how is a $60 game with micro transactions of the kind shown here, laughable?
Seriously?
Because of content held back to be sold, because of grinds tailored to entice purchase of microtransactions, and because of - according to those screens - fucking timers added to the game for no good reason that to push premium accelerators. You're getting the full game. Why should it be cheaper just because it has microtransactions? We don't even know how the microtransactions affect the economy.
Drop timers too? Kill it with fire.
What makes you say that, if, as you say, they chose those screens in particular? If they chose to reveal the microtransactions screens in particular, they obviously wanted to damage the brand. If those screens are correct in any way, then that really, really sucks.
Microtransactions ruin 95% of the games they are in; the remaining 5% are single match based multiplayer games that are competitive based, and as such, are significantly smaller in scope than any single player game because they can only function with the round/match competition based gameplay.
While people may have played a multiplayer, competitive based game for hundreds of hours, that doesn't mean that it has a lot of exciting variety or content; the length completely relies on competition between players; people who want to beat the other player(s), and become more skilled to beat more.
New items or content means very little in these types of games compared to single player games; getting a new weapon or ability is nowhere near as exciting, as the only question is whether or not that item or content allows you to be a better player, and if not, it's essentially worthless. The only items and content that matter are the things that you take with you into each match, and it tends to be the same exact items for all the players or all the classes.
Not that you even would have time to appreciate the graphics beyond a second or two; after that, the only thing that matters is what makes you more efficient at defeating the other player(s).
Not to mention that they don't offer the same type of reward or satisfaction that single player games do; in competitive based games, the satisfaction, obviously, comes from asserting your dominance or that you are a good player, like in any real world sport.
I understood the reference
- In JC2, you couldn't buy in-game money with real money. Personally I don't have a problem for offering the option to do so, as long as they don't purposely make it hard to come by in-game, but it is good for those who just want to unlock everything from the get-go and don't care about money. (Of course, the much better way would be to have cheat codes and Action Replays like in the past...)
I must admit, I was silently looking forward to this game. I even avoided by JC2 hoping the fan reaction will force them to make JC3, which I will play in all it's glory. But now...
Deus Ex strikes me as something that would make the most sense to monetize with a season pass unless they have a BioWare-esque online mode.Would Deus Ex's target audience even be willing to shell out for MTs?
That audience doesn't strike me as one to just open their wallets.
Lower risks for major titles through, e.g.,use of external funds
Simply choosing to allow players to buy currency with cash influences design decisions, like it or not. Once that barrier has been crossed, it's then in the company's best interest to annoy their players just enough to get them to pay.
I also love the PRESS Y TO BUY DIAMONDS prompt in the main objectives screen. What a joke.
I'm not sure what you're asking here. What I'm saying is that we've been provided screenshots that without context are undeniably (and likely purposefully) harmful to the public perception of the game. It isn't like whoever did this tossed out a shitty screenshot of what looks like a placeholder pipe asset on a generic stone texture background or an aerial shot with worse detail and draw distance than JC2 because he/she had absolutely no other shots or way of taking more. These are all out here because someone wanted to take a deuce on Avalanche. We got more microtransaction screenshots because that's what gained the most negative traction.
What I'm also saying is that getting upset over the possibility that the screens are "correct in any way" without the context of the game's pay model, finalized microtransactions, or any other solid pricing details is an uninformed kneejerk reaction that's just doing a disservice to yourself.

Just off the top of my head.
Well, I guess this explains why they had a microtransactions person at Avalanche NYC.
Also, can you imagine the next Deus Ex?
What, you want to actually examine the environment and find ammo/small stashes of weapons/tools? Maybe some sidequests and exploration to get Praxis points and extra EXP? Well you could, but we've deliberately discouraged that as much as possible because we would REALLY love you to open the store and teleport some weapons and ammo into your hands at an instant using only the power of your credit card. You know, just like what Deus Ex is about!
Shinobi instills me with some hope that it won't happen - that it may be an unmolested true sequel (please), but I still can't be complacent. There's ample time for them to do something like this to it if God forbid, "paymium" is construed by major publishers as successful.
And this is why I want SE to sell Eidios.
They've no fucking idea.
Bye bye Just Cause.
Bye bye Sleeping Dogs.
Two series who, against all odds, had fantastic entries that would a secured a purchase from me for the sequel if they had decided to stay the course.
Astounding.
For someone out of the loop, what's wrong with Dogs? Played it and thoroughly enjoyed it when it first came out, and I don't remember anything about microtransactions? My brain must have employed some unconscious, synapse-driven version of adblock.

Please tell me that's just a cruel joke from the Onion. Two more leaked screenshots from the AGB Twitter.
He's talking about the sequel, Triad Wars, that looks like poop.
