Incorrect, when MS dropped Vanguard is when SOE swooped in and got it for extremely cheap. SOE actually profited on Vanguard from what people said due to how little they paid for it.

The code and engine were so horrible for that game it was beyond fixing though. SOE gave it a shot though.

Ohh ya! You are right, forgot about MS... crazy to think they were putting money into this back then

gotta say, even if a profitable move

it just helped to consolidate SOE name as the brand for sub-par MMOs

Yeah, seriously. If Lizard Squad thinks this is solely their accomplishment, well then, they're even bigger egotistical morons than their image shows.

Like I said before, Lizard Squad or not, this was inevitable. Daybreak had been brought to ruin under Smedley's leadership, and it was only a matter of time before pressure came for him to step down. Daybreak has gone through a lot of crap that would have caused less fortunate MMO houses to fold (Hell, most MMOs that take as long as Planetside 2 to become profitable tend to be shut down by that point), and TBH Lizard Squad's recent bollocks has only been icing on the cake.

And hell, I'd wager PS2 got special treatment being a DB internal project. Third party MMOs that DB published that failed to produce results within timespans smaller than PS2's unprofitable period got shut down within barely a year. RIP Wizardry Online.
