I've been playing this and it's great. idk what "masterpiece" means exactly, but it's great.
Your bizarre policing of what constitutes a masterpiece or not based purely on review scores is getting a bit tedious.
Anyway, I'm surprised Eurogamer and RPS don't have reviews up.
This thread is so strange. Console wars are serious biz.
I didn't know having an opinion was "policing". Also, review scores makes a lot of sense as a metric in a review thread. Thinking an 86 isn't really masterpiece levels is a very valid opinion to have.
that bias against XBOX... I mean I knew that there is a huge bias against xbox 1 in the industry and online community... I mean its pretty clear.. BUT this HUGE? PC 90 and XB1 86? wtf

100% incorrect since this is a review thread. I have the same access to reviews that he does. He's welcome to say he gives it a masterpiece rating based on his own impressions (better suited in the OT).
Ori is below 90 MC as well - which was ridiculous two and a half years ago and still is.
Volgarr is insanely good. I'd argue that there hasn't been a great arcade action-platformer since its release (unless this game surprises me with a hidden arcade mode maybe hopefully? , and when it came out it was the best since Hard Corps Uprising.
Masterpiece.
I'm in world two, and there are definitely way more boss levels than platforming style levels. Probably like 2:1 or 3:1 between the two (maybe it changes in later worlds though). The platforming levels are nice as they are a bit more laid back than the bosses, so it helps to break up the game a bit.
.This is a full on exclusive for Xbox right? Or like PUBG will land on other systems later?
Yes, this Cuphead game is exclusive to Xbox and PC (with Steam and Win10 versions at launch and a GoG release likely shortly after). There will likely be a Mac version down the road and possibly a Linux version beyond that (unless we lose our houses or whatever).
We own the Cuphead IP.
Thanks man, good to know. Will we be seeing this game in crazy crisp 4K on One X or no patch announced yet?
how's the lengh for a normal playthrough? im expecting 5-6 hours

How can we be happy for Xbox fans if we don't know what level of exclusive it is? Like if it's a true exclusive I'm super happy for them, if it's like PUBG I'm mildly happy they get to feel special for a bit.Stealth Port Begging much? Seriously just be happy that the Xbox fans also get to have a fun game for their system. They don't often get an "exclusive" like this. On top of that, just play it on PC then. You can get it at GOG and Steam too.

Iirc it's coming to Mac and Linux as well at some point, but is console exclusive to Xbox.If you're just seeking clarification, all signs indicate this will remain PC and Xbox exclusive forever.

Superlatives describing Cuphead: masterpiece, revelation, tour de force, piece de resistance, masterclass, crowning achievement, cream of the crop, magnum opus, masterwork. I don't know which ones we're allowed to use for an 86 MC though.

How are this game's characters and enemies rendered, they're not actually high resolution sprites, right? Are they polygons/3D?
It's 2d hand-drawn animation.
Yeah I've read/heard about that, but I thought maybe they somehow convert/project the hand drawn animation onto 3D objects for game engine purposes or whatever (I'm no expert).. But you're saying the game is actually drawing and manipulating 2D sprites? It's confusing me because I've never seen a 2D game look this good before.

Do the art assets scale natively to 4K on PC? I imagine there's a limit to the resolution of the scanned animation after which it would have to upscale the pixels and introduce artifacts/blur (if you were to run it at 8K in the future for example).

Wait this is on Steam too? I thought it was Windows Store only. Maybe I will play it one day then.Stealth Port Begging much?
