The 2nd Democratic National Primary Debate

Wrong. Every poll out so far has Bernie beating the repubs at a higher margin than hillary.

Really? Every poll.

PPP Poll

Clinton has modest leads over the rest of the Republican field. She's up 44/43 on Carly Fiorina, 46/44 on both Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee, 45/40 on Jeb Bush, and 43/36 on John Kasich. Clinton's doing markedly better in these general election match ups in Iowa than when we last polled the state in mid-September. Then she trailed these 8 Republicans by an average of 3.5 points and now she leads them by an average of 1.5 points. Her improved poll numbers have been most pronounced when it comes to the Democratic primary field but she's doing about 5 points better for the general election too.

Bernie Sanders does an average of 4 points worse than Clinton in general election matches in Iowa. He ties Bush at 41 but trails Cruz 43/42, Trump 44/43, Rubio 45/38, and Carson 47/37.

The last Marist poll had Hillary beating Trump by 15, Sanders was beating him by 12. It had Hillary beating Rubio by 5. Sanders was beating him by 3.

There are also several state polls that show Hillary doing better (or worse, depending) against Sanders. Of course, GE polls this far out are worth slightly less than the energy used to display them on screen.

If I have to vote for Hillary it's gonna feel like I am voting Republican without the crazy social stuff

It will still feel bad

Go Bernie

A lot of people like Bernie but are going with Hillary because they feel he has no chance.

The thing is, if everyone that felt that way actually went with Bernie then he would have a chance.

The point I was trying to make was that either all polls are fair game or none are. None of this pick and choose so long as it favors your* candidate

*your in the general sense not this poster specifically.

You can take that approach if you wish, but I'm going to use what I know from past elections and ignore GE polls for an election a year out. Those polls only get accurate once each party has nominated a candidate.

The Internet is not representative of the primary voting population. There's not actually that many people that hold that sentiment.

I hope Bernie goes out tonight and shows strong differences between him and Hillary tonight, especially ones based on the attacks yesterday.

Holy crap, I completely forgot that they were having another debate today...just goes to show how little Americans care about seeing actual discussion and an exchange of ideas, and would rather see a bunch of chimps flinging shit at one another to be president.

I enjoy the Republicans debates more, it's a trainwreck you can't look away from.

Here we go~

The "Hillary is a Republican" stuff is hilarious. You're talking about one of the most liberal Senators during her time in Congress and someone who is, in several ways, left of the current President. You're like the far left version of Freepers at this point, freely rejecting reality.

You'll be in for a surprise.

So far, on foreign policy at least, there's little to no difference between the two. Of course, Bernie doesn't like to talk about foreign policy, so who knows what he'll come out and say. Sanders supports Obama's Afghanistan plan, as does Hillary. He opposes the no-fly-zone over Syria, but that's one of the few differences I can think of.

Vox actually has an article about the viewership numbers based on the days chosen.

I'll let you bros decide whether his methodology is correct or not.

Saturday night is like the worst possible debate schedule for maximum viewership. Their last MSNBC thing was a Friday night too with lousy numbers. Why do they keep doing this low-profile shit?

Why? She was the eleventh most liberal senator during her tenure.

I'm being overly dramatic and want Bernie to win.

I acknowledge that she is actually more liberal than Obama on certain issues and would still show up at the polls if she wins the primary

Why is this on a Saturday? The DNC is coming off pretty retarded all around with their debate planning for this election cycle. DWS needs to step the fuck down.

And why doesn't anyone like O'Malley? The "who?" jokes are getting quite old by now. If you actually listen to him speak, he is absolutely a serious and worthy contender for the Democratic nomination.

Also why are all the dem OTs so shitty this year

It wouldn't be so much of a problem, if we didn't have an establishment media, where the likes of CNN spin the debate(s) in their candidates favor, such as only providing edited video clips, that show Hillary in a good light.

However, at the grassroots level, it's not so much of an issue, as we'll pass on how Bernie actually did, and for the record, he did great at the first debate (I re-watched the entire debate and I cannot see how you could score it any differently), against "Cut it out" Hillary.

