I did some brief canvasing of Reddit. The reason Im seeing given as to why the alleged political pandering of Marvel and DC is a problem, but the blatant political pandering in this is ok, is because this is built form the ground up to be political with original characters and stories. As opposed to ripping off legacy heroes (I assume they mean stuff like Jane Foster Thor, Kamala Ms. Marvel, IronHeart, etc).
Which is
actually amusing if true. Theyll find out what Marvel and DC has long since discovered, and reason why they do stuff like put Tony in a coma so Riri can take over a for a few months: Creating new heroes from scratch seldom sell.
Putting that aside from a moment, what is the business plan here? Lets say they keep all that 100k. Is that enough to launch a comic? Enough to keep it going? And they want create a rival to the big 2, 100k isnt enough to do that. One comic is not a publishing house. Also how will this comic be distributed? Direct market via Diamond? Comixology/Amazon? And if so, wouldnt they face the same problems that the direct market is dealing with now: Strong number ones followed by diminishing returns on every issue thereafter unless your name is Batman or Star Wars?
