Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer discussion thread

I'm really not enjoying myself so far. I just can't tell if it's because I'm doing so poorly or if the maps are badly designed. At rank 20 my kill/death ratio is .80 and I'm repeatedly dying within seconds of spawning. It's really nuts how many times I'm getting killed from behind by someone who I recently killed.

I've never been great at these games but I always manage to have fun anyways. Maybe I'm just finally burning out on the genre.

I give up. I'll try again when the stuttering is patched and if they correct the ridiculous grinding required to unlock anything. Also, I'm fucking sick of getting shot in the back ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I've never been the kind of person to say 'This new Call of Duty sucks, they changed X, now it's ruined!' - I liked all the CoDs (perhaps not Black Ops 1 because it made long-ranged weapons completely useless) but this one is definitely different, in a bad way.

I'm re-downloading Black Ops II right now.

I don't know if it's because I'm doing challenges or the briefcase objectives (when I can), but when you get to higher levels, you get a lot more squad points. It seems like every time I check, I have about 20 more than I had the previous time I checked.
I know its super early but any general consensus of top tier ARs and marksman rifles? Squad points are hard to come by :/
MSBS. Use it. Abuse it.

Went offline to see the 1-shot range of shotguns for this CoD. Was disappointed to see the KSG (Pump-action shotgun, slugs instead of buckshot) didn't get into Ghosts. Turned out that all shotguns can be 'modded' to use slugs though, so I was happy with that. Then it turned out that the 1-shot range is absolute shit. :\

Any further than roughly 5 meters and it becomes a 2-shot, defeating the point of using slugs in the first place and doesn't bode well for the 1-shot range of shotguns using buckshot. Real shame since the KSG was great at punishing flanking enemies whose aim was just slightly off and would outright murder anyone who dared to get in front of you at point blank as long as you didn't fuck up the first shot. R870 was pretty damn good at it too, albeit at the cost of range for reliable hip fire. Made BO2 much more bearable for me since I stood a chance against enemies who got the drop on me.

Well, I'm decent with assault rifles, I guess. Also finally switched to Tactical controls which has made a huge difference for me in straight-up fights by letting me drop-shot properly. Still, this is gonna be a rough transition for me.

I'm finding that this game has more of a survival horror vibe than any recent Resident Evil game. I'm constantly on edge that someone is coming up behind me to murder me in cold blood.

I don't play Call of Duty games for that vibe.

I noticed the game constantly respawning me close to the player that killed me and viceversa, it's really stupid.

I have started to enjoy the game a lot more. The first day I barely broke even most maps which frustrated me to no end, and I really didn't like how big the maps were. Plus I had terrible mouse issues which probably didn't help my KDR. Fast forward a few days and my mouse issues are fixed and I have my mojo back, I have adjusted to the slower gameplay and the bigger maps and I'm once again at the top of the scoreboard. My friend with 4GB RAM got his extra RAM in the post as well and playing together is a million times more fun than on my own.

There's still lots of fixes to be made, but at least I'm enjoying it now, whereas before I was really disappointed with the game.

Gotta get that "payback" kill. I do think it's stupid. Maybe they should remove that spawn system and make it into a 1 point perk, spawn within 50 meters and show his image through walls for a couple of seconds.

Ugh don't tempt them. I can already see this being added to the next CoD.

EDIT: Actually they should just automatically Ping around you when you spawn. That way you don't run out 5 steps and get shot in the back.

Its been like that since MW3. The maps have too many choke and focus points

I've been having a good time between the AK-12 and Remington with a Red Dot attachment and silencer. Once in a while I'll roll with the FAD. Works pretty well when you need hip fire. Try everything out though.

That was exactly my experience when playing MW3 for the first time. The maps in Ghosts are quite a bit bigger and more open and there are so many entrances/exits. You kinda have to check every corner, door, broken down wall, window etc. to be safe, by the time you've checked them, you are already dead.

Utterly disappointed they didnt include 3rd person team tactical in a public playlist form, that game mode was soo unique and challenging it really had a complete different pace and feel to regular modes ( which is what you want when adding in playlists)

Idk all that character customisation could go to real good use in tpv, would love to see it return in Cod Ghost as it was IW unique twist on mixing things up and giving player fun options instead of the regular modes

Played my first online matches last night and for some odd reason, the game feels....different. Playing Black Ops II felt like a CoD game. This....doesn't? It's really weird.

Behind you! Behind you!

Im mostly enjoying the game. However, how can someone get a revenge kill on me 5 times in a row without me killing anyone?

Yeah the spawns are pretty shit in this game. It's pretty bad when I kill someone after spawning and think to myself, "wow that was garbage." lol

make 5 steps forward, then turn around to see if someone spawned behind you. repeat all match long.

These don't sound like fun.

With all the flanking options in the maps, it's difficult. Team communication, and having a small sense of where the enemy is spawning (LOL) certainly helps.

Yeah, the spawning is a lot more noticeable this time. I've been getting killed instantly while spawning a lot more, sometimes 3 or 4 deaths in a row before I can get out of the area.

