Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer discussion thread

If I'm being honest, this perspective on COD games is one of my biggest pet peeves with the franchise's player base.

"If there is an overpowered gun, I'm suing it"
"If there is an overpowered perk, I'm using it"
"If there is a glitch that gives me and advantage, I'm using it"

It's just that obsession to only maximizing the k/d ratio that can be so irritating. It's the reason I so frequently see people laying in corners with their MSBS right now, with their off the grid perk equipped, because those are the two most overpowered things in the game right now.

I ultimately blame Infinity Ward though, because they built the game that is exploited like it is. I am probably weird, but my mentality is usually that if something is overpowered, I'm less likely to use it, because I don't want to be that guy.

So I have yet to enable the Off the grid perk once, and I have barely used the MSBS at all, because I think both are overpowered.

I agree and disagree. I use the MSBS & Off the Grid for a couple reasons (I don't really camp though, I'm no good at that).

One, I SUCK at CoD, and it's the only way I can actually do well enough to enjoy myself. And I am by no means dominating matches, I'm still dead in the middle. And I'd be dead last without something working on my side.

Two, so many people use these advantages that the game basically just ends up balancing itself out again in the end. Never have I seen my radar be SO useless in a CoD, it seems like everyone is using Off the Grid. Which, really, I'm okay with, because I think SAT COMs and radars are dumb and should be taken out, they discourage communicating and strategizing. So since so many people use MSBS and Off the Grid, it has kind of balanced out since not too many people have an advantage anymore. I do think the gun is overpowered, but I'm riding the wave until the inevitable patch.
 
Does every single map change when the 'Nuke' goes off? I thought that was a pretty cool thing to add in.

Nope, just the one map.

The rest of them have some type of "effect" that happens with a KEM Strike. The one map in the manufacturing plant releases toxic gas through the vents that kills the entire enemy team.
 
Anyone else loving the Honey Badger and the Tar?

I find the Honey Badger to be fairly poor at range and the Tar's irons are garbage. Granted the benefit of the HB is the integrated silencer so you can use 2 other attachments, but its still way too weak at range. For SMG I prefer the Vector as its got good irons, and highest dmg/range of the SMG's.
 
But intentionally using weaker guns because you don't wanna be judged for using better guns is like playing a full game of basketball with only 4 people instead of 5.

It's not about being judged. I guess I just approach these games as a sport, and I love competition. Something about taking advantage of things I see as unbalanced just strikes me as lame. I guess I feel a sense of pride in beating the players using OTG and a Honey Badger.

Every single player I come up against, yes.

So i've been playing this since last friday on PS4 (european launch) and I really like it so far.

But the operations seem kind of messy, are there no bonus points for operations in the nextgen versions?
I watched victrix' stream a couple of weeks ago when he played on 360 and the bonus point stuff doesn't show up for me.

They seem to have removed them due to some SP exploit

On the upshot, I think they added other means of earning them ingame, because I'm up to nearly 300 on my current prestige without really going after challenges aggressively

Ah okay, that explains that.
Unlocking stuff also doesn't seem too slow to me. So far, I always felt I got new stuff faster than it took me to get used to the weapons and perks I already have.
 
I haven't played in awhile and just downloaded a patch 1.05 for PS3. The patch notes say it addressed spawns but I don't feel it made a difference. I'm still scared to move an inch so I don't get shot in the back.

Got all kinds of butt frustrated with this on the 360. The PS4 version is a lot clearer and easier to play, I've been going by that guide posted a few pages ago and the game has really turned around for me. I've stopped sprinting everywhere, swapped all my perks to stealthy ones and just stuck with the Honey Badger. Having a lot more fun with the game now. I haven't really learnt all the maps so I don't always do too well, but for the most part I'm getting a half decent KDR.

Agreed. Tar's iron sights are brutal. Funnily enough, if you use the Honey Badger like MW2's Tar, aka short controlled bursts, it becomes usable at longer ranges.
 
This game looks like dog poo on the 360. The visuals are terrible.

The maps are uninspired. No creativity in theme IMO.

That being said, I enjoy the bigger maps. Small maps has been a gripe of mine for some time with this series.

Also, the netcode seems improved. So far it would seem that a lot of the nonsense with 1v1 gunfights is better than it has been in the last few installments.

If you can get your hands on the PS4 version you'd probably be happier. It looks significantly better.

I agree on the bigger maps and netcode. I like the change of pace a big map brings. It's kinda cool to be sneaking through a part of a bigger map, and suddenly run into someone and have an encounter.

Yikes. There isn't some killstreak that equips you with all perks and a minigun right? Unless it's possible with the specialist killstreak style?

He had a juggernaut that he got from a Loki killstreak. But he didn't have to stay alive in order to stack his assault killstreaks. Also he had some weird camo that you can only get by winning clan wars I think, that nobody can possibly have. Also, he had all the perks before he even got the juggernaut.

been playing this quite a bit on ps3, and i hate this fucking game. i put in hardwork to get on a streak, only to get spawn fucked everytime. why the fuck do they spawn people behind you so much.

Clan wars is so unfair! Our clan was in first place by over 49CP and the clan in 2nd place are from Germany. So that's a 6 hr difference. So clan war finishes at 3pm meaning the final 6hrs for us is 9am-3pm while for them it's 3pm-9pm which mean most people would be home from work & school. So long story short.we lost because of time differential, Make it US vs US not US vs other people around the world. The timezone is just not fair.

