Not a hardcore gamer, but she dabbles: Sims, Animal Crossing, It Takes Two. Recently she got really into Hogwarts Legacy which was cool. I think that's her first big open world game.

I feel like everyone's parents game'd, when you think of games like super Mario 64, or ocarina of time those games are synonymous with everyone, I know moms and dads who game.
I've had games since my very first memories, yet mom and dad both never, not even once, played anything with a controller - my dad only played Solitaire, and Duke Nukem 3D once when I was like 6 just to see what our fancy first ever computer could do.
Always found it odd how they had no problem buying new games for me, and absolutely had no problem what that new game was. I guess I made my dad really proud always having a pixelated titty save thumbnail in Duke 3D.
Yes, she playing pokopia and diablo 4, we play a lot games together too, we finished borderands series, gears series, halo infinite, resident evil thank god she love gaming
My wife is a gamer as well and my mother is the best arkanoid player i have ever seen. Anybody remember that game? I had the nes version with the controller and she put my friends and i to shame. My wife and i have been told we look like a real life version of Jason and Lucia
If Nintendo games aren't a must have, IMO, Legion Go S Z1E is great (with SteamOS) if you can find a deal. Otherwise one of Asus handhelds (again with SteamOS loaded) would also work well.
An Android handheld is also good but more targeted toward pure emulation with a some capability to play PC games depending on the chipset and game in question.

My wife isn't much of a gamer these days but she does hop on mobile games like Candy Crush etc. She also gets really sucked into Diablo on occasion though she doesn't play any 'big' games beyond that.
I hit a treasure trove some years after we got married though. We were clearing out her old boxes in the garage and she casually asked me if I wanted to own her old Gameboy Color and NDS. I had never even seen those in person since I wasn't much of a gamer at the time.