I'm having a blast. I think the multiplayer is great. Only problem I have is with the spawns, which can be pretty messed up at times.
I like the big maps, though they take a bit to get used to. A big problem in Blops 2 was that sniping was pointless unless you were no scoping or doing whatever stupid trick which was the antithesis of sniping, so they actually addressed that. I think most of the maps are great too. Once you play the maps a few times you'll get the choke points and have a good sense of where not to go so you don't get flanked.

Shit has me paranoid tbh. I can't move more then 5 strps without turning around. There shouldn't be 20 different chokepoints lol its a disaster. They need a crash course in map design

Lrts not forget revenge spawns which reared its ugly head since BO 1

I spawned in front of an enemy attack dog last night. I wish i was joking.

It's more annoying knowing how big these maps are that they can't get spawns right.

I get the impression they intentionally spawn people close together because they "want to keep that battles intense" on these larger maps. The problem is they're taking it too far.

Thought I could deal with the map sizes, reason them out but they're really a problem. They're to damn big. It's not like it's all one level either. Some maps have multiple levels in addition to their overall size. Also I'm tired of randomly dying so damn fast that I don't have any time to react. I can look in one direction, look away and then back and suddenly two more enemy players have either spawned or come through some opening. In the end they're not the ones that kill me!!! Such BS.

Said in the Wii U thread but I'm seriously considering getting rid of the game and then rebuying Black Ops 2 used. I got bored with that after putting over 90 hours into it but it was a significantly more enjoyable experience even with the pointer controls having issues.

Clan shit is pissing me off.
App says im in the GAF clan, in game everything is locked and the friends list thing says im not even in one.

yup, would play that endlessly.
wouldn't even care if they fixed other problems.

I'm gonna list my top 3 ARs for this AR dominant game after 6 days of playing. I guess it could change later with patches, but without weapon re-balancing, these will be the top dogs:

1. MSBS (with silencer + red dot or silencer+full auto)

2. Remington R5 (with silencer + red dot)

3. AK-12 (with foregrip + muzzle brake)

The Remington feels like the ACR from MW3 and MSBS feels like the M16 from MW2. AK-12 feels like AK-47 in general.

IMO, These guns make all the other assault rifles irrelevant, but we all knew this day was coming. I really like the Honey Badger because it doesn't give a shit and eats larvae and cobras and shit, but I'm not a fan of the damage. Some weapons are simply better than others. This is COD after all.

For assault rifle perks I highly recommend using quickdraw+focus as your base and then add whatever you want according to your play style. This is another reason why the assault rifles are the best because you don't need to spend all your points on a ton of specific perks just to make them good.

Shotguns
I've been using something similar to the SMG perk setup further along in this post, but only on the smallest maps in the game. I just wanna say this right now: Good luck sneaking up on anyone, ever. Pray for a revenge spawn so you can shoot them in the back. With the SMGs you can at least get some shots in from range. I mean they're basically long range feathers hitting them, but at least your bullets are reaching them with an SMG. With the shotguns, the only satisfaction you get is the other person knowing that they just got killed by the worst weapons in the game. I guess that's good enough.

Snipers
I like the L115 or USR with quickdraw and focus perks. USR with chrome lining attachment and L115 with armor-piercing.

Marksman Rifles
I like MK14 with 3 round burst, quickdraw and focus right now.

Pistols
Magnum could have been awesome, but they limit how fast you can shoot it, so I just use the M9. The pistols in general are horrible in this version.

SMGs
If you have an overwhelming thirst for SMGs that absolutely needs to be quenched or you will die, then try either the Vector or MTAR-X. They're decent, but you will be at a disadvantage on these bigass maps at all times because MSBS/Remington is gonna bust out the lubricant and have a party in your bumbum as soon as you're spotted by anyone.

Just like the assault rifles, you should try to use the focus perk on SMGs at all times. Quickdraw you don't need as much because these guns already ADS pretty fast. You need to spend your points on a shitload of perks and use the specialist package to make this class work. I recommend using a silencer and the following perks:

Ready Up
Sleight of Hand
Agility (not mandatory, but helps)
Marathon (if the map is small, you can replace this with ping)
Takedown (good for flanking)
Dead Silence (also good for flanking, but you can still be heard by amplify users which leads to people camping and listening)
Resilience (depends on the map)
Focus (this should be used on most guns)

Specialist
For the specialist streaks in general, I recommend putting scavenger at 3 and then for 6 and 10, put expensive perks like deadeye, off the grid, wiretap etc. Once you get to the specialist bonus at 12 kills you don't get all the perks like in MW3, so it's been heavily nerfed. You're limited in what you can get for specialist bonus, just choose wisely what perks you want in there.

After playing another hour, I really have to say I am not having fun. I never thought that I would play five TDM in a row in a CoD game where the time limit was reached before the kill limit.

seriously, half my games end because of the timer. the worst part is not seeing anyone one the map for 3 minutes.

Holy shit I totally forgot about the perk that reduces being flinched when hit. I must of missed it since I'm spending most of my points on weapon unlocks.

I was so over being view kicked whenever I had a shoot out with someone.

+1 Lethal perk and two IEDS are essential for my survival and getting kill streaks. Especially with the map design and being able to get attacked from all directions in almost every part of these maps.