I agree. O'Malley has the right stuff. It's just a shame he's not at these debates.

Yes, because CNN invented the concept of breaking down two hour debates into smaller sound bites simply to attack Bernie Sanders. It's never been done before in the history of American politics.

And, again, you couldn't score it differently because of confirmation bias. Every single objective measure we have showed that Hillary out performed Bernie in the debates. His weakest exchange, outside of guns, was on foreign policy. Tonight should be interesting for him.

OP is great. I laughed. Not sure why there are so many whiners in this thread. It's almost like they feel entitled to an elaborate thread. Typical liberals.

It turns out that Bernie's politics match mine almost 1:1, but let's not kid ourselves: he is not electable. There's just no way. And even if he was, does anyone honestly expect him to overcome Republican obstructionism better than Obama? GAF pls. Get Hillary in there so she can nominate Supreme Court justices who will limit future Republican fuckery for a good long time. This is important, people. This is how we keep the country from veering into the ninth circle of Crazyville.

Nah, I'm going to vote for the candidate that represents my views.

The Republicans are split between electing Donald Trump and Ben Carson. Just go for it. I hear the Supreme Court argument every election.

He's not electable because why again? Have you seen the polls or are you just simply going on a hunch?

That only makes sense if you sincerely believe your candidate can win the election. Good luck electing a self-identified socialist who appeals primarily to young white male voters!

Let me be clear: ideally he'd be our next president. But I seriously doubt he'll win the nomination, much less the presidency.

I believe Bernie is less of a Hawk, but he will go after people that attack the country, that's why he is more for the Afghanistan war, and I think most of the country is too.

I just would like for Bernie to get a huge bump from tonight, because the less of a fight Hillary has, the worst it will be when it comes to the general election.

Socialism is simply not popular in this country. He keeps saying he's going to explain it...he hasn't. (And even if he did, he's not going to change generations of beliefs about the issue in the next eleven months). He has no support within the Democratic party. He has huge minority problems, and he's showed no ability to move that needle whatsoever. He will be heavily (heavily) out spent in every single state. I'm not talking about ads, I'm talking about the important things like field offices, ground game, voter rolls, demographic information, etc. That's how you win elections. That stuff is not free. He has higher unfavorable ratings among Democrats than Hillary does among Democrats. He hasn't broken 35% in nationwide polls of Democratic primary voters.

The only reason the GOP was obstructionist was because Obama is black.

Also why does bernie have no chance against them but some how Hillary sails through? The amount of logical hoops Hillary supporters jump through is astonishing. It was the same way back in 07/08

And stop saying SCOTUS nominations. There is no evidence whatsoever that any of them are stepping down in the next 4 years.

I sincerely believe that he can win both the primary and general elections, which is why I've been spending the majority of my free time since July working with the grassroots network of volunteers in my state fighting for Bernie, and why I will continue to do so.

I wish that you would consider doing the same.

I agree with this.

With that said, Bernie supporters, please understand that Hillary actually represents some people's views. Being a Hillary supporter doesn't mean a person is uninformed or uneducated. I see that sentiment frequently and it's very condescending and frankly doesn't get us anywhere.

If you don't think the GOP would be as obstructionist when faced with someone who self-identifies as a socialist as opposed to a man who has to repeatedly deny that he is one, well....there is a bridge in Brooklyn that I would like you to take a look at, make you a good deal.

Huh? Like, if you used the word "oligarch," there wouldn't be any oddities.

But Republican? She's regressive?

It's always something. I'm sure they'd give a free pass to a socialist whose ideas sound way more radical than Obummer's.

Hillary's a great campaigner, a seasoned debater, and is more popular with older demographics and ethnic minorities. She's a far more marketable and palatable candidate than Bernie. And she'd get more shit done in the White House, because she knows how negotiate and compromise. Those years as Secretary of State would serve her well.

There's no guarantee. It's a possibility we'd better make damn sure we take into account this election cycle.
