Despite my general dislike of guest characters, I think a Final Fantasy rep in Smash is a good idea. Nintendo and Final Fantasy used to have a very strong connection. That being said, I think selecting Cloud is a lazy and disingenuous choice. His links to any Nintendo systems are quite tenuous and it was most likely done to promote SE as opposed to celebrate any facet of Nintendo history. Should of been Terra or Cecil, as they definitely have the strongest ties to Nintendo history.

But I'm not gonna complain on and on about it, it's done. I'm not really that upset by it (I'm more upset we didn't get any other character confirmations today) and I know there's lots of people that will be happy with this, so congrats to them.
