I have to disagree here…I think for someone who just died, resurrected in god heaven, and is mourning the loss of her husband and son her facial look/expression is on point.

I genuinely think they did a great job on her model…but to each their own!

She also looks great with a huge smile on her face at a press event for a tv show she did where she is paid to look happy and thrilled to be there.

I think a big part of it is face scans map every single point on a person's face.

There's no hiding a person's flaws, and that's just what she looks like.

Probably not as jarring for male models, as they wear a lot less makeup to hide whatever.

I dont understand how someone can look at the real life actress and think they did a good job with the character model

A think part of it is the model/texture is too detailed.

Like the fine lines in her face were exaggerated a bit. Which could either be intentional, or what I think is more likely, a side effect of the scanning technology.

Add to that the lack of makeup and lighting and the photo comparison likely being older, we end up with two points of comparison with several layers of abstraction between them.

Yeah, but its a video game in a fantasy setting. You dont have to be realistic, especially not when you are only realistic when it comes to how you "design women". Anything else doesnt seem to get this special treatment.

It's not an easy thing to do. I can't think of any.
Bringing real-world face models into a real-time render almost inevitably makes them look worse. Skin, eyes, hair and mouths tend to look worse and the imperfect lighting makes a huge difference.
I don't buy the idea that there's a deliberate conspiracy to downgrade beauty.

It's Western developer's idiotic way of saying "We're such mature adults. Look at how masculine and ugly strong and brave are female leads are.
