Played me some Dangun Feveron last night. Reaaaaaaaaaaally impressed with this Cave title. The music makes it so fun with all that funky bass. Also really fun picking up falling disco folk instead of coins or gold like normal lol.

I found it interesting you got to customize your ships, shot, speed, and whatever even between continues mid game. Haven't really seen that one before. Also fun to play as "The cat from cave's Puzzle Uo Poko with the cheat code".

Another late night and another Cave shmup for me (damn I love this arcade).

Finally after all these years of owning Pink Sweets from the Muchi Pork Combo I can jump in on its legendary predecessor Ibara!
I was totally not prepared for how awesome its soundtrack was.

Also was not prepared for the incredibly loud, fire alarm like beep sound from the countdown clock after popping in my quarters. Holy shit its like 10 times louder than it should be (might be my settings...probably).

Game is wild to try and score because you gotta pick up the same weapons on the same side ships. If righty got a machine gun you better be picking up that item when enemies drop it with it. Plus this game HEAVILY requires bomb usage to produce medals to max out medals for good scores meaning its one you gotta suicide in at times. Its neat because you have the normal bomb and bomb fragments that you pick up to make your spread for bombs but you can use also use fragments as mini bombs. Plus holding bomb lets your fire it like a heavy shot and this thing nullifies all kinds of stuff and makes roses.

Shoot the things and dont die. Wait no die its good for you. Use the bombs. Wait no save the bombs. Grab the weapons. Wait only grab them on one side....yeesh my head spins.

Absolutely had to do research before playing this thing. If you dont suicide enough your rank goes up and the difficulty soars. You gotta score high for extends, collect stuff for bombs, suicide and blow through bombs a lot. Its nuts. God is it a hype ride though. Its gonna take me forever but I wanna keep running this one. At least theres a reward for dying in this one and I can totally say "oh yeah...that was...on purpose" . Game is rough to score but soooooo good to play that it makes you want to get good at controlling rank, balancing bomb fragments and bomb supply, scoring and medal chasing. Its gonna take awhile to just survive though first.

This game and Progear need ported sooooooooo badly.

FINAL BOSS creators have a twitter up now.

Maybe this means they are ramping up development of the game? It's been worked on for several years now. Seems like they are adding more and more to the game. Here's a screen shot of the starting section

Looking so much better from previous iterations of the game.

Cool, indeed!

I'll wait winter sales to buy my next group of shmups: SnR2 will be the first, of course.

I would gladly buy it right now but, damn, I literally have no money left for videogames this month :(

Do any of you use a mechanical keyboard with O-rings? I'm thinking of getting O-rings for my Logitech G610 with Cherry Reds to reduce finger fatigue and shorten the key rebound time.

Does it have the same save/continue system from the original Hydorah? I couldn't really get into it because of that.

Apparently it has infinite continues, and it saves on the map screen. Score is reset upon use of a continue, of course. Sounds like the right move.

RPS posted a fun little blurb on Cambria Sword, a Japanese doujin shmup. I haven't sprung for it (and it's doomed to obscurity in the West until it's on Steam), but if anyone else has, let us know what you think:

I played very little of it but it's amazingly creative and fun and it's hard as hell. I'm not the biggest hori fan but Cambria Sword is the bee's knees.

Raiden V Director's Cut is ready on Steam (29€ circa in my country), -15% off.

Can't buy it right now buy I will buy it in Winter Sale, for sure!

Raiden V's presentation is pretty slick. Only nit picks is that it doesn't go above 1080p and I know this is going to sound blasphemous, but a higher refresh rate would have helped this game tremendously. The environments and bullets are moving so quickly that 120FPS would have helped clear things up quite alot.

Other than that the game is damn fun. Loving the cheer and weaponry systems.

Holy hell have you guys seen this new bullet grind shooty called Shikhondo-Soul Eater?
This shit is legit Its got some absolutely crazy patterns to it and its gorgeous with its yokai theme.

This is $10 and it looks pretty good. The music is sounds great too. I think I'll give it a shot.

Edit: It supports 4K resolution too... something a lot of big name Shmups can't seem to do.

I'd love 120hz for sure, but I was actually pretty okay with visibility on my 2014 ROG Swift and on my plasma with the XBO version.

It's weird playing the game with so much cheering. The XBO version is a little sparser.

Yeah all the cheering (PS4 version) kind of gets...bothersome after awhile? I had no idea what was going on and racked up like 100+. Whats the function behind it?

At least Raiden V doesn't attempt to do exclusive fullscreen with whatever resolution it's capped at. That drives me up the wall. It would be nice if it actually rendered at whatever resolution you set it at, but whatever.

No local copies of Raiden V so far, will probably just order online.

I got Dangun Feveron about a month ago, really fun shmup and easy to get into. Really hope M2 also gives us a ShotTriggers port of DoDonPachi at some port.

Raiden V would look amazing with a boost in resolution. I tried forcing AA with reshade, but it just crashes the game.

TBH, I don't get what it is with JP shmups and not supporting things like this. Like, of all the shmups in my steam library, only a handful like DariusBurst and Revolver360 play nice with higher resolutions, and I think Revolver360 might be the only one to support higher framerates, period am a dumb. Why do so many shmups feel like they're all running legacy code, or something?

Raiden V backgrounds are just too fast for me it really bothers my eyes, kind of sad about it because I like the game mechanics but don't feel I can enjoy it properly.

That's the way I fell about it. I feel at a higher refresh rate the fast moving backgrounds wouldn't have such a horrible ghosting issue. The issue with that is not many people have the hardware capable of enjoying higher refresh rates and higher resolutions.

I came to confess that I have been spelling this genre "SHUMP" my entire life.

We're talking in published work, folks.

Nobody said anything until I discussed Cuphead elsewhere.
