Ben & Jerry's releasing cookie dough beer

We got ourselves a sample of the beer, which was announced in June, ahead of its October 31st release date in beer shops all over the country, and this is what it tastes like.

The beer's made for charity. Some of the proceeds from the 6% ABV ale brewed with chocolate and vanilla will be going towards the climate change advocacy group Protect Our Winters.

After my first few sips, I wondered how the companies could possibly call this a chocolate chip cookie dough beer. But it sneaks up on you. There are beautifully subtle cookie dough notes in the finish, but they don't linger enough to be annoying. This beer is not smacking you across the face with cookie dough notes, but I like that it doesn't. This is a beer I wouldn't mind pairing with some sort of chocolate cake for dessert. And besides, buying a six-pack helps charity.

It would be cool if they collaborated with the brewery right down the street from them, The Alchemist.

Man I miss my Heady Toppers.

I once had a pint of chocolate beer and then promptly went outside and threw up everywhere.

try something good like Young's double chocolate stout.

a local brewery does a chocolate milk stout that is ridiculously smooth and I can wait for it to come back this winter.

So in 2016 we get the legitimization of the alt-right through the candidacy of Donald Trump, we lose Prince and Bowie and Alan Rickman, and they put cookie dough in beer? This year is bullshit.

Honestly, sometimes beers like this are not bad, but there is just no way I could drink more than 1 in a sitting. I had a chocolate peanut butter beer one time and it was amazing, but it was like drinking a milkshake, not a beer.

Nice, hope it comes out in England, would love to try it.

I'll pick one up from my local tesco sometime this week. It better be good, I'm holding you to it.

Is the chocolate milk one just a local one? Sounds like it could be delicious.

JBourne

maybe tomorrow it rains
This isn't the first time they've collaborated with New Belgium. I like their last one (I think it was a brown ale) , so I'll try this too.

yeah it's a small craft brewer here in central california. they've awesome but just barely getting their beer into local restaurants.

i hear the craft brewing scene is heating up in england so you can probably find a lot of good stouts and porters near you.

edit: ironically the name of the brewery is house of pendragon

Hill Farmstead maybe, Alchemist is too IPA-focused for a cookie dough ice cream. New Belgium is generally good, I'll try this given the chance.

I'd also recommend hitting RateBeer or similar before drinking a random chocolate beer. The good ones should be at least 80+, maybe 70+, and the vile ones probably won't be that high.

And my problem with some of them was a weird, unwanted sweetness that just made it gag inducing. The good ones aren't really sweet or it's more subtle, not like some chuckle fuck dumped a ton of sugar in to a beer.

Last year it was caramel brownie Sunday.. Straight up horrible. I usually love new Belgiums beers but I won't buy their Ben and jerry's collaboration again

Shorts in a Michigan has a damn good s'mores beer.

Seeing as this is New Belgium, I have my doubts. I could do without them outside of their Lips of Faith series.

They previously released a Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale. I picked up a six pack and it was pretty decent. Did not taste real sweet at all. It was definitely a brown ale first and foremost, but it had just enough hint of the rest of the flavors to keep it intriguing. Was not a "dessert" beer.

"Made for charity"
"Some of the proceeds"

I know the Internet is loving Ben & Jerry's now, but don't be fooled by this ONE WEIRD MARKETING TRICK.

The company is owned by Unilever, lmfao.