Recon is great too although not as good as MW3 where the baddies show up on the mini-map when flashed.

Does anyone know if Ping shows up on just your own mini-map or on your teammates as well?

Was using the honey badger for the longest time but felt that silencer isn't that important in the game with the maps being so large. It can actually be helpful for you to briefly show up on the mini-map to get enemies to come to you and then you can move somewhere else and surprise them from another position. When I'm teamed up with my pals and I haven't seen anyone for a long time I usually fire a few round on purpose to try and draw enemies out.

So far I'm running with the ARX-160 with ACOD and muzzle break. Built-in laser sight seems to help in close combat where you have to hipfire.

I don't like the MSBS with a silencer. I usually use every weapon with a silencer, but I feel like the MSBS benefits more unsilenced. The damage reduction at range is too risky.

I agree with the shotguns. I don't want to say that it's not possible to do well with them, but with the way the maps are designed plus the spawn system, the shotguns are at a disadvantage. They benefit most from running and gunning, but it's really hard to do that when you're always paranoid you'll get shot in the back. You turn around and then the person in front of you that turns the corner shoots you in the back.

Don't have an opinion on the snipers/marksman rifles. Haven't used the latter and the former feel like the same gun as every other CoD.

Magnum sucks dick. I think I would rather have a semi-auto sniper as a CQC gun then the Magnum. They both do about the same damage but at least I can shoot the sniper semi-fast. If you don't kill in one shot with the Magnum or if you miss completely, you are beyond fucked. The other pistols aren't that bad though. As long as you can engage from medium or closer range (which isn't always easy), you can win with them against most people. That's not to say that they're good, but they're about the same as every other pistol like them since CoD4.

SMGs aren't that bad either. You just absolutely can't engage at longer than mid-range unless you have better aim and you're burst firing. Even then, it's hard considering how fast ARs drop people. At CQC, SMG hipfire dominates. I like whatever the fastest fire rate SMG is with rapid fire on. I barely lose firefights at up to mid range and at far range, I still feel like I have a chance. If you are stubborn (like me) then be careful with a silencer on an SMG. It'll take you like 6-7 bullets to kill someone at range.

Man I'm addicted to this game but christ they need to fix the spawns badly. This is like Black Ops 1 launch bad. There is no reason AT ALL on Stonehaven that I should be spawned 5 feet away from any enemy. Complete shit.

I've discovered the pure joy that running a MTAR-X with grip/silencer, no tacs/lethal and a shit ton of perks brings. Omg it's just so TASTY. I'm literally slapping players with ARs at mid range.

I even had the (mis)fortune of joining a hacked lobby on Dom. The score was like over 1500 on one side and no one had broken 100 kills lul smh. They also had turned on complete radar sweeps so no one was able to sneak around. A lot of the kids were being really obnoxious with the sniper rifles, which aren't a problem with one or two snipers, but when you got four guys running the L86 it gets ridiculous lol. But me and my MTAR-X gave it to em good <3

I hope someone from Infinity Ward / Activision reads the following:

- I'm buying CoD Ghosts under the assumption that you have confidence in your product.
- Constant "BALANCE" updates to the multiplayer component show that you DO NOT have confidence in your product.
- This is one of my main gripes with Treyarch. They release a game and then proceed to "rebalance" the weapons over and over again. I do not support anything released by Treyarch and I will be vocal about it with my friends.
- Whenever a CoD game is released, a bunch of uninformed people say that everything that kills them is "overpowered". You have set a PRECEDENT that you do not listen to these people. Although there are exceptions such as MW2: Akimbo Model 1887 or MW3: Akimbo FMGs, those are few and far between. That is WHY I'm buying your game. Do not disappoint me!

I just wanted to put this out there. In the past, I have felt that I could count on the IW team. I just want to make sure that is still the case. There is nothing that is too good right now. People whine about something being too good, then they proceed to perform exactly the same with another weapon. Just don't listen to the crying masses, that is all I ask.

I leave you with the following quote from David Sirlin (replace BAN with NERF):
Only in the most extreme, rare cases should something be banned because it is “too good.” This will be the most common type of ban requested by players, and almost all of their requests will be foolish. Banning a tactic simply because it is “the best” isn’t even warranted. That only reduces the game to all the “second best” tactics, which isn’t necessarily any better of a game than the original game. In fact, it’s often worse!

The only reasonable case to ban something because it is “too good” is when that tactic completely dominates the entire game, to the exclusion of other tactics.

So unless everyone is running around with the SAME weapon, no action should be taken. Feel free to buff anything that seems underpowered though (shotguns are garbage primaries).

How are the squad/bot modes in the game? I get frustrated really easily in MP, mostly because I don't have as much time as I use to. So bot modes are a big selling point for me, is it better or worse than Black Ops 2?

Giant ..over designed maps in a game where you get mowed down by smg's by pure wizardry. You got an AR...an MR.. you empty 3 to 5 shots before they even know youre there..yet they magically shot your toes and you're dead. MW3. To anyone on the fence, dont buy this game. its literally mw3 mixed with bo2.