Holy fuck these spawns are such shit in this game. I barely got it and started playing it yesterday and it's fucking rage inducing. The maps are big enough. Why are you spawning me near enemies only to die the instant I spawn? Ridiculous.

Going down would increase your accuracy for sure. 8 is probably a bit low w/ KF IMO. I'm at 10 w/o KF but it honestly doesn't matter much. Play whatever you feel comfortable with. If you can navigate around the map and turn around in time to kill people sneaking on you then you have no problems at the sensitivity you're at. I've played with guys that use 1-3 sensitivity before and they were beasts but they also camped a lot and just controlled good lines of sight that were power positions (pretty much have to since you are a slug turning and moving around)

As for run and gun.. yeah, kind of. It depends on what game mode you're playing. I mainly play TDM so I can't really give advice for the other modes but run and gun style is definitely possible. The thing you have to realize is that the game rewards campers. There are very few tools you have to win a gun fight against campers. They can hear you coming, they have many corners to hide in, and if you're a relentless rusher you will get picked off by them over and over. The best thing you can do is move into good positions then "patrol" aka counter-camp but take control of power positions where you have good lines of sight and can rotate to a new power position depending on where enemies are spawning.

The spawn system isn't exactly like other CODs (esp BO2). Enemies can still spawn on your side so you have to watch out for that. Use radar, watch your teammates, and make sure you know where the enemy is spawning. Once they spawn in an area they'll usually spawn on that side a couple of times even if it is "contested"

If I was burnt out on COD and BO2 pissed me off with its shotgun/SMG hip-fire nonsense ALL THE TIME, will this one excite me a bit more? I actually like hearing that the levels are larger since it's something they needed to explore and find the middle ground instead of the tiny nade spam maps.

I just don't know where I sit with this one. I'm almost afraid to get it since I'll be setting myself up for disappointment. Graphically, it doesn't bug me that it's not the best looking game out there although I don't like how they approached it, so it's all about the gameplay for me which is something I hope Ghosts improved on.

The large levels are two kinds of bad. You either end up being killed from behind because the spawn system is horrible, or you spend three minutes trying to find someone, until you get killed from behind.

Extinction is really fun though.

Right now, I'm kind of wishing I'd waited for Treyarch.

I don't like how they lowered the health. It was small enough as was, but now accompanied with weird map design makes a hell of a frustration.
Camper will always beat. You can't survive anymore in 1v1 stand-offs due to you precision, now it's all about who was seen first.

Your classes etc carry over from last-gen, so if they were hacked on there then you'd have them on PS4/Xbox One.

Additionally hackers also have the benefit of the mobile app as an attack vector which is obviously independent of platform.

Getting real tired of getting shot in the back because someone came in one of the 40 entrances in a room.
Don't go in those rooms.

Also to the people moaning about getting shot in the back constantly, your situational awareness needs improving. It is quite easy to learn spawn routines in COD and to know when people will no longer be spawning in front of you. Knowing where all the players on your team are on the map is key to this.

Also try some other game modes, some have easier spawn routines than others. Domination is very easy to get to grips with.

They have made all sort of odd choices, the net code wasn't exactly great at times keeping up with the crazy going on in earlier games, now we can slide around and all sorts which doesn't help. Then as you mention you have so little health and die so quickly you rarely if ever have time to react to someone shooting you unless it is long range or they can't aim for shit.

Then there are the maps, for some reason every room has to have a bunch of ways in meaning there's usually too many to cover. This then has essentially destroyed sniping as they are supposed to be used , or "hard scoping" if you will which is ridiculous that it is called that. You no longer can really "camp" as it were, which is what snipers are supposed to do, then of course quick scoping came in which is a ridiculously broken mechanic as it is.

So yea, lots of odd and stupid decisions that generally has just made things worse.

I wish the weapon info/stats were more accurate. Like adding a silencer to marksman rifle will definitely lower the fire rate.

There are still good LoS but you're right, you can't sit on them the whole game with the exception of a couple of spots (bakery is a good example; really only 1 way in) since most of them have 2-3 entry points.

On top of that they made the other camping VERY strong with almost zero drawback. You actually get rewarded for sitting in a random corner now and there are very few ways to counter it other than being a complete beast and being able to walk through a doorway and clear every corner in the room.

OTOH if you are willing to dedicate 8 points to it, noob tubing is stronger than it's ever been in a COD which completely shits on campers. I mainly just use double toobs now and "pre-clear" every room I enter.

I've finally started to "panic knife" anytime I'm remotely near an enemy, jesus the knifing in this game is ridiculous. It's like a magnet even if you're not facing them directly.

Is this different to the grenade launcher weapon attachment? I found the attachment to be weak, and with the slow reload and fire rate it's useless.

2. Having played all my previous CoD on the 360 and now playing on the PS4...I'm out of luck as far as getting all of the backgrounds and stuff that come from reaching max prestige in Blops2 correct?

Run, hold slide and shoot fuckers.

It's unwieldy as hell, but entirely possible if you try it enough. I did it mostly around corners. Equip amplify so you can hear someone coming, then slide around corner and pop them.

Now doing the slide + stab is still not happening for me.
