Attack of the Fanboy - J.R. Waugh - 4 / 5

Tevi has a great layout of biomes and a deep customization system that quickly allows you to customize and prioritize playstyles. Its boss fights are compelling, varied, and quick-paced with great gimmicks, and while its story and worldbuilding are forgettable, its character interactions help outweigh the faults. With an amusing love for waffles, a sharp wit, and a curious mind, Tevi has the makings of a truly memorable game protagonist fans will want to keep around.

TEVI is a delightful, 2D pixel adventure that makes exploring and boss fights a challenge and fun at the same time. While the dialogue goes on too long, it’s a game you want to add to your gaming library.

Despite appearing to be just another metroidvania among many, TEVI stands out for a combat system full of possibilities and an engaging story full of captivating characters and memorable bosses. Some problems related to the lack of variety in certain regions, occasionally frustrating moments due to the difficulty that affect some of the experience and a slight drag in the running time in the final stretch of the game are notable problems, but they certainly do not erase the shine of the adventure.

The fast-paced bullet-hell boss battles in TEVI are satisfying, but its Metroidvania design is just okay. The levels are too similar and have some problems that detract from the fun. Despite these flaws, the overall quality of the game is still impressive.

TEVI is an enjoyable game with a great art style, fun dialogue, and a combat system that can somehow be both simple and complex at the same time. The Metroidvania-style gameplay isn't quite as strict as others in the genre and most of the bullet hell scenarios take place during the boss fights which require a good amount of patience and strategy. If you enjoy the demo, I definitely recommend checking out the full version.

TEVI is a solid action-adventure platformer bullet hell button bashing metroidvania-like game. It features a tonne of customization via the Sigil system and a lot of fast-paced action. The game isn’t as open as it should be and is rather linear instead but that doesn’t mean that it’s bad. It’s definitely worth picking up and playing through and chances are that you’ll have a blast in doing so. CreSpirit have done a great job here and I hope to see them developing even better titles in the future!

Tevi scores the goals where it counts: the "action" part of the "search action" genre it wears along with its bunny ears and Maple Story-like coating.

Still, due to the quality of its elements, large amount of content and great adaptation, TEVI easily joins the list of good games of its genre on Switch, offering a lot of action and fun for bullet hell and anime-themed enthusiasts. If you thought 2023 couldn't get any better, CreSpirit is here to prove otherwise with an instant cult classic. We, the players, benefit from this.

undefined.Though I have minor gripes, mostly concerning the early hours of my experience, such as some environments feeling basic or less enjoyable and the initial slower pace affecting combat, persisting through reveals the absolute gem that is Tevi. I had such a good time that I'm eager for a second playthrough, despite its lengthy runtime, taking dozens of hours to complete. After experiencing a metroidvania like Tevi, I wouldn't rabbit any other way.

Tevi’s greatest strength is in how much fun the game is to play with its actual mechanics. At its best, it’s an absolute masterclass in 2D action game design. Combat and movement flow together seamlessly to produce a fun and acrobatic gameplay experience that stands with the best of ‘em, regardless of whether we’re talking 2D or 3D, indie or AAA. The developers and publisher poured a lot of love and care into Tevi’s design and production. Unfortunately, it’s bogged down by a weak narrative that felt like more was put into its style than making something of genuine substance, resulting in some jagged and stunted edges. The incompleteness of its latter half led me to feel at least a touch of regret over what could have been.

Still, the areas in which Tevi makes good on its potential are more than worth your playtime if you’re looking for enjoyable action-heavy 2D games, Metroidvanias, or even bullet hells.

The time I spent playing Tevi gave me an excuse to break out the fightstick. It’s a great game that I hope CreSpirit is hopefully resting before making another great game like this again. It’s another game that is a great way for me to be distracted while waiting for Silksong. With how well Tevi is, I recommend others to try Rabbi-Rabbi as well.

Nonetheless, TEVI is not only a super fun and well-constructed addition to the metroidvania niche, I think it’s also definitely helping to usher forth the modernized 2D side-scroller renaissance that’s breathing new life into the most classic format of gaming. Development teams across the globe are contributing more and more to it, and I’m so glad to see that CreSpirit is continuing to do what they do best, and having little Tevi lead the way.

Tevi didn’t disguise what it was: a 2D exploration game with bullet hell elements. I knew this going in, and I was ready for it. The parts that aren’t boss battles showed me a fun world with some great characters, decent crafting and a light meal of a metroidvania: pleasant to map out but it won’t fill you up.

One that is fun to play for just about all levels of gaming ability, but it’s also a replayable one and has plenty of content you can run through, backgrounded by beautiful visuals and fun music. I didn't even know this game existed til I saw a preview being played on Gamestop's store tv. It was like "get it now" and of course, the stores don't have any in stock. Looks really cool, and cute. The visuals look slick, and fast paced. I love games with this anime aesthetic, but it's also kind of a curse, because you have outlets not fucking talking about it! This game looks awesome, but there was not a damn hint anywhere that it was even a thing, let alone a physical copy.

Yeah, I've updated the OP with more reviews since it was a tad outdated.

Noisy Pixel is my go-to reviewing outlet nowadays (especially for JRPGs, VNs and indies), so them giving it a 10 out of 10 is music to my ears.
