Right, the whole shi thing. But, what would the Japanese call the system? The Playstationu Fouru?

True, PSF sounds bad. Maybe PS Four is better?
There are ton of games for example that are officially something something fouru or tsuri or whatever so I can totally see them going for it. Don't they call PS3 ''PS tsuri'' anyway? I'm not an expert :lol.

And yeah if it is Playstation Four I'll prefer the short version to be PS Four if they really don't want to go with PS4.

Found something in the source code of the german PS site:

http://de.playstation.com/
Code:
<div class="psf" style="left: 35px; margin-left: 10px;">
    <img src="/media/114284/Spotlight_logo_platinum.png" alt="" class="ctaLogo"/>
	<a href="/meeting2013/"  onclick="swfDcsMultiTrackInternal('/meeting2013/', 'WT.ac','PC-de_DE--spotlight-1-M580301-L0-Bleib immer auf dem Laufenden');"><strong class=""><span>Bleib immer auf dem Laufenden</span></strong></a>
    <p class="tagline"></p>
</div>

This code snippet represents the spotlight carousel .
the div class of this is named "psf" which could mean they will really name it Playstation Four.

To prove this, the next item in the carousel has "ps3" as div class and contains Trion:Defiance (a PS3 game) - so it's an obvious naming convention imho.
tl;dr:

I Hope you get my point :p
Cross-posting from the other thread as well..

Nope.. PlayStation Plus carousel item also has this class applied to it. And was there before PSMeeting.

<div class="psf" style="left: 35px; margin-left: 10px;">

<img src="/media/tvW206px/PSPlusYourInstantGameCollection_LogoWhite_DE.png" alt="" class="ctaLogo">
<a href="/playstationplus/" onclick="swfDcsMultiTrackInternal('/playstationplus/', 'WT.ac','PC-de_DE--spotlight-3-M577586-L285089-Spiel mehr, zahl weniger');"><strong class=""><span>Spiel mehr, zahl weniger</span></strong></a>

<p class="tagline">Sichere dir mehr als 30 % Rabatt auf ein 90-tägiges PlayStation Plus-Abonnement und hol dir Sleeping Dogs ohne zusätzliche Kosten.</p>
</div>

And like I said in the other thread, most like a class applied to general PlayStation Family items, and not specific hardware.

But the last item which is also about Playstation Plus has "PS3" again:
Code:
                    <div class="ps3" style="left: 35px; margin-left: 10px;">

                            <img src="/media/114284/Spotlight_logo_platinum.png" alt="" class="ctaLogo"/>

							<a href="http://www.facebook.com/PlayStation.DE/app_251566104962918"  target="_blank" onclick="swfDcsMultiTrackExternal('www.facebook.com', '/PlayStation.DE/app_251566104962918', '','WT.ac','PC-de_DE--spotlight-6-M531974-L0-90 Tage PlayStation Plus gewinnen');"><strong class=""><span>90 Tage PlayStation Plus gewinnen</span></strong></a>

                        <p class="tagline">Besuche uns auf Facebook und gewinne einen Code für 90 Tage pures Spielvergnügen mit PlayStation Plus</p>
                    </div>

Do we even know if there is precedent for the whole "it won't be called PS4 because of superstitions" ? As far as I know, there are tons of games in Japan that have the label "4" on them. Biohazard 4, Final Fantasy 4, Dragon Quest 4, Super Mario Bros. 4 (Super Mario World) and I'm overlooking plenty.

Was there, at some point in the past, a case of a company purposely changing one of its product's name because of this matter ? Because so far, I haven't seen any actual evidence supporting this theory.

Unfortunately I can't without a login for the page :(
I looked around on SCEA's press page in hope to find something written about the PlayStation Meeting 2013, but there's nada. Not that I expected anything, they were very lazy with PlayStation Meeting 2011.

Anyway, what happened really was that an e-mail was sent to designated media, and then the recipients have to log in to this site to get their participation validated. Goes without saying really.

Apart from .venue, the source files tell very little at the moment. There's this though:

Code:
$(document).ready( function(){
	$('#frmLogin').submit(function() {
		var RegistrationStatus = 'start';
		if(RegistrationStatus == 'closed'){
			alert('Registration is now closed!!');
			return false;
		}else{
			return true;
		}
	});
});

I think it's a good idea for the thread to get back on topic for a little while, as the gifs aren't going to be appreciated as much.

I came to think of when the PS Vita logo was first revealed, through this thread. As you probably remember, Sony called its new handheld NGP at the PlayStation Meeting 2011. The trademark was filed on the 3rd of June, only four days prior to the start of E3 that year.

I wonder if they will follow the same pattern for Orbis. If not, we could be seeing logos pop up on OHIM (or USPTO) as soon as next week.

In Japanese there are two ways of saying four. Shi and something else. Shi apparently sounds like the world for death. It doesn't MEAN death, it just sounds like the word for death. There is no superstition, there is no unlucky 4 like the West has unlucky 13. It's literally just that. Children still have 4th birthdays and do not die in agony, in 2014 Japan won't suddenly jumpt to 2015.

Now this could be a problem, if in Japan they hadn't ALWAYS used the English pronunciation for the Playstation consoles.

Plenty of games have 4 in the title and nobody gives a fuck about it. Quite why anything thinks it's suddenly going to be an issue now baffles me.

It will be called the Playstation 4.

It wouldn't be a problem even with Japanese pronunciations. The entire mess is akin to hand-wringing that the US might not get FF13 done by people who really want to believe they're experts on Japanese culture.
