Gamescom ''gameplay'' trailer of Killzone 4 by Square-Enix cgi studios ending with PS4 logo. Kutaragi enters the stage and starts talking about 5D experience.
Do it Sony.

Published on Aug 10, 2012
PS3 users can now start streaming movies instantly thanks to Instant Play, just revealed by Sony.
"No more hanging around watching loading bars the content you choose is available at the click of a button, leaving you more time to watch the things you love," reads the description.
The PlayStation Store video store will offer both standard and high definition movies with Instant Play.
It looks like a 32nm Xbox 360 is coming but PS3 nothing but testing @ 22nm. Just one person who may not have worked PS3 projects as much as Xbox.PlayStation 3

It confirms part of what I have been saying, a Xbox 360 refresh @32nm is coming and most likely the Oban chip produced by IBM and GloFlo8 is for the XBOX 360 not the WiiU or Xbox 720.Assume I'm an idiot Jeff.
What does this mean!?!? (I have an idea... but I don't want to guess and sound stupid).

For the PS3, just testing for 22nm which doesn't tell us much. In early 2010 news had Sony skipping the 32nm process node and a guess was they were waiting for 22nm. This testing of 22nm listed might be early 2010 and then nothing as there would be a completely different design/cache array and different project if my speculation is correct. Really it tells us nothing of PS3 plans.

As I've never downloaded a movie on PS3, how does this differ from normal, did the whole file need to be saved first?

I'm sure its been discussed but do we still have no idea when to expect a concrete announcement or even release date? The MGS4 update has me wanting a new PS3 pretty bad since my last one failed on me a few months ago.
Not necessarily. You would start downloading a movie but then have an option from the XMB to play it as it downloaded. This is likely a small change to purchasing/renting where the streaming option is presented to you immediately.
Well I'd still hold out for Gamescom announcement for an instant price cut or announcement.
No, it's instant and they have preview mode. It's a IPTV DASH player with full screen mode. This is the first time SONY has had this feature and the player/dialog box can be used for HTML5 <video>.As I've never downloaded a movie on PS3, how does this differ from normal, did the whole file need to be saved first?
Is that relatively soon? If not, I guess I have the 3DS XL and Darksiders 2 to hold me over.

Maybe with good reason. Having to listen for both WiFi G & N adds latency to a response. There is already time sliced Blu-tooth & WiFi to deal with.So wireless N is pretty much ruled out for this new Slim model?

I guess what I find odd is I've rented 3 movies over the last 2-3 weeks, & the option to stream was there already. Idk why this is just being announced now... Imma look over my email to get the confirmation email & date of my rentals...
Edit. Last movie I rented was July 28th, the option to stream was there then if not before...

Has anyone confirmed this? Nowgamer is the only source. It seems weird that Sony would announce a (sorta) significant feature and wouldn't even send out a press release or email blast etc.
Yup. I know... Had the option to do either, I downloaded them, but the option to stream was there.Streaming is different from downloading it to your hard drive and watching it as it downloads.

They also included it on their weekly NA newsletter and are promoting it on the US PS site. There was a PR and it was on the EU PS Blog.
Indeed, it's an important distinction if you don't have enough free disk space to download the movie, previously you couldn't watch the whole movie. Now, presumably, you can. Important for people picking up the 16GB models...Streaming is different from downloading it to your hard drive and watching it as it downloads.
So not for Xbox 720 but might be for Xbox 360 2012 refresh????? This assuming the "source" is accurate. This makes sense given what the GPU has to support but also the I/O interface included with the GPU.The new GPU for the next-gen Xbox (whatever it is finally named) will be from the 2011′s AMD 6000 series, much like the Radeon HD 6670, this GPU will support DirectX11, 1080p HD, multi-display output and 3D. This according to IGN, who is citing sources close to the project.

So is this thing getting revealed sometime during Gamescom or what? I'm getting kinda ansty to replace my dead phat already.
Not looking like it. If they were gonna announce it at the show they would have done so during the press conference. So is this thing getting revealed sometime during Gamescom or what? I'm getting kinda ansty to replace my dead phat already.
Evidently not, at it wasn't at the presser. Previous rumours suggest they are waiting for current stock levels to drop, but it's just as likely they're waiting for Nintendo to price and date the WiiU so they can jump in.
Any idea as to when its most likely to be announced because right now theres a really great deal going and i cant wait any longer!

So now we have:http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/20/sony-shrugs-off-ps3-4000-chatter/ said:SCEE CEO Jim Ryan has skirted around talk of a long-rumoured super slim PS3 model when probed at gamescom. Sony was rumoured to unveil the new model at its conference but it didnt materialise.
Speaking with CVG, the Sony exec was asked why the PS3-4000 wasnt mentioned at Sonys pre-gamescom conference last week, to which he replied, Which new PS3″, before laughing it off.
When asked why the new model wasnt mentioned, Ryan replied, Well, we had so much to talk about on the software side, and thats all we wanted to talk about.
The denial follows rumours that Sony had planned to unveil the PS3-4000 on August 14.
I'm waiting for this + The Last Guardian to take the plunge (lol).
I wouldn't read into that statement at all. If older inventory is too high and they are trying to sell it off, what logical reason would there be to admit that there is a 'newer' model on the way?So now we have:
1) inventory of older PS3s too high
2) Well, we had so much to talk about on the software side, and thats all we wanted to talk about.
What's to talk about? We already had a Slim so a Super slim shouldn't be much different; right? Or there are differences and new features? But the Technoblog pictures confirm no external difference and they are accurate; right? Just does not make sense for just a cheaper PS3 refresh.
If the newer hardware has no new feature and in fact has LESS with a flip lid Blu-ray drive not front load then what reason would anyone have to buy the new one over the old one?I wouldn't read into that statement at all. If older inventory is too high and they are trying to sell it off, what logical reason would there be to admit that there is a 'newer' model on the way?
So how is this new model going to trash sales of older models?
So how is this new model going to trash sales of older models?
The whole point of the new model is that they can sell it cheaper than the current PS3's. If they come out with a cheaper model, nobody is going to buy the more expensive one. And Sony can't afford to take a huge loss slashing the price on current inventory.
If this is true they are going to hurt themselves if it doesnt come out for this christmas. The whole point of the new model is that they can sell it cheaper than the current PS3's. How do they get a significant price drop when they are just condensing parts into a smaller 1 pound lighter case. Shipping costs? The difference between a flip lid drive and front loader $5.00 (correct if wrong). So $15 dollar difference including shipping? The whole point of the new model is that they can sell it cheaper than the current PS3's. This is a good point but Software sales is where Sony makes the majority of it's money. Seems we have seen the PS3 sold at a loss before. The time to reduce inventory would be when multiple new titles come out that appeal to a large audience and create new PS3 owners but that's when Sony will want cheaper PS3s (PS3 4000 chassis) in any case. I don't think the price argument holds much weight and suspect the new PS3 has new features that will make the older PS3s hard to sell at any price. Everyone disagrees with this though.zomgbbqftw said:Given their FY projections vs shipments Sony are probably sitting on 1-2m worth of PS3 inventory which would need writing down if they released a new cheaper model. On a mid-point estimate a 20% write down would incur a $70m charge, something Sony can ill-afford right now. A month delay is hardly going to make a difference for the new model which will be in production until 2014 and if it saves them $70m it seems like it is worth it.
