Mario Kart 8 DLC pricing confirmed ($7.99 each or $11.99 for both, 16 tracks)

wow.

where's all the people that kept bitching that Link wouldn't fit in Mario Kart?

Tbh, I'm in the "don't mix other nintendo universes with mario kart" camp.

But when the 2 things I learn are:

1. They are mixing the universes
2. Mario Kart 8 is getting 16 new tracks

It's like I stubbed my toe at the same time as I scratched out a million dollars in a lottery ticket, I really don't give a fuck because this amazing overall.

ahh, okay. Yeah, I'm pre-ordering this instantly.

The more I think of it, this is probably the best DLC ever made, in the history of gaming.

* 6 playable characters, including Link
* 8 new tracks, including Zelda tracks, and F-Zero, and Animal Crossing
* new vehicles
* new colors for existing characters

all for less than $1 a track. That is just legendary. I don't think anything like this has ever been done this well, for this price.

16 tracks, not 8. SIXTEEN!!!

This is even better than I would've dreamed. With First Light and Mario Kart, there is proof that DLC can be done right. PROOF. Day 1. Day -1. BAM.

Why not? The Mario Kart universe has been mixed for years already. Ever since Mario Kart: Arcade GP with Pac-Man and the rest of Namco' characters (Inky, Mrs. Pac-Man, Mametachi, and Don).

This is the secret 4th timeline split where Link decided to leave Hyrule and become a racer. It's set in the distant past of F-Zero. Fox and Falco are also part of this timeline in one ending where they did the same thing.

Smash Bros. are just voodoo dolls from a crazy omnipotent force the Master Hand taking every character's soul in every universe and placing them in dolls forcing them to compete for their own survival. It's non-canon though.

That's nitpicking. I'd honestly just rather have battle arenas added down the line in place of this. The balancing is fine, as it's a kart racer and there's something beautiful about the mayhem.

Ehh can't agree with that. Heavies are too good in this game and light weights are just too slow to keep up.

I laughed.

I showed my girlfriend, and she laughed too.

12 bucks? Man it costs as much to get costumes for 6 characters in fighters(not quite true but still). Pretty amazing for characters, 16 tracks, and new carts. I look forward to the F-Zero tracks.

I'm still amazed that they were a MM nerf and accel tier fix away from pretty much nailing the balance in MK7 but winded up with... this.

Though coincidentally, the one time I used Rosalina over Yoshi when trying out the demo today was the time I got 4th. Yes, I got 4th against 100cc opponents. Speaking of which, I really hope that stupid stutter gets patched out at some point. It's so disorienting to me. I had forgotten entirely about the stutter since that drama was months old so it caught me off-guard.

I guess that didn't bother me because its just some arcade game that I barely played... not a direct entry in the franchise. Just like how some dlc characters outside the mario universe doesn't change the core version of mario kart 8 from being a mario game.

Lol 3rd post NAILED IT (Denzel BOOM! hahahahah!)

Yea honestly this is easily the best DLC news i've EVER heard! I had a blast with Mario Kart 8 (first Matrio Kart i've ever bought....but definately not played) and I thought it was a little skimpy on the content (even though purchase is more than worth it as Friday races at a mates place were some of the best gaming experiences this year). I can't believe there are going to be another 16 tracks for like $12! And that's not even including the extra characters and vehicles etc.

Just amazing! Great news for a great game!

Definitely preordering, just a little sad that the first pack adds the Blue Falcon and an F-Zero stage but not Captain Falcon... I would have taken Captain Falcon over Cat Peach and Tanooki Mario.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
This is awesome.

DLC done right !

DLC done right is adding content for free so as to reward existing owners and entice purchases from the more hesitant (CDPR, Valve, the occasional indie), but considering the reality we live in, the prices are certainly quite good.

Super Mario Kart 8 releasing in June 2015 is quite possible after NSLU so I will be skipping the dlc unless a complete edition does not show up.

No, that's called feeling entitled.

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Australian PR for the doubters. Jeez I practically work there.

MARIO KART 8 AOC PACKS TO ADD 16 NEW COURSES, PLUS NEW DRIVERS AND KARTS

Link, Isabelle and Animal Crossing Villager all get ready to race!

27th August 2014 – Two new downloadable add-on content packs will take the world of Mario Kart 8 for Wii U in directions the series has never seen before, while significantly expanding gameplay options. The packs, available by the end of November 2014 and end of May 2015 respectively, will be available for pre-purchase from tonight at AU$10.00/NZ$14.00 each (or AU$16.00/NZ$20.00 for both), and deliver an array of new content, including first-time crossover characters like Link from The Legend of Zelda series and both Isabelle and the Villager from the Animal Crossing series.

In addition to these two new add-on content packs, a previously announced game update will go live tonight that adds a variety of new features, including three free Mercedes-Benz cars that players can race: the modern Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s and the legendary Silver Arrow of the 1930s. As well as game updates, mariokart.tv, the Mario Kart TV web service optimised for smart devices, has also been updated to give  users more in-depth game data whilst on the go, including the ability to check at any given time whether friends are playing Mario Kart 8 online.

Each AOC pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of available courses by 50 percent. The AOC packs include classics like Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first AOC pack.

Mario Kart 8 owners who purchase both packs will get access to eight new colours of Yoshi and eight new colours of Shy Guy to race with immediately. To purchase the packs prior to release, users with a broadband Internet connection can click the new ‘Shop’ icon in the game or visit Nintendo eShop on Wii U.

The AOC packs are scheduled to include the following contents:

·         3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link

NSLU was practically an entirely new Mario game and a retail release was announced at the same time the digital release date was revealed. Nintendo does not do Capcpom-yearly releases, do not get your hopes up.
