perseus was roughly 100 to 150 years older than Odysseus time, but that movie is the better one. Nolan should have hit this out of the ballpark, but made a half boring slog of a movie, with too much nonsense.
Atleast Sinon was still a minor character..

This is insane. i was having a really hard time getting tickets to see the movie at my local LieMAX with Laser, but it seems like the same is true for IMAX 70MM.
Finally got tickets for Friday. Had to book four days in advance. Tickets went live early on Tuesday and by 9AM, theater was already half full. Never seen anything like this. Not even for Avatar.

Overall I give it a 3/5. Liked a lot of it. Some of it I didn't like. None of the casting pulled me out.
The island with the giants I don't remember who they are.
I think the sequence with Polyphemus was a let down. Should have had the conversations with them.
Cicre with the stew and pigs was really good. Having Odysseus remember the events was a great way to present it.
Meneleus remembering his part was good.

im in the midwest. This is the saturday evening showing at my local LieMAX with Laser. (One of two in my city) All the good seats are taken. If you are going alone, you can get some decent seats. If you are going with friends or the missus, forget about getting a good seat. Again, this is 4 days from now.
This is for tomorrow evening. Im originally from the east coast, but ive been living here for almost 20 years now and ive never seen anything like this. Like i said before, I watch all Nolan movies multiple times on IMAX. This is something else. It's like no one wants to watch it in anything other than IMAX.
There is a 70mm (non IMAX) screen that is showing the movie on Film. I was getting antsy and wanted to see if i could get some seats during the week and nope. This is tomorrow evening. Of course I could settle for seats up front but fuck that.
Edit: Its outperforming TDK in terms of dollars.

I am surprised this movie is doing so well. I guess there is really nothing else to watch right now and people must really like Nolan. And when was the last time an IMAX movie came out? The one IMAX that I knew about closed like 10 years ago. I like that is has old school special effects, but the forced DEI casting kills any interest I might have. I thought we were all tired of DEI, but I guess not. I guess a lot on GAF have a much higher threshold than I do for it. I have lost a lot of interest in watching all movies in a theater since COVID, so it takes a lot to drag me to a movie. And having Elliot Page cast as a main character, as a man, is not something I want to pay to see unless it is a remake of Lord of the Rings where she plays as Gollum. Matt Walsh has a wall of text review after watching it. I tend to agree with his hot takes and he shreds this movie pretty good. It is definitely confirmation bias. He says the movie sucks and I don't need to watch it to agree.

Those trying to claim it's a failure or disappointment. This is like the rightwing version of Kyle Kulinski and David Pakman gaslighting their audience by calling the UFC White House event a disaster.
And those trying to co opt it as some antiwoke conservative commentary. Just cringe.
This is really a dumb hill to die on. The movie has been well received by general audiences and is performing really well at the BO. Just take the L.

I just like seeing well-made movies from passionate directors with technical achievement behind them, man. My first question is not "is it woke or not" because that would be an incredibly boring way to approach art. And even if it is, I'll decide for myself and not let a guy on Twitter who ragebaits for a living tell me what to think.

Part of me wants to see it again because I wasn't blown away like it seems like a lot of people are. I feel like I'm missing something that a repeat view may change. I also want to go see it in true IMAX but the only somewhat decent seats are at like 8am Wednesday next week near me.

Finally watched it, Nolan doesn't miss.
I actually liked the first teaser, then a lot of my friends began complaining about the "woke casting" and I guess I let myself get pulled into it a little bit and my hype died down. Alas, now that the movie is finally here some of those same friends are saying it's one of Nolan's best movies, meanwhile I don't think it cracks my top 5 of his movies. We people are weird like that.
Anyhow, still enjoyed tf out of it, the Hades and sacking of Troy scenes are going to stay in my mind for a long time.
Some people might shit on him but the man just knows how to make entertaining movies.
As always with Nolan, can't wait to see what he does next.

Listening to Emily Wilson make good points
Nolan made an interesting and very Nolan-like choice with his screenplay, and I'm okay with getting something different, but Emily Wilson is right. There's a whole lot of guilt and shame, and very little glory and warrioring in his version until the return to Ithaca.
His protagonists are serious, stoic people in all of his films. It would have been cool to leave that comfort zone and try to make a proper unapologetic adventure.
