DS needs something to spark sales. When was the last time it got something big? The DQ/FF remakes?
Judging by this week's sales, they're buying games for them?Christopher said:one week at 60,000 and we're calling for a saturation point/decline? The DS has plenty of steam left.
MY GOD what are they doing with those PSPs!?!

It's not dying, it's still got a lot of future a head of it. DQIX will spark sales, and don't forget the DS is still without any price drops. And games are still coming, a lot of them.sphinx said:DS sales show a trend that has nothing to do with other consoles, be it PSP, PS2 or Wii.
When I say the DS is dying, I am NOT implying that the PSP is beating it. PSP is doing o.k but it will never ever reach the success of the DS, it is too late for that.
.- it's reaching a saturation point.
.- the newer consoles are releasing very interesting offerings, making people pay more attention to them and making them forget about other things ( DS in this case )
.- As software developer, Nintendo is done with the DS. I can't really think of any worthy announcement regarding the DS in months.
thats my definition of " beginnig to die ". For me, these are clear indicators of the beginning of the end ( a little hyperbole there but yeah, you know what I mean ).

Wii 94,473
PSP 72,528
DS Lite 67,472
PS3 41,796
PS2 12,115
Xbox 360 6,060
Abit different from Famitsu, atleast on PS3 and Wii.
dont forget that Dragon Quest IX has yet to drop in Japan. that will definitely spark interest in DS again for a while.sphinx said:DS sales show a trend that has nothing to do with other consoles, be it PSP, PS2 or Wii.

when you hit rock bottom and start to dig, there really isnt any way but up._leech_ said:So the PS3 got a bigger boost than Famitsu predicted. Still lower than what I thought i'd be, but still a nice increase from this point last year (below 20K).
D.Lo said:PSP remains a mystery. 72k hardware, and based on the charts almost certainly less then 40k software total. Considering most of the WE buyers probably already had the machine, around 50k new PSP owners this week are pirating something, be it games or movies.
Innotech said:when you hit rock bottom and start to dig, there really isnt any way but up.
yes rock bottom. the fact that another console did it too doesnt change the fact._leech_ said:Rock bottom? The 360 in Japan is what i'd call rock bottom.
I'm guessing, like a lot of other people are, that the PSP is being seen as more of a multimedia device. That really does explain the software sales too.MechaX said:Eh. The DS still has three more DQs to drop (V, VI, and IX).
But I just wonder where this PSP boost is coming from.

DS is reaching the point where every gamer in Japan already owns one. It can't keep out selling everything forever, there is a limit.test_account said:Seems that the new hardware numbers are up:

Nice PS3 numbers and the PSP just keeps going up. That slim really done the trick and now Sony need a slim PS3 so we can get a similar reaction and they need it perferrably before FFXIII hits the market.

You're really not above hitting below the belt, are you? :lolAniHawk said:So at this rate, how many more months will it take the PSP to catch the DS?

PSP beat DS for quite a few weeks after launch in Japan.Arde5643 said:You're really not above hitting below the belt, are you? :lol
Let them have their fun - it's rare for PSP to beat DS in anything, y'know.

Yeah, JoshuaSlone used to do those things quite often. Still does, I think.Innotech said:PSP beat DS for quite a few weeks after launch in Japan.
Nah the 360's rock bottom is so bad that it passes right through the centre of the Earth and goes to the other side of rock bottom.xaosslug said:actually, no. If PS3 is the definition of 'rock bottom' that would put 360 somewhere near the center of the Earth, or beyond.
