Duke 3D. Insider contacts ?
Thanks!
Duke 3D. Insider contacts ?
I'm buying it to finance games and an extra controller for the PS4. Really don't have the time for 2 consoles otherwise I'd keep the One as well.
This generation, most games were 1080p on Xbox 360, but 720p on Playstation 3. It's really not a big deal.
Do we even need more confirmation at this point? The only question remaining is what resolution the PS4 version will run at.
Boom ....
Thread is about to turn on its 3rd engine to full
Blast ahead
But the majority of PS2 owners got one after 2001.
(Again,) it was all about appealing exclusive content & features.
Rumors said 1080pI'm dying to know if PS4 is 1080p. Someone should attempt to do a pixel count of the PS4 footage IGN just put up. Although it may be extremely hard, considering the use of post-process AA and the seemingly low-quality, compressed nature of the video.

You clearly live where the sun don't shine..
The GCN and Xbox had exclusive content and the latter had an integrated network infrastructure as a feature. They had strategic price drops. They also got a lot of multiplatform content. It didn't ultimately change their fortunes. Because by the time they launched there were something like 20-25M PS2s sold, and after a year on the market they had a paltry 10 or so million a piece to the 50M the PS2 commanded, and network effects can essentially self-perpetuate.No I'm not ignoring that. I never said that that fact wasn't true but also (as has been shown many times), news/buzz on the internet gets out very fast and certain views can change quickly.
Like I said (many times now), it's going to boil down to content. If a system has something that the other doesn't in terms of buzz worthy content then it will obviously spread over the internet.
The majority of people who will be next gen console owners won't get a next gen console until 2015 at the earliest. A lot of things can change in that period -- price drops, highly praised exclusive content, new systems features via updates, etc. All of that will also obviously play a role in what people say about the systems, both online and in person with other people.
The ps4 camera being now solidly in the top 50 over the past few days is the real kick in the nuts.
George Broussard of 3DRealms? AKA the creators of Duke Nukem? AKA the babymakers of the biggest vaporware ever (Duke Nukem Forever) which when it finally came out, wasn't as huge of a stinking turd as Daikatana?
Trust me, this dude knows shitty circumstances, and that's what the Xbox One is in right now.
I find it hard to believe that the Xbone can't handle 1080p. If it's true then MS really dropped the ball on this one.
I figure you don't know what sharpness means, so I'll explain it how I see it. Sharpness is clarity of contrast. At a native resolution, a black and white checkerboard would be perfectly sharp. Double it or halve it, unfiltered, and that clarity of contrast remains.
Attempt to pass it through a Lanczos filter to get an imperfectly scaled ratio and the filter will attempt to interpolate the difference between the white and black as a grey tone, where there was no grey in the original image at all. This is the vaseline effect that softens the image.
Fortunately the fact that he made Duke Nukem 3D totally makes up for both Duke Nukem Forever, and Daikatana.
Attempting to sell me the idea using a checkerboard patter is 100% fail. Please try it with something that requires loss of information or interpolated information to scale, such as a circle, or any irregular polygon, then we'll talk.

The PS2 provides a poor analogy. In essence, part of the reason people bought the PS2 was because everyone they knew bought the PS2. Video game systems are inherently more valuable for a given owner, when more people own them.
Neither system has that advantage to begin with this time (which makes this cycle more interesting to watch unfold), and no singular piece of content is likely to provide such advantage. It's why launching* strong will be advantageous, (and why people who talk about launches not mattering should reconsider the situation). It's why having early adopters on-board with lots of positive mindshare is important. And it's why the $500 price tag is probably the biggest mistake Microsoft is making.
The people who buy a next gen console in 2015 will in all likelihood buy whichever one is the market leader.

*And I don't just mean the first month or Holiday; sustaining momentum will be important.

You're right. But I don't think the overwhelming behavior exhibited in this thread can be described as 'brand loyalty', more like 'validation of choice' - once some people made a decision to buy one of the consoles they have to tell everybody how much better it is than everything else.I think your misunderstanding my point though I have no loyalty to Metal Gear that impacts my enjoyment of Splinter Cell or competing games of the stealth genre. Being excited about something and exhibiting brand loyalty are two very different things.

I had forgotten about John Romero...Nothing makes up for Daikatana. John Romero made himself our bitch.
More like impossible. We either need a full-res, unmodified screenshot of the PS4 version, or for the game to actually come out.I'm dying to know if PS4 is 1080p. Got complacent and a bit cocky with the success of the 360. I remember back in the day when the 360 got almost everything right, they were shouting it form the rooftops and what's happening now was the reverse with Sony getting it from all sides.
I honestly expected the Xbox One to blow away the PS4 on specs as MS has deeper pockets and with the ease of development on the 360, it was a no brainer. I honestly did not expect the opposite to happen. Not that the PS4 will make the Xbox One look like N64 but the difference on paper is hard to ignore.
I guess its harder to stay number 1 than chasing it in.
The PS4 IGN footage does not look like 1080p to me TBH. Could very well just be the horrible player/compression though.

by CBOAT... who is right 95% of the time.Has this rumor been confirmed yet? I'm still waiting to see if I should cancel my xbox one order...but dear lord, 119??? Isn't this a gaf record?
The biggest loss is in texture detail, actually. ANY texture detail that is as fine as the native pixel resolution will be lost, and will appear 'smeary'. Just stick your PC on a resolution that is not native to the panel and enjoy the significant leap in ugliness.
1080p on the Xbox 360 is like a fable or fairy tale.
At which point digital foundry will probably do it for you! You're right there's no way you can pixel count from the ign video.Mopre like impossible. We either need a full-res, unmanipulated screenshot of the PS4 version, or for the game to actually come out.

Trying to discern a 1080p image from a 720p video with a shitty compression mechanism? Quality post.
No, it is actually a metric. And in the context of deciding which system CoD sells better on and is tops on, it's about the only reliable one.
Not... whatever this is:
I think a generation of 720p/1080p multi platform splits would be absolutely catastrophic for ms. And yes I think people will tell and care.
Don't know if that's the takeaway here though.
Dunno which video you're talking about but I have the option to choose 1080p in the IGN player.
