I may have a working solution.
I'm using this:

and taking up 2 HDMI ports on my TV.

As it's not a switch, just a splitter, I have to power off the breakout box, otherwise PS4 defaults to lower HDMI standard. But the power switch is right near where I store the headset & other cables so that's not a problem for me.

HDR is now working on my TV which is damn nice. Haven't had a chance to use PSVR in last few days to check that there's no issues there.

You need to actually check PSVR will turn on properly. In my experience it doesn't play nice with splitters between the PS4 and breakout box. It'll turn on (as in you'll hear the beep) but it'll think you haven't connected it up properly and refuses to work until it has a direct connection.

I have this exact same splitter and when I tried to use it with my psvr the PS4 couldn't recognize that the psvr was connected and turned on. I kept getting the screen telling me to hook up my hdmi cables.
 
I know right. For something that works so well in vr, you'd think the market would be saturated with them by now but there's hardly been anything.

Because the VR market is still tiny and it seems that many VR owner lose interest shortly after they experienced it first. Perhaps mainly because of sickness, average games, VR gets old. There seems to be not much money in VR games.
 
So RE7...the part near the beginning where you
walk through the water under the house
looked and felt so amazing in VR. One of those big moments for me when I am just utterly impressed with the technology. Not to mention the
jump scare when the decaying corpse shows up!

A recent article on gamesindustry.biz that will back up the fact he's talking nonsense and there is plenty of money to be made in VR.

Not to mention the number of Resident Evil 7 VR players now stands at 88,479 players and counting. If that was launched as a VR exclusive with a $60 price tag, it would have racked up over $5.3m in revenue in under a week.

Remember the "Golem" controversy "Playing VR in increments" Some of the game can be played in VR and after about 20 minutes(example) or so we force you to Play on a regular TV. People were outraged, knowing what we know now about fatigue and motion sickness, if your position was forced breaks is stupid, has that changed to an educated understanding?

I think it would be the worse idea for VR ever! I've played VR games for an hour easy and was only forced to stop because I had to go to sleep in order to go to work the next day.

The worst thing about it, is that it helps perpetuate the idea that VR games should be shorter more simplistic experiences. Designing games around the idea that the hardware itself shouldn't be used for more than 20 minutes at a time is rather limiting.

I never played Psychonauts, but I've been curious about this game since seeing the trailer(s). If it launches at the right price, I may bite.

I'm still kind of holding a grudge against Double Fine for the bait and switch with Brutal Legend (advertised heavy metal God of War, got shitty RTS combat instead).

Just bought the VR, very strange when setting up as the only way i can get my TV screen display in the VR view is by looking at the floor?
 
I have the opportunity to buy the $499 bundle for $675( to expand on that, I live outside the US and the cost of importing it here would incur at least another $100 in duties). So that's not 'that much' of a premium, but I'm just afraid that next month I may be able to grab one off the shelf IF Sony is restocking them at that time. Should I bite or not? Decisions, decisions....plus I'm not sure if I really want the pay extra for the VR Worlds and I have a set of Move controllers from PS3 days...

Right ive done it, bought one for RE7, bought eagle flight as well (hope it isnt shit).

Any other good ones? I didnt buy the move controllers, that will have to be a birthday present or something later down the line.

It's no fad man...the hype is real. Especially with a Pro. Like I said I though I hope they introduce system level stick aim remapping to head tracking aim in cinema mode so gamers can take advantage of higher precision aim without forcing developers to make fully immersive VR games and sacrfice camera shake all kinds of other 2D tricks that gaming on monitors more immersive.

You should play it. It's not terribly long and it's quality, a great, great game. There are ports of the original on Steam and PSN.

I'd recommend the Steam version, because supposedly the PS4 version is a port of the PS2 version, which had some technical issues.
 
Guys how good is the cinema mode? Like how well does it replicate the experience of playing the game/movie on a giant screen?

It's awesome. I love watching movies on it because it really does feel like a big screen. Star Wars in particular is a lot of fun in cinema mode.

I wish they'd give us some environment options, though. Right now it's just a floating screen but I'd like a theater option, or outer space etc.

I played through the entirety of Uncharted 4 in cinema mode, so I guess that means it was good enough for me for at least that game. However, I thought the screen was too big for playing Dishonored 2. It was kind of nauseating, which I attribute to the fact that it's first person vs. third person in U4.

Cinema mode is... nice. I mean, it's cool that it's there. But outside of the initial wow factor, it's not enough to offset the (fairly minor, but nonetheless present) inconvenience of wearing a headset while you play.

I kinda wish it allowed you to adjust the size of screen and your distance from it a little more freely. Both the larger options feel like a good approximation of playing on a large screen, but the bigger one means you won't be able to see everything without looking around a lot. The smaller one locks you into a clean line of sight on the screen, which to me ends up feeling weirder.
 
What are the current must-plays for PSVR?
Rez Infinite & Thumper are for everyone.

If you're into Batman, Arkham VR is a lot of fun. If you're into horror, Until Dawn Rush of Blood and Resident Evil 7 are both amazing. If you like Star Wars, the X-Wing mission in Battlefront is pretty cool. If you like indie arthouse games, check out Bound.

Also check out every game on the demo disk and see what you like. Standouts are Ocean Descent (VR Worlds), Battlezone, RIGS, Eve: Valkyrie. Also don't miss the "Robot Rescue" minigame in Playroom VR, which is free.

Yeah I'd imagine it lends itself better in certain genres than others.

What are the current must-plays for PSVR?

I'd add Headmaster to Lamonster's list. Very low likelyhood of nausea, it's very funny, has plenty of unique content, and has gameplay that really only works in VR. Only problem is it's a hard game, I'm stuck a few levels past the second exam and haven't gotten any further for a while. It's got a demo on the demo disc, so it's easy to try.

They can still watch on the "social screen." And you don't need headphones for cinema mode because there's no 3D sound.

I still have a sealed copy for the original Xbox. I just never got around to playing it and later sold the console.

Not sure where you are, but more and more places seem to be getting restocks. I'd wait a bit and enjoy the extra $200 you're saving.

Funny, I had the exact same thing. My OG Xbox died (Wouldn't power on) and I ended up playing the Steam version many years later with an Xbox 360 controller.

Just talking about this is making me want to play it again.

You can't tell anything from a 2D video. Social screen feeds of people playing Resident Evil VII in VR make people sick easier than playing the game in VR.

I can certainly tell what actions could trigger motion sickness in a VR game. Also Id need receipts from your second comment.

I'm trying not to man, but damn it if I can't stay out of the freaking RE7 PSVR thread! As I was saying though, because of where I live I'd need to pay import duty at the cost of 25% of the commodity value. So I'll end up paying $600+ regardless....

I'll be in the States in 3 weeks( or I may change my ticket to Canada, with what's going on with the US border I don't know what to do right now....not to change topics to that). Which places are getting in a good amount of restock?

I didn't like Star Wars Vr Mission that much tbh. It was blurry even on the pro and felt it was padded for follow sequences.

RE-7 on the other hand is very impressive and fun in VR. I dread every time before I start it but once I do I don't want to stop. Playing on all comfort settings, does slow walking effect the game? i.e do enemies remain the same speed if I'm slowly walking?
